For what I've read, it seems like Japan is counting the special episodes (you know, the Chronicles for Dawn, Iris, Cilan and Clemont) and I think the Mega acts as well.

Oh how exciting!!! I wonder which episodes will be featured. Please don't have it be a mostly Kanto only episode event. Kanto may have started it but the other regions and characters beside Ash has carried it along the way.
