I agree, sadly. However imo I think it's because she may be a bit shy towards Ash since she has a crush on him and all... I think once she gets more comfortable she'll start to show that sassy side of her again.

I have to agree with this. Swellow never gave up. It always pushed itself to its hardest. (Even when it was a Tailow and would not give up when it battled with Pikachu - even though it had a disadvantage. It had lots of other memorable battles, for instance the battle against Winona's Swellow...
