50Hz LCD TV's

I've been looking to get a new TV but it seems as though a lot of the LCD ones that I am looking at are only 50Hz. Considering most normal CRT's support 60Hz why do so many LCD's only support such a low refresh rate? I assume this means that 60Hz only games wouldn't work on a 50Hz LCD
