Hi. I'm new.

Anyways, just recently became aware of the strangely invisible IV and EV dimensions of the pokemon 3rd gen games. So I've been having fun with ev training and IV breeding recently.

the questions I couldn't find out yet are...

1) Since HP is listed as a normal type, does the damage calculated always come from the attacking pokemon's attack stat, or would a HP dark do damage according to the SpA stat? Conversely does the attacked pokemon defend using it's Def or SpD stat in the case of HP Dark?

other question is just cuz I'm curious

2) So I was checking IV's for my aerodactyl and it ended up having 31 IV in attack which was pretty cool. Then I noticed that at level 50 the attack stat was exactly 20 points higher than it's listed base attack stat. So if a stat has an IV of 31 will it always be 20 points higher than the base stat at lv 50? (and how are base stats calculated anyway?)

In answer to your first question, Hidden Power being listed as a normal type is a mistake. It would make more sense if it was ??? like Curse; a move that changes with the pokemon used. When hidden power is any given type, it has all the attributes of that type. For example, since Dark is special in the 3rd gen, HP Dark will use the SpA of the attacking pokemon and the SpD of the defending pokemon. Likewise, HP Rock will use Attack.

In answer to your second question, a pokemon with 31 IVs in, say, speed, will not necessarily have 20 points more than its base speed at Lv 50. EVs and Nature play a part in determining your pokemon's stats as well.
