Oh mai Arceus...all the shinies I've caught have been with low chains. The highest chain was Horsea at 35. The lowest was Shellder at 6. Since my gf had no luck finding a Shiny Alomomola, I attempted to find one yesterday and found it on chain 14 .w.

It's pretty much been confirmed that you can only get one shiny patch per chain of 40. I know this from personal experience. It's sad to see this mechanic change but given that it's much easier to chain than in 4th gen, it's understandable.

Since the data of the games hasn't been fully decrypted, we won't know exact figures on this. Guidebooks never do this, sadly. I can do some testing since I'm fairly good at chaining.

Route 5 and Azure Bay are good locations to improve your chaining abilites because they have large fields, especially the latter. People that have great experience with chaining can do it just about anywhere. This one guy on Youtube, CRONALDOEE2, is pretty much a legend at it.
