A Fashionable Battle! (876)

If anything legendaries makes it even less legit.
Well, at least Ash has defeated some legendary users in the past, and it's not weird that Tobias has, right? We are talking about the type matchup in both battle! Did Ash and Cameron even cared about matchup in that battle? I don't think so! And did both of them even try?

Yes I have seen One for the Goomy. Serena won but she didn't do that well - Ash and Clemont (and pretty much any of Ash's other companions) would have defeated them much easier. It's Team Rocket and Pancham almost lost. She was loosing at the start of the battle. Plus I never said Jessie was stronger than Serena. I just said that she was a girl into fashion. Personally I think the whole concept of being a performer is more BS than anything we saw in BW. At least with contests there were battle's involved which is kind of the entire point of the Pokémon series. And yes Serena is a Pokémon trainer - Everyone who has Pokémon is a trainer that's how it works. Being a co-ordinator or a breeder or even a performer still requires you to be a trainer.
Do you see that your post is full of flaws? You used Jessie to said that Serena can be a battler while being a performer, I proved that Serena can hold herself against team Rocket! And defeating villians by Pokemon battle has proved that you know how . to . BATTLE, even if the villians are idiots, they are still villians! Not a battle master but KNOW.HOW.TO.BATTLE! Serena can hold herself against a Kalos Queen! Which is proved that her battle was at least mediocre, but not TERRIBLE! And if I recalled right...sometimes Ash was losing at first in some battles against team Rocket! Now if you tell me a performer must be a battle expert...then yeah, I guess I will just surrender in this argument...

Oh and btw, the anime is called Pokemon, not Pokemon battle or the war of Pokemon...the writers are trying to prove that Pokemon can be more than just battling, so it's nice seeing an activity without Pokemon battles for once! From the reviews of both Tripokalon episode, many ppl are enjoying the episodes like those, so deal with it!

Nobody in BW tried to care about type matchup. As I've said Trip sent Serperior out in every battle in the Junior cup and every opponent had a type advantage. Why should it matter so much in one battle.

Now if you tell me a performer must be a battle expert...then yeah, I guess I will just surrender in this argument...

I never said she had to be an expert. I'm not calling her out for not being the best - I'm saying that she is mediocre at battling (which you've admitted). Serena is easily the weakest companion Ash has ever traveled with out of all the main travelling companions. The fact that she wants to be a Pokémon performer does not change that fact. And as far as the battle with Team Rocket went she was only as strong as she needed to be for the episode. If she hadn't won Team Rocket would have just stolen Goomy and the others so the plot wouldn't have worked. Plus I get the impression that they tend not to want to give villains like Team Rocket too much in the way of achievement because it sends the wrong message - What Team Rocket are doing is actually quite nasty when you think about it (separating Ash and Pikachu, making it so the two best friends/soulmates won't ever be together again and then forcing Pikachu to fight for a madman who wants to take over the world). They wouldn't be comic relief if they won. Even if it's to Serena Team Rocket will always loose.

Well several series actually use the word battle in the title or imply it - Pokémon advanced battle, Pokémon Battle Frontier, Pokémon Galactic Battles, Pokémon advanced challenge, Pokémon Sinnoh League victors, Pokémon master quest etc. I have not said that Pokémon cannot be more than just battles. So what if people are enjoying the tripokethon I don't see your point. Many people enjoyed the Ash/Cameron battle too and the Unova league in general I'm sure. That argument works both ways. People are entitled to like or dislike anything they like and to express and discuss it. The anime has a lot of different parts to it. You think the Unova league was bad. I hate tripokethons and if I'm honest I don't really like Serena. Other's do - that's fine. It's not real life so it doesn't really matter. In any case I think we've strayed a little far from the topic of the thread so I'm going to leave it here. Let's put it this way.

Well, many people enjoyed Ash and Cameron battle? That suprised me to be honest XD! But,this time the series is called Pokemon the series: XY not Pokemon XY battle so yeah... I didn't said that the Unova league was bad... I was really enjoyed Ash vs Stephan, maybe Pikachu vs Serperior, I would actually love it if it was an 3v3...

