A different way to register?

I have noticed how someone gets banned, gets mad at SPPf, and spams with a different account. If this happens, why not change the way people hear register? That is what happened on my site. Someone I know logged on to my site and spammed it up. I banned his account, but he kept spamming by making different accounts. I set it up so that you need an e-mail link in order to register. It has worked for me so far. If someone registers, they need to put in their real e-mail address, and when they are banned, they can't use the duplicate e-mail address, therefore, they cannot spam. That is, if they do not have multiple e-mails. But that is unlikely as it is too hard and money consuming to use multiple e-mails.

No. It takes two minutes to set up a hotmail account, so this wouldn't work at all.

Also, there is such as thing as IP banning. That will stop the person from going onto the forums unless they use a different PC.

That would not work too well as you can use someone else's e-mail. You can also have multiple IPs. I have access to around 5 computers, so that still wouldn't work.

Most people don't have access to multiple PCs, and I don't think anyone would waste their time trying to get to another PC if they only have one.

Anyway, for now, it's the best they can do.

There's IP hiders too. No real good way to permanently ban someone.

Yeah. My dad works with computers, so we have a lot. I have access to...let's see...six computers. Along with the 20 or so Ibooks that our class has.(there's a set that gets passed from class to class too, but we have our own. ) So that wouldn't work too well. And they could just access with a friend's computer, or make another E-mail account.

You could make it so it requires a cell phone, like gmail does... Some people may be able to have duplicates but it sure wouldn't be easy.

IP banning might not be good but it's the best thing we have at the moment.

Well, maybe there could be a system that calls any number instead of text messaging and tells the begining password.. I'm sure everyone has at least one phone. Then you can make your password whatever. But I 'spose multiple phones are more acesible than computers...

I believe IP bans aren't used here because many people have rotating IP addresses these days and using wildcards for banning more than one combination (such as XXX.YYY.*.*) is a bit too risky because more than just the troublemakers would get banned using this method (do we really want to come here and find that we can't view the site because some idiot was banned for spamming)?

It's really impossible to permaban anyone with all this mindblowing technology we have -_- Leave it to the admins or whoever, but IP banning seems like all that they can do.

IP banning may not be the best, beacuse there is a possibility (NOTE: THE FOLLOWING WILL SOUND RIDICULOSUS) that the member has another sibling that isn't so bad.

You DONT want to do that as it might make it so those people cant access the net at all which may lead to..unwanted trouble. You cant make a forum without some trouble makers around.
