A Crowning Achievement!

It's one of the Slowpoke festivals where one Slowpoke evolves into Slowking and leads its bretheren into a new home. However the area with the Kings Rock is swarmed with Shellder and keeps evolving the Slowpoke into Slowbro. Can one make it through?

I think it was pretty clever of the dub to call the slowpoke Arthur, which is pretty appropriate for the storyline. I'm not all that fond of slowpokes, but this episode is pretty good. I liked how Arthur was the only one not affected by Larvitar's screech, and how he comforted it. :) The best part of the episode was definitely when the shellders bit Team Rocket on their butts (and Wobbuffet on the head :D ). Overall, pretty good episode.

Overly-dramatic. Beyond that. I don't enough know how to put it, it's so....forceful.

Seriously, that Alice girl acts like it's the last living colony of Slowpoke on earth. Parting with Arthur makes sense(even if it was a little too dramatic), but this.....Wow. I know it was for plot advancement, but really, a little more subtlety please ._. Especially as Alice just mentioned pretty much the same thing in different words seconds before.

K, I don't know or care if Slowking's voice was dubbed or not, but it just ruled. It sounded extremely intelligent, and quite royal as well.

Call me dim, but I didn't know what that waterfall parting image was at first ;-;

The King's Rock didn't really function as we think it does. No trading involved. I suppose it would be rather inconvenient in the animé, but would some sort of evolution quest be that hard to do?

Overall rating:
7.3 out of 10
A Johto filler in every aspect. At least we saw Slowking for once, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the episode when Team Rocket blasted off for the second time,

their Pokemon were out even though they didn't use them? Other than that, it leaves my mind completely.

The Slowking certainly slapped me in the face by saying its name only. Plus, it sounded a bit different from the Slowking in the 2nd movie.

This event did appear in Address Unown so that counts for something, even if it's just a filler.

This episode is pretty interesting, it makes alot of sense with the name of the Slowpoke

I thought that this epidose was really good. I was surprised that Ash however, didn't know what a King's Rock was. Especially since Poliwhirl used it to evolve into Politoed just a little while ago. The storyline kind of reminded me of King Arthur and Camelot. I was glad that Arthur evolved into Slowking. However, I was shocked by its voice. I guess I expected it to sound the same as the Slowking from the second movie.

This is the first time I saw this episode and I was surprised at the same thing! He won that King's Rock in the sumo tournament; had it for a few months, Misty's Politoed evolved with it just a few eps away, and he acted like he'd never seen one. They even mentioned that they thought the King's rock was just a myth!

This is the Johto saga, did you guys honestly expect good continuity? Half the things that went on during Johto made either no sense or felt like an insult to what Kanto/Orange built up.

Let's go to the beach, each.
I waited years to see Slowking's debut after the second movie and I find this? It was just a bad episode in general, despite the evolution stuff going on. The writers still managed to turn a good Pokemon like Slowking into a bland one in an episode like this one, which seemed impossible at the time. A tragic episode because Slowking didn't really get a proper debut in the anime. 3/10.

I think those Shellder tried to stop Slowbro from evolving into Slowking, it was mean...
And I loved that Slowking stayed with the Slowpoke and Slowbro. it was great for it.

Of course it didn't have trading. Those were wild Slowpoke and you can't trade a wild Pokemon. Anyway trade evolution doesn't make sense in the anime.

This was quite a good episode. Ash and co should have remembered the King's Rock because of the Sumo competition and Poliwhirl evolving into Politoed. Slowking seems and sounds much smarter than both Slowpoke and Slowbro.

I like the way that they introduced the King’s Rock in this episode. I always really liked Slowpoke and I thought that this was a very good episode to watch. The Shellder that come out of the water to stop Slowpoke from grabbing the King’s Rock. Arthur going to retrieve the King’s Rock is one of the best moments in Johto in my opinion only because of his overall awesomeness as he tries to get it.

This episode was ok... It was cool seeing a Slowking for the 1st time. The name Arthur really does fit the storyline, I'm glad they gave the Slowpoke that name. It was funny when Shellder bit TR and Wobbuffet.

It was amusing watching Arthur not care at ALL about leaving Alice at the end. She's bawling and he just calmly pushes her away. What a douche.
