You're My Man Of War
Plot

Hello all!! It is 1942, and students from all walks of life are getting ready to walk through Kings Cross to platform 9 ¾, where they will board the Hogwarts Express, destined to arrive at the famed Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Familiar faces to the school will find themselves in the Great Hall, split into the four houses of Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Newcomers will be put through the sorting ceremony in time, joining their house in turn, finding themselves amongst new acquaintances & friends who share their virtues. In time they will compete for the house cup. However, this year they will be faced with a more pressing matter.

You are a student at Hogwarts. Though the wizarding world tries to stay away from interfering in muggle issues, they can’t stand back from the atrocities of World War 2. Whilst teachers have managed to avoid being sent to help in the allies’ war efforts for the most part, a lot of the parents of students haven’t been gifted the same luxury. You are safe on the grounds of Hogwarts.

From the war, at least.

You begin boarding The Hogwarts Express, perhaps still in awe at its magnificence, perhaps apathetic due to the events unfolding in the world. Regardless, there’s a sense of foreboding amongst the students, new and old. Whilst a lot of it is for obvious reasons, there’s still the occasional rumour. Some you’ve heard, some you haven’t.

“I’ve heard that Salazar Slytherin himself built a chamber on the castle grounds, to hide an unsightly beasty!”

You sigh, drooping your head. It doesn’t matter who said it. First year. Seventh year. “It remains the same codswallop it had been in your first year,” you think to yourself. You board the train, ready for the year ahead to fly by as the previous years had.

However, you won't be prepared for what is lurking in the castle walls. What is about to be unleashed on Hogwarts. This year, the Chamber of Secrets will be opened. Enemies of the heir, beware.

This will be an RPG set in 1942-1943, the academic year Tom Riddle unleashed the basilisk on Hogwarts, killing “Moaning” Myrtle Warren & getting Rubeus Hagrid expelled. You catch on to the fact that something is wrong, and you, as well as the other students who have caught on, must figure out what’s going on & how to stop it before all hope is gone.

This game will stretch through the entire 1942/43 academic year at Hogwarts. On top of solving the mystery of what’s going on, you will also be going through your day-to-day routine. Things like quidditch matches & Hogsmeade visits will occur, and you are free to try and rebel by doing things like sneaking through the corridors late at night, but be careful! Teachers will be on the lookout, and they won’t be so kind as to just deduct points from your house should you be caught.

Sign Ups

Name - Self explanatory.

Age - Between 12 and 16, so that you're not a new pupil, but you're not an expert yet.

Gender - Male or Female.

Sexuality - It's perfectly fine if you want relationships and the like.

Blood Status - "Mudblood", Half-Blood, or Pure-Blood. This will matter when it comes to dealing with the basilisk.

House - One of four, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Gryffindor, or Ravenclaw. Being sorted should be included in history. It would be nice to have a good spread of characters in each house! Should it come to it, I will close sign-ups for certain houses (e.g. if we end up with 10 Gryffindor sign ups but no Ravenclaws, then Gryffindor students will be rejected past that point).

Wand - Consists of a wood type, core (Phoenix Feather, Unicorn Hair, Dragon Heartstring, etc), length, and flexibility. Obtaining your wand should be included in history.

School Year - Anything from year 2-6. Ties into age (12 for 2nd years, 13 for 3rd etcetc).

Appearance - Standard word minimum at least on your character's looks, including casual wear, how they wear their uniform, and physical appearance.

Personality - Standard word minimum at least on what your character is like to interact with, and any important traits.

History - Standard word minimum at least on how you got to where you are now, including key events in your childhood & time as a student at Hogwarts.

Patronus - The form your Patronus takes and a brief explanation of how difficult it is to conjure. It’s okay for your character to have not used their patronus yet, however we must still know what it is in case it is cast.

Quidditch Position - Should you wish to be a part of the Quidditch team for your house, you are more than welcome to be, as long as the position isn’t taken.

Other - Any other fascinating details regarding your character.

Rules
  1. Standard forum rules apply.

  2. No bunnying. Don’t control other students by any means, unless you are given express permission by the user.

  3. No God-modding. You are still just a student. You will be held accountable for your actions, and you cannot solve everything in the first week of school.

  4. Remember, this is 1940's Britain. Schools were a lot stricter back then, and the world was still extremely unaccepting of non-hetero conforming people. This will lead to characters being declined should there be anything deemed historically inaccurate in the sign-up

  5. Please have fun. Please.

Quidditch

Regarding Quidditch, this will be roleplayed as well. I will be randomly generating the team that wins, as well as the team that gets the snitch, and PMing the seekers of each team to relay that information to them. I will also be telling them how long to let a game go before ending the match in terms of posts, but I promise it won’t be some 40 post epic. As said above, God-modding isn’t allowed, and in Quidditch it is no different. As the keeper, you will not save every shot. As the seeker, you won’t always get the snitch. Etcetc.

On top of all this, remember that there are 14 players on a Quidditch pitch. Not all of them will be characters played by other players. Allow yourself to be knocked about a bit by NPCs. Let them get a few goals as catchers.

People not involved in Quidditch teams don’t have to attend each and every game if they do not wish.

