Same I actually checked most of hte gts trades to see if i could find a shiny for a possible trade... The only shinies were either for lv 9 reshirams and zekroms or for somehting like a level 9 Pignite or a Lv 9 Garbordor

I tend to favor Ultra,Quick,Dusk and Luxury. Timer balls can be useful when battling a legendary but I don't usaully use them for normal pokemon unless it's a really long battle.
