3rd Gen revisted - Ruby

Alright, bored out of my head. Wait for B/W is killing me. Can't restart Pearl/Diamond because I have PokéShift stuff on there. I already restarted FireRed, yadayadayada
/Rant.

Haven't played Ruby in forever, mostly because it has a cute little habit of deleting itself anytime I get too far into the game for its liking. Anyways, wasting time and getting my game deleted before the third badge beats studying and working hard in school, amirite?

No egg moves plox. This is supposed to be fun =P. Also, I won't bother with Evs and Natures. It'll just delete itself anyways.

Seems good. But you said that your game likes to delete itself before the third badge? not all of these pokemon, moves and items are availible at that point... sorry to dissapoint

That was just ... "An expression", if you will.

I might make it to the Elite Four. I might not even make it to Dewford.
It's ridiculous =/

If you own the Ruby cartridge, then it's perfectly legal to have a ROM of it, regardless of the state of its memory. I'm pretty sure it is, anyway.

Anyway-
• Swampert @ MiracleWater/Soft Sand
• Torrent
- Surf
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam
- Return//Roar/Waterfall/Dive

Surf and Earthquake cuz STAB is da best. Ice Beam for some coverage.
Coolstuffs
Return/Strength because 3rd Gen movepools are shallower than a kiddie pool.
I disagree with your sentiments there. Without Egg Moves, it is quite shallow, but you play GSC and tell me this is shallow. It's quite manageable. You have Roar on top of Return, plus you need to fit Watefall and Dive onto this team somehow. Thers no need for Strength on multiple pokemon.

• Camerupt @ Charcoal/Soft Sand
• Magma Armor
- FlamethrowerEruption/Overheat
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Strength

Flamethrower is hot. Earthquakes and RockSlides make the world go around. Last move is filler because the movepool is shallow yet again.
Did you forget the immense power of Eruption and Overheat? Overheat is particularly attractive as it is your only special move on Camerupt.

• Breloom @ Shell Bell/Black Belt
• Effect Spore
- Bulk Up
- Brick Break/Sky Uppercut
- Leech Seed
- Rock Smash

Bulk Up boosts my Attack/Defense. Brick Break cuz Breloom loves smashing things. Mega Drain because Giga Drain has low PP and SolarBeem sucks. Strength because of the shallowness of the movepools.
Leech Seed ALWAYS on Breloom. You've no idea how much Normans Slaking hates it. I prefer Shy Uppercut over Brick Break, but its up to you. And you need Rock Smash on the team.

• Gardevoir @ ???
• Synchronize/Trace
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Reflect/Hypnosis

Calm Mind because Gardevoir is cool like that. Psychic hits them where it hurts. Thunderbolt because no-one else is going to learn it. Shadow Ball hits other Psycho types.
Shadow Ball is physical in 3rd Gen. You're much better off with Reflect/Hypnosis. And Trace is quite good, you know.

• Skarmory @ ???
Keen Eye
- Aerial Ace
- Steel Wing
- Fly
- Strength

Aerial Ace and Steel Wing for some STAB. Fly because no-one else wants it. Strength is cool but Swift is shiny. And I like shiny.
Use Strength and Keen Eye, and you render Swift completely obsolete.

• Salamance @ ???
• Intimidate
- Dragon Claw
- Flamethrower
- Return
- Earthquake

Dragon Claw and Crunch because Sally likes getting in cat-fights. Headbutt brings back childhood memories. Earthquake because I have a spare TM, YAY.
Flamethrower gives far superior coverage than Crunch. Return > Headbutt.

Changes in Bold.

Meh, I prefer to play it on the GBA. Much more fun. Computer controls blow. You're talking about emulators, right?

Well, compared to 4/5th Gen, they would be. I've been playing too much D/P and planning for too much B/W, so you'll have to excuse me =P

I'll probably get Dive on him, then replace it with Waterfall after that part of the story is done.

Eruption and Overheat have 5PP, a definite no-no in my books. I'll be sticking with Flamethrower, thank you.

