if you use a base w/o vertical patterns, distortion will be minimized. The white one you have been using will work well

Well, how many of them fly? What happens is that as the bases get wider, they're more pixelly and the image looks worse. If some of them are flying, that would greatly reduce the distortion because I don't have to extend the base under their feet.