Accepted Players
Fango Pango - Roscoe Gray (Slytherin)
Hydrangea (Pending)

You're My Man Of War
Name: Roscoe Gray
Age: 15
Gender: Male
Sexuality(Optional): Heterosexual
Blood Status: Pureblood
House: Slytherin
Wand: Oak, 14 Inches, Norwegian Ridgeback Heartstring, Firm.
School Year: Fifth year

Appearance:

Roscoe stands at an above average height for his age, at 6’3’’. He has jet black hair that goes to the bottom of his shoulder blades, which he ties up in a neat pony tail. He has green eyes and an average build from his chin up.

Roscoe is fairly muscular. Not ripped, but far from scrawny. His uniform is standard wear for a Slytherin student. Black and green robe, white shirt, green and silver tie, and black trousers. His taste in clothes outside of the formal school uniform mostly rolled cuff jeans, button up shirts, and saddle shoes.

When given the choice of colour, he’s always been partial to green, to match his eyes (as well as his Hogwarts house when he began going there). This means where possible he would get accessories and other things he wanted in that colour. He has a green Homburg Hat which he likes to wear on informal days.

Personality:Roscoe isn’t a nice person. He is very honest about the fact that he feels he is above everyone that's not from the same pure blood, heteronormative background that he had come from. He carries himself with an aura of arrogant confidence and care, as he likes to keep himself looking good whilst in public.

He looks for people’s conversational boundaries and tries to break them, never shying away from calling his peers awful names where he feels it’s appropriate. This has lead to him getting into scuffles with students more than once, where he usually deals more damage than those who come at him, due to his above average size.

He keeps his friendship circle pretty tight, with few actually getting a genuine conversation out of him without him being rude to them. Despite this, he has been known to get around with the women he likes, though he’s rarely seen in an actual relationship. When he has been in a relationship, he’s been known to grow detached as soon as he finds someone who he finds someone he thinks is better than them, yet still manipulates them into believing they have a chance of remaining his partner.

In studies, he’s not exceptional at anything aside from defence against the dark arts, though he is able to get a passing grade in most other classes. Even with his O.W.Ls coming up, he doesn’t intend on studying any more than he has previously. He has his eyes set on making it to the international stage with Quidditch, where he’s Slytherin’s Seeker.

History: Roscoe was born to upper-middle class pureblood parents in London, England. His family lineage was pure as pure could get, dating back to the 15th century on his mother Marie’s side, and dating back to the 13th century on his father Lawrence’s side. He showed his capabilities from the age of 4, with random magical outbursts. This was a few years before his parents had began showing their magical potential, and they were impressed with how early he was showing that he would continue their pure bloodlines.

Roscoe was home-schooled by Marie, meaning he was mostly a pretty sheltered child during his first years of education. When he once asked why he didn’t go to actual school, he got told “muggles aren’t worth the mud on our boots.” These years taught him how to control his magic outbursts when out in public, as well as key things such as how to read and write properly, and proper etiquette. He was taught the social status he held, being pure blood. He was told he was special, and better than a lot of people he’d meet in the future. However, he was lonesome. The friends his parents kept were mostly not parents themselves, which meant he spent a lot of time by himself.

At 11, he got the expected letter from Hogwarts, and the family were ecstatic. He had been told of Hogwarts for years, of every whimsical thing that he could imagine. He was taken to Diagon Alley and had his equipment bought, which while mostly basic, would last him the year. He got all the books he’d need for the first year, as well as his wand, which was an indicator of the power and potential that was seen inside of him. The night before he left for the platform he could hardly sleep. He would finally be around his peers.

When he first arrived, he was taken aback by how awe inspiring the castle looked. It was truly magical. He had had some banter with a few other first years on the way to the school, but nothing too much. After years of conditioning, he couldn’t simply befriend people. He had to know if they were like him. If they were pure.

When the sorting ceremony came to pass, Roscoe was placed in Slytherin. There were no surprises there. 12 centuries worth of lineage and only a handful of people in there weren’t Slytherin. He knew most of the people in Slytherin would be like him, and began socialising, trying to see what other people were like.

His first year went fine. He learned what he needed to, without really going beyond what was asked of him, except in Defence Against the Dark Arts, which he would find an interest in immediately. However, nothing in that first year compared to the second, where he could join the Quidditch team. He joined, having been taught his family’s long heritage of natural Quidditch players. Roscoe was no different, and was an exceptional seeker, helping Slytherin win the Inter-House Quidditch Cup in the 1939-40 academic year. Him joining the Quidditch team lead to him being more outspoken than he had been, and this lead to him being a lot more harsh towards any of his peers that were deemed different in society.

However, the war had started at this point, and Lawrence had been asked to help where he could. Roscoe hasn’t seen him since he left for his second year of Hogwarts. Despite being upset when he found out, he decided he couldn't let his family down, and continued to train to be the best seeker he could be, whilst his studies took a backseat. This didn’t stop him passing though, and still doing better in Defence Against the Dark Arts than some of the others in his class.

His third and fourth year were more of the same for him. He’s remained outspoken through these years, and his studies have remained in a steady line of passing while his Defence classes went well, while he continued to impress at Quidditch. Now in his fifth year, he’s looking at his O.W.Ls with a cocky eagerness, knowing whatever happens, he’ll float on okay.

Patronus: Roscoe’s patronus is a Norwegian Ridgeback. Dragon patronises are rare, but he is able to cast it due to the 1200 combined years of ancestral pride he holds dear to him.
