The scene back in Hoenn when Ash went off about that Brawly match. It seemed weird because before and after that Ash was pretty nice throughout the whole saga. He was more mature and some what understanding maybe because of being around a beginner and a younger kid, so it seemed out of place.

After looking back and growing up some more, all of them has something the other doesn't. If you are looking for nostalgia, then I guess the first one, if you are looking for new pokemon and better battles, then Johto, if you are looking for experience and a new adventure, then Hoenn seems fine...

Depends on what that character is doing. If everyone else is doing an activity of their own and one isn't, then someone is going to have less screen time on order for the others to get stuff done.

I'm surprised you wasted your time this far. Ash has been here for a while now. As far as Ash is now, his personality meshes well with this more east going animation style. I wouldn't want XY Ash in SM if there is barely anything for him to really be doing.
