4Kids Licenses Pretty Cure

Al Kahn, CEO of 4Kids Entertainment, announced at the ICv2 Anime & Manga panel New York Comic Convention that 4Kids has licensed Pretty Cure, Toei's long-running magical girl series. The show will apparently run this fall on TV; no further details are available at this time.

Whether you hate Pretty Cure or like it (or even know what it is) you gotta admit it's a sad day when 4Kids picks up a new anime title. ._. What scares me more is the future of shoujo anime. They've already picked up three huge titles, I wonder what'll be next...

Since 4kids is going to dub it, I have no hopes of it actually being decent. Esspecially since it's a shoujo and Magical Girl anime, which they do an even crappier job than what they do to shounen anime.

there is a link to a trailer with dubbing but its by Toei, I beleve, and not 4Kids. The trailer was decent except for the narrator. Unforunetly, 4Kids verison probably won't be the same.

I wonder if there's any chance they'll only give them a grainy oversaturated reel? (So that the video can look like the **** they will likely turn the series into.)

Toei are, and have always been, idiots. Whether it's handing off series to bad companies, or screwing up the series they release themselves, Toei's been doing stupid crap for years...

Yes. They picked it up in 2003 I think it was, then came around in 2004 and said they couldn't dub it. Like the series was too expensive for a simple DVD release and needed merchandising and the like.

Seeing as that series contains a lot cleavage to be edited out, "sexual" scenes, etc. I don't know if 4Kids would pick it up. It's true they edited up One Piece to death, but I don't know if they'd be willing to pay so much money to edit MMPPP...or at least I hope so. *loves MMPPP*

EDIT: I checked, and it was picked up June 2004 and dropped June 2005. Off on the years, but the length was right.

Pichi Pichi Pitch was a wonderful story. I think if the shoujo fans really go for it for Magical DoReMi and Mew Mew Power (if it isn't cancelled forever, but temporarily), then there might be a chance. I believe 4Kids would ruin Pichi Pichi Pitch if they had it. And they're gonna ruin Pretty Cure. There was a preview of Max Heart and its movie on that site, is Max Heart and Splash Star bought along with the first series?

Eh, I wasn't that crazy about the series originally. It was aimed at kids to begin with and there's little I saw they would change except f--- up the music and insert pop crap.

I'm surprised though, I thought the series would end up on ABC/Jetix.
