Try cleaning it with cotton swabs (Q-tips) and small amounts of rubbing alcohol. It worked for me when I bought a used copy of Platinum which would sometimes freeze - it still sometimes needs a bit of convincing to get the DS to detect the game pack when you turn it on, but it doesn't freeze...
