In no way proof of anything, but I agree that no supernatural occurence will destroy mankind. The only thing that could worry me is if we turn this into some sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts, where in the panic we actually take ourselves down, i.e. everyone selling stocks, looting, riots, general lawlessness because people believe the world is over anyways.

Besides, the theory is based on a cycle that predicts a profound shift in human awareness at the end. Not the apocalypse. History Channel and the like talk about it so much because they know that's what will get them more viewers, thus more money.

We've always had plenty of earthquakes and disasters around the globe. What's different recently is that we have information networks that let everyone know about them, even when they happen in areas that would have been considered remote to people even a hundred years ago. And a good disaster story sells, so news networks are keen to let people know about them whenever they don't have an even bigger story to promote.

The world will only end when the Sun dies or something, but then that's still probably only our own solar system. That's in about five million years, and I'd expect humankind to have ventured into another solar system by then.

Also, the natural disasters are just coincidences.