Tch, I didn't get Leech Seed on Breloom! And the move relearner is way past Norman. Dammit... >.>
Anyways, I need a Grass Type attack in there...I'll keep Leech Seed in mind..
I'll be keeping Brick Break. 10 Acc. is worth more than 10 Damage, IMO. Plus the secondary ability of BB comes in real handy.
Sigh, the never-ending stream of useless HMs...Alright, Rock Smash it is.

Shadow Ball is physical in 3rd Gen. You're much better off with Reflect/Hypnosis. And Trace is quite good, you know.

Say whaaaat? Messed up Phys/Spec splits ftw...
Reflect seems nice, considering my Kirlia's unbelievably crappy defense for some reason (CURSE YOU HASTY NATURE).
My Ralts had Trace when I caught it. Good thing to know it's not completely trash.

Use Strength and Keen Eye, and you render Swift completely obsolete.

But teh DoubleTeam hax...:/
Alright, then, Strength it is.

TM Flamethrower is being used on Camerupt (Numel doesn't learn it until level 44, to hell with that). So, yeah...gonna have to take Crunch.
I'll be taking Return, now that 'Pert isn't using it.

Thanks for all the advice.

Yep. It's not all that bad and theres a handy little "speed up the game" function for all those annoying wild battles :p

I can tell. I was playing Crystal the other day, and I was shocked to find how bad the movepools are- and I'm a third gen competitive player. It can be a bit of a hard knock to get used to, but once you work around it, you realise you're not the only person to suffer from reduced movepools and you can use it to your advantage :p

Good plan.

Eruption and Overheat have 5PP, a definite no-no in my books. I'll be sticking with Flamethrower, thank you.
You wont be using them all that often, and you could always replace Strength with it instead, if PP is an issue. Personally, I never really have trouble with Overheat PP, since its only for specific threats, but thats just me.

Tch, I didn't get Leech Seed on Breloom! And the move relearner is way past Norman. Dammit... >.>
WHAAAAAT?
Get a new Breloom, now. You might as well have a Machoke if you don't have Leech Seed. I'm not kidding there.

Anyways, I need a Grass Type attack in there...I'll keep Leech Seed in mind..
You really dont need a Grass attack- the only decent Grass attack is Leaf Blade, which belongs to Sceptile. Leech Seed and Sleep Powder and the like are the only other good Grass moves. Mega Drain certainly isn't worth it, when you look at Brelooms Sp.Atk.

I'll be keeping Brick Break. 10 Acc. is worth more than 10 Damage, IMO. Plus the secondary ability of BB comes in real handy.
Alright, but dont dismiss the fact that Sky Uppercut can hit fliers. It's something thats skimmed over quite a lot.

Sigh, the never-ending stream of useless HMs...Alright, Rock Smash it is.
It's crap, but it has to be there :(

Say whaaaat? Messed up Phys/Spec splits ftw...
Meh, I prefer it this way. More walling potential.
Reflect seems nice, considering my Kirlia's unbelievably crappy defense for some reason (CURSE YOU HASTY NATURE).
Team support too :p

You have Aerial Ace....?

You can get multiple Flamethower TMs, you know :p
I'll be taking Return, now that 'Pert isn't using it.
And you can get multiple Return TMs.
Thanks for all the advice.
No problem :)

Managed to roll over my old man with a few Bulk Ups. He wasted his time yawning me, while I easily cured it. Vigoroth and second Slaking got OHKO'd by a x5 Bulk Up. I'll get Leech Seed back when I find a HeartScale.
The AI doesn't use FLY all that often, so yeah...

Hm, yes I do have Aerial Ace. Weird thing is, my Skarmory can't learn Strength...

I don't have the heart to go for two Flamethrowers at the game corner >.>

I think Breloom in general just mashes Normans face in. I tend to go with a Leech Seed and then Mach Punch away, but it doesn't really make a difference.

AIs don't use Reflect and Light Screen a lot, either.

If Skarmory can't learn Strength, don't fear, Return is here!

And I think you can find one Flamethrower TM, not sure :/
