A Decent Psychic for Emerald

At the 6th badge level, what is a decent Psychic Pokemon I should have? I got a Kirlia that pretty much sucks in Defense, and a Solrock that excels in Defense but sucks in Sp. Atk. Is there some other Psychic Pokemon that's better than these two?

Gardevoir and Grumpig are good ones to have; though Grumpig isn't exactly what I would call versatile (at least not until you beat the E4 and get the elemental punch tutors) it still learns a nice variety of status moves and whatnot.

And Solrock makes a nice physical sweeper. ;]

Thanks for the advice, and *hopefully* when my Kirlia evolves it'll be more useful as a special wall =)

Really, your Kirlia should be so powerful in Sp Atk that defense shouldn't mean anything, but if you want one that's good in both Sp atk and defenses, you're stuck, because Psychics as a general rule either have one or the other, or are uber.

For beating the game though, you can't get much better than Gardevoir (Kirlia's evo) because of the movepool and stats it has. Just evolve your Kirlia and watch it rip through everything in the game. Alakazam is another choice, with better Sp Atk, but it doesn't have as good a movepool as Garde and its defenses are bad enough to make Gardevoir's look good. Just give Garde Psychic and Thunderbolt and whatever it can't beat with those moves you just beat with another pokemon.

Grumpig is a more defensive option though, but it hasn't got the movepool of Kirlia and learns Psychic a whole 13 levels later than her, as well as having no other good specials to learn before the elemental punches found in the Frontier.

Just give your Kirlia a decent moveset, Psychic, evolve, and it will really make you proud. Seriously, Gardevior is one awesome Psychic Pokemon that I dont know where I would have been in Emerald.

Gardevoir>all.... maybe Alakazam, if you like pure sweep

Gardevoir@Lefties
Abilty:Syncronize
Modest/Timid
EVs:Sp.Atk 252, Speed 252, HP 6 (EVs dont matter too much in-game anyways)
Psychic
T-bolt
Calm Mind
Will-o-wisp (have to breed)/ Ice Punch (Emerald Move tutor)

Fire punch can work in the last slot... but it sucks compared to Ice Punch and WoW

How could I forget to mention Calm Mind? Use Calm Mind like 3 times or something and just let it blast your way to victory.

Can you say, "Metagross"? Unless you're looking for a pure physic, then I'd suggest Alakazam.

Can't get that yet. The OP wanted one for the 6th badge time.

I'd actually suggest Alakazam, since it has the necesary Spd. and SAtk. ratings to run, but if Zam is too fragile for you Grumpig is a good option.

Alakazam, but if you can't trade then I say you should go for Grumpig or Gardevoir.

Grumpig - Defence phychc
Gardevoir - Sp. Attack phychc

By the sixth Gym, you could easily have a very powerful Gardevoir. Don't even worry about its low Defense; a strong Gardevoir won't need it.

I had the same worry about defenses as you, but ended up going with my Modest Gardevoir. As long as she has time to set up with Calm Mind, Gardevoir can stand her ground. (Even if she doesn't have set-up time, she can still leave a pretty big dent in a lot of Pokemon.) Grumpig is OK, but he only gets to be a team player once you've gotten to the Frontier and can give him the elemental punches. He's a little more solid but I prefer Gardevoir's versatility and sheer strength.

Gardevoir
Psychic
Magical leaf(if you can get it, it helps take out the 7th gym alot) or T-bolt
Calm Mind
Imprison

Mostly a next-gym-counter, but Calm Mind and Psychic make Garde unbeatable.

Alakazam
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Calm Mind
Recover

Alakazam is nice too, just recover when ready to sweep. Shadow ball on Ghosts.
