7-Star Raids - Strategies, Speculation & Discussion Thread

I'd like for Decidueye to be next since we haven't had a grass 7-star or gen 7 starter raid yet.
If Decidueye would be next I would love for it to be Hisuian Decidueye. Have it smack around everyone with scrappy and let us see what it’s capable of. Breeding for Alolan Decidueye can be our reward.

If it is Hisuian Decidueye then I wouldn’t be that surprised if it has a Terra type of Flying.
Thematically, I'd say it should be Ghost. It would tie in to Alolan Decidueye being a Ghost-type, it has Scrappy to deal with anyone trying to bring in a Ghost-type (as well as use Shadow Claw for super-effective hits), and it would have Fighting moves for any incoming Dark-types.

A guaranteed Ability Patch is always nice assuming its reward table is somewhat similar to the last three. It very likely having Lightningrod means Belibolt and Miraidon will be off the table unless you have an human partner with an ability altering move. Grass-types will be the order of the day so I guess my Appletun would work well against it.

I would assume Storm Drain Gastrodon would be effective too. It would be immune to Surf and all of its electric attacks as well as being able to withstand Iron Tail if it had the move. Gastrodon would have to look out for Trailblaze or Grass Knot, however.

Other possible moves it may know: Play Rough, Brick Break, Reversal, Fake Out & possible dual screens.

Water Tera Pikachu sounds annoying. If it has Lightning Rod (Which it's a 7-star, so HA is all but guaranteed) then you can't use any electric attacks against it. It's going to Thunder Wave anything that isn't a ground type, electric type, or Gholdengo on turn one, and confuse anything that it can't thunder wave. It can rack up a lot of damage quickly if it starts spamming Agility/Nasty Plot + Electro ball even more so if it paralyzes everything first...Only Clodsire and Gastrodon are completely immune to both Electric Attacks and Surf, but neither learns a STAB super-effective move. Clodsire does get Trailblaze but eh... Without a way to raise its stats, I don't know how much that's gonna do... Yeah, it'll survive, but it won't be able to do enough damage before the time runs out. I'm gonna test my luck with Toadscool but I'm honestly not sure if it can stand up to Surf it Pikachu starts raising its stats or uses Rain Dance. I can't say that I care about having a Mighty Mark Pikachu, but I'm greedy for the rewards!

None of Pikachu’s attacks really threaten Mow Rotom so I guess you can Nasty Plot three times then blow it away with Leaf Storm. Think Appletun could work well also since it quad resists Water and Electric and can debuff it with Apple Acid (and heal with Giga Drain), Play Rough may be an issue but Pikachu lacks a means to boost its Attack.

Edit: While Pikachu can get Fly two turn attacks that put the user in a semi-invincible state always fail when used by a Raid Pokemon.

Yeah, Appletun (and to a lesser extent, Frapple) would be the best bet here. The only thing it could fear is Play Rough and Pikachu's Attack stat is pretty average while Ripen + Giga Drain should be able to keep it healthy (it also learns Iron Defense if you really are worried about it). Arboliva should also be good as it doesn't care about any of its STABs or potential coverage moves, it's decently bulky, and you could run it with Seed Sower so that it boosts its fellow Grass types even further.

The rewards will have to be really good to go for this as opposed as the keep farming the Greninja raids.

Honestly, I get why they are doing it (Pokémon Day) but feels so weird going for a Pokémon that's on the game and on raids already

A friend from another board suggested Clodsire with water absorb as a good counter to Pikachu. Specifically if it carries Grass Knot to counter ground types like Gastrodon.

On the topic of coverage, Goodra with Sap Sipper would be good too.

Or you can just run Hydration and summon rain (yeah there's the risk of giving a boost to the water type attacks but at least it counters paralyzes)

Pikachu.

Pikachu with water tera type.

That's our next 7 star raid.

Pass.

Im going to try my hand with Brute Bonnet. I'm already using one for various 5- and 6-star Tera Raid Battles that need a Dark-type or a Grass-type, and mine has Ingrain (to heal itself), Seed Bomb (for Grass damage), and Pollen Puff to heal teammates who need help. His fourth move is currently Crunch, but I'll probably replace that with Synthesis or Clear Smog for this event, depending on how obsessed this Pikachu will be with boosting stats.

For the record, I found success in previous 7-star Tera Raid Battles by lowing their Attack or Sp. Attack, though this time, the only Grass-type available who can learn Snarl is Wo-Chien, who would be a horrible choice. (There are others, but they aren't available yet: Rillaboom, Calyrex, and Zarude.)

A guaranteed Ability Patch is always nice assuming its reward table is somewhat similar to the last three. It very likely having Lightningrod means Belibolt and Miraidon will be off the table unless you have an human partner with an ability altering move. I'm guessing you're also going to get a Light Ball guaranteed on your first successful raid.

