A failed attempt at making perfect pokemon

My little friend
My theory was, if a pokemon used mimic on a smeargle after it used sketch, it would learn sketch, and then it could permanently learn any move you wanted it to. The possibilities would have been astounding.

The scenario:
I tried using my smeargle and sudowoodo in a double battle with the two school girls next to the day care center and mimic didn't work.

Just a heads up to people so they don't waste their time trying that.

this has been suggested many times, in various forms, including having ditto/mew transform into smeargle and sketch some other move. i think this is the third or fourth thread on this topic i've seen just in the R/S/E forums.

Yes, this has been suggested many times, and I think everyone or almost everyone did not try that.

mimic doesn't work permanently like sketch so the game comes up with an error and doesn't allow it to work. people have tried.. all have failed.

What does it say? Does it just say "but it failed...", or something else?

Who moved first? Smeargle, or Sudowoodo?
If it uses Mimic before the target makes a move, it won't work.

Smeargle has one of the highest speed stats in the game, so this doesn't surprise me.

smeargle's base speed is only 75. not actually all that good. for comparison, venusaur's base stat for speed is 80.

273 is it's highest, and it's only about 20 points behind Mew. In Altering Cave most of them outran my lv. 52 Lugia. I'd say that's fast.

It could outrun Kyogre if it had the right nature...

The one and only.
This whole senario reminds me of the ditto glitch on r/b........
But I tried it and failed.......
Before this.

I allready new about this, it does not work, it never did work and it never will Just let me clarify, the only pokemon allowed to learn an move it wants is Smergly, so dont try any ditto stuff because it does ditto :D.

Let me be the first to call B.S. here.
The only way it could have been in altering cave was if you cheated
maybe you meant artisan cave?

A non-Ev trained Smeargle out"running" your level 52 Lugia means that your lv 52 Lugia is SLOW!

Also, the max speed for Mew is 328, and that's 50 more than Smeargle's, not 20.
