• Hi all
Just a notice, we recently discovered that someone got into a moderator account and started hard deleting a load of key and legacy threads...around 150 threads have been lost dating back to 2007 and some weeks ago so we can't roll the forums back.
Luckily no personal data could be accessed by this moderator, and we've altered the permissions so hard deleting isn't possible in the future
Sorry for any inconvenience with this and sorry for any lost posts.

7-Star Raids - Strategies, Speculation & Discussion Thread

An Opinionated Butthole
What moron brings a staraptor with a Tera type of flying to this raid?

Cannot believe some of the decision making of people on this raid. Actively trying to lose at times!
I saw someone bring Eelektross. At first, I thought "Oh! That's smart! Gastro Acid to get rid of Chesnaugts ability, Acid Spray to lower it's Sp.Def then go to town with Giga Drain or use Discharge to paralyze maybe..." Nope! Turn one it starts spamming Charge Beam and repeatedly dies because it has no health recovery-- despite having access to Giga Drain and Drain Punch, both Super Effective for this Raid but whatever...

Randoms have rocks in their heads apparently.

Outside of version exclusive raids, I see no reason to do raids with other players. Solo raids are more consistent and you don't get penalized for other people's dumb choices.
But you don't always get got AI helpers. Gen 8 had too many garbage ai npc's martin's solrock and alfie's wobbuffet were among the worst.

Yes, but the Ai going down doesn’t take away from the timer unlike other the case with playing with other players.

In all honesty how they handled in the Ai in the gen 9 raid battles are much better then the ones in gen 8.

Also I saw 3 players bring Typhlosion and trying to spam Eruption seemingly forgetting the fact that in the seven star raid battle Chesnaught is a Rock type. Then in another raid battle one player brought a Inteleon seemingly forgetting that Chesnaught has a Grass type move.

How about Shinx? Just got one as a teammate today, holding a Focus Sash. We won though!

I do it for two reasons: to help the people who are playing them openly (that person with the Level 67 Flapple would have never cleared it on their own, for instance, and likely not the person who brought the Shinx either), and so I can play more than one per 24-hour period.

A lot of people make mistakes both newcomers and experienced players alike.

Yes but surely they can read? Right? You’re playing a video game, you’ve got to be good enough to have got through the game to have that Inteleon and that Typhlosion.

So if you can read, you know that grass starter is a rock type with a Tera raid.

People are deliberately tanking the raids. You know it, I know it, they know it.

Though some mechanics are not clearly explained, particularly as there is a lack of an in-game glossary. People may not know raid bosses still get STAB on their original types, you could also be dealing with a newcomer to the Pokemon franchise that got drawn to a 7-star raid just because it stars one of their favourite Pokemon.

It is possible they received it from someone else (like from a Surprise Trade) and raised them. It is also possible they got a hacked one.

No excuse for if they turn out to have the same Tera type as the featured Tera Raid Battles though, like Ice for Inteleon or Bug for Samurott. Well, except that it may be a shared account, and different people are playing. This is a pretty common thing in the Splatoon games, for instance: pretty often, I'll find someone playing like they can barely hold a controller, and the next match, they're playing adeptly. It happens fairly often for multiple people of varying skill levels to use the same account.

I think it's more that they base Terastallization on how the in-story characters use them. Particularly with Gym Leaders on your first time through, their last Pokémon will primarily use moves of that Tera type. Katy's Teddiursa will only use Fury Cutter, Brassius's Sudowoodo will only use Trailblaze, Iono's Mismagius will only use Charge Beam, etc. This could give the impression that computer players are stupid and lock themselves into only moves of their Tera type.

I never noticed that the Gen 9 Gym Leaders are always coded for a single move. That's almost like the G1 AI that you could take advantage of like Erika against Venusaur's poison immunity and Lance using Barrier on Poison types.

Before pokemon Yellow... Lorelei was a risky softlock risk with Primeape Rage only uses first PP cost if it hits vs Dewgong's Rest...G1 had infinite PP for trainers

Primarily, not exclusively--the further you go, at least along the intended order, the less inclined they are to ONLY use those moves. That being said, I think it only really happens noticeably from Larry and onwards, with only Grusha not caring to stick with the Tera type. Nevertheless, if these people play at a low skill level (nothing wrong with that--everybody has to start somewhere), the occasion may never come up for them to see Terastallized Pokémon use moves outside of their Tera types. Worse still, they may get the impression that you're allowed only to use moves of the Tera type, and it comes as a shock to them to, say, play that Inteleon raid, then see Inteleon use Snipe Shot on the Fire-type they brought, like Skeledirge or Armarouge.

That how Gen 9 raids are unpredictable for many. If people are unfamiliar with Gen 8 it's no wonder they didn't know better Inteleon is originally a
mono water pokemon.

I got up early so I could do this before work and I’ve missed out - potentially luckily I did, I have seen a few tweets of gamers losing their save file over this again.

Game Freak need to step up their game, for real. This generation has been really difficult to defend. So much good design work and thought based on an engine that’s not good enough frankly.

From what I’ve seen, the problem was the raid was causing the game to crash on the item drop scene because it was trying to find non-existent items.

Doesn’t seem to have anything to do with save states being lost. And considering past events, I wouldn’t be surprised if people saying they lost it are lying, losing a save game seems to be the chosen boogeyman.
Also, consciously or not, the Pokémon fanbase is one awfully prone to collective hysteria so it seems to always be trying to make things sound worse (like the single person losing a save game over the Pokémon go connection suddenly becoming “a lot of people are having this issue!!!”)

I don't mind this one bit, i already caught Chesnaught during the last event. Iron Treads is easy to find in Violet
(It would be great if it was a event where the Great Tusk could be caught for Violet Players) I don't mind items too much
