Hmm I don't know. I have no personal experience using hitmonlee and I referred merely from the base stats.
But perhaps, if you were to try using something like weavile, you'd discover the meaning of AWESOME =P

In case you aren't too sure, here's something for a base reference:
Hitmonlee
Weavile

Just scroll down to the stats and compare.
Weavile could hit a lot more pokemon faster than Hitmonlee does.
