It's just so subtly tragic, because there's next to no dialogue between the two leads, and yet we get so attached to them and know who they are based off of wordless communication...I personally find it one of Disney's darker tales, due to that.
I'm pretty sure any company in charge of making entertainment that existed during the early 20th century made choices that they regret now. Disney is just the big one.
Well, I think the issue with something like that--as much as I'd love to see it, and as much as it is necessary--parents of children will get angry, because they don't want their child getting the "wrong idea"...It's stupid, but you know it will happen. Especially the competence bit; it could go fantastically with a good writer, or horribly wrong with a bad one...
