Charizard could have chance to continue on Kalos region. He could be used to market mega evolution thing from 6th generation games being already highly marketable and popular pokemon selling merchanbdize like crazy. Needless to say he was one of few showed to have mega form and out of revealed ones is probably most recognized and iconic.

Remember what i said about type of pokemon character use also greatly defining how much focus and substance his story might have to create on going ploit through course of region? If Misty was in anime nowadays she would probably gain more focus than Iris did for simple fact of her goal and versatility of water type setting predispositions to create chain of events through which she could gradually grow forward. Fact how there isnpot enough dragons to create one, let alone more tournaments focusing on their txpe like they did with Whirl Cup says alot.

You can do many interesting things with one type specialists. Going on special training to become E4 apprentice, entering all kind of events where its required to utilize specific type to full potential, trying to become champion with one type like Wallace did are just few examples out of many ways through which specialists could grow and be active. It only depends on amount of creativity and material character might have behind it in what way things will pan out.

Sure even than they wont get as much focus like Dawn did but honestly they don't need to if their presence can be felt on consistent basis doing actively something which serves as testament to all hard work and effort invested in achieving their dreams.
