The Gourgeist Festival! Farewell, Pumpkaboo!?

In the next town, Ash & co. learn of the Gourgeist festival where all people dress up in various Pokémon costumes. Team Rocket are around and are wanting to steal Pikachu, but when the nearby count bumps into them, he asks if Jessie would like to trade her Pumpkaboo with him, to top it off, Jessie's Pumpkaboo has fallen in love with the count's Pumpkaboo. Will Jessie and Pumpkaboo part ways? Will Pumpkaboo get a happy ending?

tl;dr - this was a purely TR focused episode. Here's my take:

Pros:
- Jessie's Pumpkaboo evolving into Gourgeist via trade was good; showcased its in-game evolutionary process (about time).
- The battle animations were actually good for these kinds of episodes, surprisingly.
- Cosplays OP because the butler took the wrong "Pikachu", taking Clemont's Chespin instead (who was dressed as Pikachu). Top kek.
- Ash, Serena, Bonnie, and Clemont's cosplays were pretty good.
- Braixen, Bunnelby, and Pancham got some decent screentime here.
- Pumpkaboo's size difference clearly showcased in this episode. The difference between a Super Size Pumpkaboo and a Small Size Pumpkaboo is astronomical.
- Small Size Pumpkaboo immediately revolting in reaction when he(?) saw the newly evolved Gourgeist and didn't love it anymore. I guess size does matter when it comes to romantic compatibility for the Pumpkaboo line. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Cons:
- TR dun goofed like always. Jessie had trading remorse, wanted her newly evolved Gourgeist back.
- TR completely forgot that they were carrying Chespin (dressed as Pikachu) instead of Ash's Pikachu. Top kek.
- At best, the castle owner and his butler served as comedic relief; at worst, they were incredibly annoying. And their faces when they realize who they were actually dealing with after TR were exposed and blasted off....
- 75% of the OP was taken up by Pokemon XY: Movie 18 promotion. I was hoping to see if there were any spoilers in the main group's Pokemon, but I guess that'll have to wait until at least after the early August break....

6/10.

That's a big Pumpkaboo.

Well, we all knew how this episode would end up with Gourgeist returning to Jessie, but damn the execution was great. This episode had a better "direction" for lack of better word than the last one, that is it knew where it was going. I loved how everything was set-up this episode, with the rest of team rocket being the straight man to Jessie's ridiculous delusions and MADE UP FLASHBACKS, while Pumpkaboo is the stilted friend angry that Jessie would easily give it up for a Pokemon that can mega evolve (fantasy sequence). As for the gang, well they hand know idea what was going on, which was fine as it was a TR focus episode, despite this they made good use for their time. Serena and Clemont were not left in the dust by Ash, but played their parts as well. Serena battles here with Pancham and later Braixen, while Clemont's Chespin being stolen sets up the conflict of the episode later. Also, Bunnelbro is back.

Had me laughing like crazy. I still want Serena to get Mawile though, Florges or not.

So, what happened to people giving us a rundown of the episode as it was happening? For some of us, that's all we had. I was kinda hoping to see that this morning when the episode was airing.

Awesome that Pumpkaboo evolved, though. And while it's cool that she learned a new move... Bullet Seed? Really? Come on, why not let it learn its signature move already? I for one would love to see how Trick-or-Treat works in the anime.

I have to say that that was an somehow good episode and it entertained me more than I thought. Also a big plus for the many (but short) battles. The short bickering between Jessie and Pumpkaboo was also interesting. Also development of the character society between both.

Well I give this a 8/10

I guess Gourgeist doesn't need frustration anymore lmao.

I liked that all the main characters dressed as Pokemons. I loved Jessie and Serena costume of Mismagius and Florges, respectively. Quite funny to see the size difference of Pumpkaboo. Glad to see Jessie loves her Pokemon dearly and they loves her back too.

Let's go to the beach, each.
I enjoyed the cosplay stuff more than I thought I would, and Jessie and Gourgeist looked cute and happy together in the end. I'm glad that TR's antics weren't too annoying this time around.

She didn't learn Bullet Seed, it was Leech Seed. She didn't learn anything new.

Now that I think about it, I say that Bonnie going in that Ludicolo costume was pretty much useless, she could have gone in her pyjamas, nobody would know the difference between it and a costume. Nice to see Jessie's Gourgeist is female, she got cuter by evolving I'd say!

I adore Jessie and Gourgeist. That's about it. Oh, and when I noticed Wobbuffet dressed as Sawk near the end I laughed.

Too old for your rubbish..
It was nice to see Inkay reuse its Pikachu disguise.. and correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Meowth also cosplayed as a Banette before?

Pikachu as a Psyduck was adorable.

Pretty decent episode all in all. IDK why but I've found myself enjoying TRio focused episodes, so IMO they're not really a problem. Its when the writers stuff them in situations they don't need to be in that they become problematic.

Like with episode 18, 44, 52, 68,69 and 70.

Beside that this episode was quite decent.

I'm a big Pokémon fan but had no way of seeing this episode yet and was wondering if Jessie sneakily planned on getting gourgeist back or what the reason for her quickly reversing the trade on the "count"
