I knew this episode was going to be bad. As expected we have:
- Goh stealing the spotlight (again)
- Absol being a rehash of Suicune's capture
- Ash's team being treated as nonexistent and acting as if it's just Pikachu
- Ash being written poorly (again)
Such a big loss, 51 is way too young to die. Other noteworthy characters she voiced include Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece), Alex (Totally Spies!), Mrs. Anderson (Inside Out) and Emily (Thomas & Friends). Whoever replaces her as Jessie will have massive shoes to fill.
This I can definitely understand now, but I feel base stage has also been a factor behind which starter players tend to choose. I recall Rowlet's design alone is the reason why Decidueye was the most chosen Gen 7 starter, the first time ever I recall a Grass-type took top honour in official...
The latest preview trailer for Journeys does look promising, but given how poorly returning characters have been handled, I don't have much hope for the Gary and Iris episodes. I just hope the writers will allow Ash to use his old Pokemon as reserves, instead of just limiting him to the new team.
I often forgot about Amity Square. I do wonder how they'll implement it in this version, and if we will have some Pokemon added to the game's data that will be transfer-only, kinda like how the Kanto and Alola starters and some legendaries were originally in Sw/Sh before HOME released.
At least the sunlight benefits your own Fire-types as well (especially if you chose Litten and likely have Torracat at that point) by boosting their own STAB moves. Sure, not the best options available at that point due to being mostly unevolved with weak defenses, but if you are able to...
Fair enough. I wasn't too sure on Johto because I never really saw that much material that favoured one particular starter but I always leaned towards Typhlosion when it came to which one I speculated was most popular. Blaziken being most favoured for Hoenn was obvious, but I was torn over which...
My biggest issues:
- Johto's huge filler-fest
- Ash reverting back to a noob in BW
- Ambipom's rushed departure, clearly done solely to make way for the underwhelming Cyndaquil
- The Elesa Gym battle
- Ash's Indigo League loss
- Journeys as a whole
- Ash's Torterra never winning any battles...
From what I was able to gather, the most popular starter to least popular for each generation was the following, based on appearances in marketing and fandom opinions, though some generations did not have an outright standout as I found out below:
Gen 1: Charizard > Blastoise > Venusaur...
It's most obviously clear that the BW anime was hated for Ash's personality being completely reset back into a noob, and doing stuff dumb enough like relying entirely on Palpitoad against Elesa with no backup plan. As for SM, it's mainly due to the contentious art style, and the change of format...
