A little help here?

I have a copy of Star Wars Battlefront, and it is my favorite game. The only problem is that now it is to scratched up to play. I tried everything, but the PS2 just keeps on saying 'Disc Read Error', or the screen turns red and says 'Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 Format disc'. Can anyone help me get my disc repaired?

I had a similar problem... Only that it involves my old GBPlayer boot disc for the Gamecube. Now, when I tried to boot it up on my Gamecube it said: "No Disc. Please insert a Nintendo Gamecube disc." Sorta the same deal you've experienced, huh??? Well, I bet this same deal also applies to PS2 as well as any gaming console that uses CDs, but still, the only solution to the deal you've experienced is to get a new copy of the game just for a replacement disc... Don't worry about your saved data: it's all stored in the Memory Card, not the game itself, so what if you use a different disc: Unlike the deal in the 64-bit and lower generations(in which all the game data, including the save file, is stored in cartridges), in this generation, no need to worry about easy loss of save game data due to some technological limitation: when the data's saved, it doesn't matter if you're using another person's copy of a game you already own, as you can continue from where you left off before the disc was scratched because of the Memory Card...

EDIT:

^ I know what some PS2 owners might think, so just in case...

*prepares to get flamed from a fanboyish comment for a Gamecube relation to your question's answer*

Have you tryed cleaning it with soap and water? It sounds crazy, but I've had a couple of games, one on Gamecube and one on PS 2, the systems wouldn't read the games and they where a bit scratched up, but I cleaned them with soap and water and they worked good as new.

I wouldn't really recommend water, but hey, if nothing else works, it could be worth a try. You can also get a DVD cleaner/resurfacer kit. They grind the surface a bit. If the scratches aren't too bad, you can usually get it working again. If you have deep scratches, you will probably have to replace the game in general. If you do have to buy it again, you can check around to see if there are any used copies. The stores usually check to make sure the CD's are good, but you can double check when purchasing. That would be a lot cheaper than buying the game new again.

EDIT: Oh yeah. You also might wanna try it in a friends PS2 or something too. Could just be that your laser pickup is going bad. You might have to replace the PS2 instead of the game. Just depends on which is going bad.

Go to game crazy and have them resurface the disc.

Where is this Game Crazy? If it has a store in St. Louis Missouri, then I'll be able to go.

There's about 4 stores near you.

Store Specifics

Generic Web Site

You can also ask around at Pawn Shops too. If they sell CD's or DVD's, they will normally have something to resurface the CD's. It helps if you know someone working at one of those locations and they may do it for free. I don't live near a Game Crazy, so can't say anything about them. They can tell you what they can do though.