Pikachu holding a Light Ball means its damage output is something you should not underestimate but cleared it solo with Appletun, once you Tera to shed the Dragon-type things become a bit easier. The shield going up Turn 0 means you can say goodbye to any status moves aimed at it but the saving grace its only setup move is Rain Dance, for solo raid soft reset if you get Belibolt or Umbreon (Intimidate users and/or the olive tree are the best).

I was right about Pikachu being annoying. The shield going up at the start kinda derailed my strategy, but Toadscruel still got the job done on the first try. Once you're able to terastallize Pikachu goes down quickly. Don't bother with set-up moves at the start, (swords dance, nasty plot etc..) it's only going to slow down your terastallzing, and Pikachu will steal your tera energy multiple times early in the battle.

I was worried I had to train a new Pokemon for this but I saw an Annihilape build that worked just great. I didn't need to make any new adjustments aside from the held item because I had this Annihilape for my main game and had it built for Tera raids post-game.

Annihilape with Shell Bell, EV on HP + ATK, Adamant, Ghost Tera-type
- all you need is Rage Fist

I just spammed Rage Fist until I can Tera. I fainted twice, but once you Tera, it was easy. Every Rage Fist will fully heal Annihilape. Beat Pikachu first try.

Just took the Meowscarada I got from dex completion, used Knock Off to get rid of the Light Ball then spam STAB super effective Miracle Seed boosted Flower Tricks

I'm going to steal this. I originally had Leech Seed on Toadscruel, but then Pikachu threw up its shield on turn one and made it useless. Knock Off will be a good replacement for subsequent raids. Luckily, Toadscruel can learn it as an egg move so I won't have to raise another Pokemon which is also nice

I took down my first Pikachu. I ended up using Meowscarada and quickly used knock off to get rid of the light ball then spam Petal blizzard for the rest of the battle

I used Arboliva to solo the Pikachu raid. It was pretty easy.

Arboliva level 100. Gave it Covert Cloak to prevent paralysis from Thunder. 252 EVs in HP and SpA. The rest in Def or SpD, your choice. Mine was in Def for Iron Tail, although the SpD for Surf or Thunder might be preferable. Hyper trained in everything except Atk. I went ahead and did Speed too because why not? Moves were Giga Drain, Sunny Day, Growth, and the 4th doesn't matter. I gave it Solar Beam since I taught it Sunny Day as well but you shouldn't need it. Use PP Ups or PP Max on Giga Drain.

Opened up with Sunny Day to eliminate rain, nerf Surf, and nerf Thunder accuracy. Then used Growth 3 times. Sun = boosted Growths. Then I used Giga Drain so I could build up Tera energy but fainted before I could do it 4 times (Pikachu stole energy once). You will likely faint once so don't worry. I had to repeat the 3 Growths and continue to use Giga Drain to build up energy, but once I Terastallized it only took 4 turns to take out the shield. If your HP is fine Solar Beam would definitely speed things up since you wouldn't need to heal. Maybe you could alternate between Giga Drain and Solar Beam.

Edit: Forgot to mention I had Seed Sower as the ability for a little extra healing from the Grassy Terrain.

My original idea to use Brute Bonnet won't work because this Pikachu has Play Rough, so I went with Gogoat instead. Pairs well with Arboliva as Grass Pelt kicks in once Arboliva's Seed Sower creates Grassy Terrain. These are the details I have:

Item: Covert Cloak
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Grass Pelt
Tera: Grass
Effort Points: 252 Attack, 144 Defense, 64 HP, 50 Sp. Defense

Sunny Day
Grassy Terrain
Horn Leech
Milk Drink

This is a set designed to function well regardless of what the teammates use, as there's no guarantee people will be using Arboliva, Meowscarada, or Lurantis (I haven't seen much discussion about Lurantis in English-speaking circles, but I noticed Japanese players prefer Lurantis over Arboliva or Meowscarada). Keep up the harsh sunlight and Grassy Terrain if no one else has set them up, Horn Leech will heal HP and, once you can Terastallize, will heal all of Gogat's HP, and Milk Drink is for if Gogoat's HP gets low and you haven't ben able to Terastallize yet. Covert Cloak is to prevent Paralysis from Thunder, and I had some awful luck with getting fully paralyzed.

Once Grassy Terrain goes up and Grass Pelt activates, Pikachu will stop using Play Rough and Iron Tail and will use only Surf and Thunder. (I might put up a video of it later.)

How do you prevent Pikachu from knocking out Meowscarada repeatedly with Play Rough? I saw people try that, only to get their Meowscaradas fainted repeatedly. We failed one raid because two people brought in Meowscarada, and they each got knocked out four times.

(Do you still get the Light Ball afterwards?)

Play Rough only did ~45% after the Light Ball was Knocked Off, I had a teammate who spammed the Defense boosting cheers ASAP, and there were 2 Arboliva who had Strength Sap to weaken its physical attacks. I probably got lucky with cooperative teammates but Knock Off Toedscruel should be good. And, yes, you still do keep the Light Ball afterwards!
