10th anniversary? Maybe not...

I believe that the ACTUAL release date is being celebrated. The games do say 1995, but that was probably the date they finished the final version. It then took about 2 months for testing and production, so it was released in early 1996...

that was japan though. for america, it is probably 10.
The 10th anniversary of the American release of Pokémon won't be until September/October 2008...

Well, Red & Green were released together in Japan on February 27th, 1996...

Then Blue was released sometime later.

When Red & Blue came to the US - Red was actually a copy of the Japanese Blue and then ofcourse Blue version.

So the US Red & Blue are different from the Japanese Red & Green.

Almost correct.

The Red version released in America is the same as the Red version released in Japan (except for a difference which will be covered in a second).

The Blue version released in America is the Green version that was released in Japan.

For some odd reason, with R/B, Nintendo of America ripped the graphics from the original Blue and put them in place of the original R/G graphics.

In a nutshell, American Blue is actually Japanese Green, whereas American Red is also Japanese Red, both with their graphics updated to those seen in Japanese Blue.

Not an odd reason. Have you SEEN the sprites from Red and Green? They were hideous. o_O; They also used Blue's layout for the Unknown Dungeon.

Nope. I wasn't aware, I simply thought they didn't have any reason for it. :x