Well, seeing that you hate Serena is more like you misunderstand what the writers are doing with her... As I said, I think this is somewhat sensitive, from the start, you mentioned that how Serena did nothing in this episode but looking at the dress, and how you told us that she's slacking off in training performance, that's the main reason why I replied to you! And the rest, you dragged this argument into personal opinions... Btw, how the heck did we start arguing about DP vs BW when we are talking about this episode?

From your previous reviews of Serena's episodes, I already knew that you hate Serena :p.

Let's put it this way. I feel the same way about Serena and her episodes as others do about Cameron and his episodes. There are a lot of character that many fans don't like. Plenty of characters get negative reviews and I'm not the only one who doesn't like Serena nor am I the only one who likes Cameron. At the end of the day the anime is not a work of literature it's a marketable product. The writers have to make it so people will watch it so the company can sell it to networks at a high price that will turn profit for shareholders. It's going to go with what's popular. Serena and her "development" seem to be popular (I'll never understand why) and Cameron unpopular. It's disapointing but their you are. I can always write fanfiction

I can't argue with that... And I want this argument to end now, it has taken 1-page space :/

Let's go to the beach, each.
I'm sorry If I sound rude but this has to be a joke. The dub music was fine from OS to DP but now... It's too generic and doesn't have any kind of emotion. If only they re-used old themes...

I don't have any taste for music but that's what I feel with the new music. I'm probably wrong, I don't know...

The music here wasn't as bad as usual though in my opinion, or maybe I just don't recall how bad the dub BGM is since I don't actively watch it, with this episode being the exception. :x

A fine episode. Scottie is now Sawyer? Okay, then. But is it really necessary? Battles were okay, though the fashion show part was a bit funny.

Looks like this will be the first episode to start the ORAS promotion in the anime, what with Sawyer using a Bagon, a gen 3 'mon.
The way Valerie can talk to Pokemon like the Pokemon is so adorable! :)

Finally caught this episode while catching up. Valerie sounds great and looks beautiful in the anime! Sooo pretty. <3 It's also cute how she can communicate with her Fairy type Pokemon. I've long been waiting for her to appear in the anime, and this debut episode didn't disappoint.

The battles were alright, but nothing worth writing back home about. Especially the showcase battle at the Fashion show. Good stakes, but predictable outcome.

A great background episode for Valerie.

I find it intriguing that Valerie's hobby/other job is so closely related to her gym leader responsibilities but I find it commendable that her talent in fashion is used for her other passion in battling. Also, it's always cool when a character can communicate with Pokémon.

The battle at the end was short and one-sided but it was expected considering Sawyer's inexperience. I look forward to see how he grows as a trainer.

Good episode onto some fairy type trickery!

Valerie's fashion show was brilliant and Sawyer really showed his inexperience here when he used Bagon against Spritzee in spite of its disadvantage. 6/10

It makes it weird that there was no backstory on how Tobias acquired Darkrai or Latios. It was a major unexplained block to Ash not being able to win this league either.

As for Serena, Serena has moments where she is focused on training and others where she draws inspiration from her surroundings. She is still, in a way, training.

I remember watching this episode several months back and I was charmed by Valerie's fashion show. I liked how Valerie could communicate with Fairy-type Pokémon and I certainly remember those good old days when Sawyer was clueless in battle. Honestly I was surprised when he used that Bagon against Valerie's Spritzee in his Gym battle.

Squeee.~ I loved this episode for the fact that my favorite Gym Leader Valerie and the Furisode Girls made their debut. Serena in a kimono was also an added bonus. Sawyer was meh at best, though.

Since the Gym was closed down for the fashion show event, I like how Ash let Serena go see Valerie's designs. He definitely matured a lot since in the past, he would act immature and not let the female companion go do what she wants.

Laverre city looked gorgeous and it was nice seeing Ash and Sawyer meet each other. I felt slightly bad about Sawyer losing to Ash and Valerie tho and I would've liked if Valerie had used her Mawile instead of Spritzee. ^^

Mawile is half Steel-type though, so I think that the writers went with Spritzee instead because it was pure Fairy-type. Then again, idk why they didn't just make Sylveon be Valerie's ace like in the games...

Limiting the Gym Battle to 2 Pokemon only this far into the region was dumb on itself.
