ブースタージュピター Manga

Yes... you are reading Japanese. For those who are unable to read it, it says "Buusutaa (ブースター) to (と) Jupitaa (ジュピター)". Translation: Flareon and Jupiter. ;136;

After some hard struggles of trying to make a manga based on my favorite - and original - Pokemon characters, I have perfected some techniques in Paint Shop Pro 8 on how to put together a great manga.

To start things off, here are the front and back covers to my first book (yeah, I'm self-publishing my own work, using my color printer and some special paper I bought on Monday)

Hope they look good:

They look nice. I love everything, especially the Banette. Actually everything looks very nice and neat. I love Flareon's eyes. It really makes him/her look like she's really having fun, and she really likes her owner. You did the same eyes on the Vulpix, which I like. The Haunter really looks friendly, the whole picture looks fun. Bannetes's eyes are exceptionally colored. The Gardevoir is teh lovely. That main character is great! You make subtle, but noticable hints, like the heart necklaces around Gardevoir and Bannete. A few things I'd like to point out:

1)This looks like a LOT of work. Perhaps do something to make this easier on you.
3)The main character's eyes are square. I suggest you make them more rounded, they look akward right now.
3)This looks like what probably took awhile. Vulpix's flame, Bannette's shadow ball, and haunter's too. But I suggest next time you hand draw those effects, otherwise they won't fit the picture, and could ruin it.
4)I suggest you handraw the text, or download a handwritten font. The text just doesn't match. Or if you can find a fitting font, then that's even better.

Overall, you did VERY well! Cheers! We need talented artists like you and not some pokemon sprite mixer. ^^

Thanks, personally I'm satisfied with my work.

As for the font... my own handwriting is crap. I tried using it with Font Creator and it looked horrible. I downloaded any good fonts I could find that would make the manga look authentic. MS Gothic (the Japanese) and Technical (the perfect text for the word balloons!) and various others I could get for free.

Oh, and Banette is using Will-O-Wisp, not Shadow Ball. And the effects weren't too hard at all. I used selection tools and plug-in filters (like Eye Candy and Xenofex). The flames were made with a Smoke preset brush.

One more thing: I won't reveal why Banette and Gardevoir are wearing necklaces until a later story, but I will say this -- Banette is male and Gardevoir is female.

Here are the first two pages of my first book (these were hand drawn with ink and "colored" with digital screentones, btw):

Posting them this way will help prevent moire patterns.

Oh, and in keeping with the tradition of true Japanese manga (although this is written in English), the panels throughout the book are read from right to left. Keep this in mind when I post upcoming work.
