I guess I'll edit in a name later on. This is actually my first ever story, but I am having a good friend of mine check it over for mistakes, just in case =p

I'll edit more chapters into this as I make them and inform people in a new post, so it is easy to reread if anyone would want to.

Chapter One – Before the party

It was a cool summer morning in a small town in Ontario. A boy named Pat woke up to find a smile on his face. It was his birthday today, and he already saw a few of his presents. There was still one long parcel, which he didn’t open yet; he couldn’t wait until his party.

He had invited a few of his close friends; it would be a small party. Getting out of his bed, he got dressed and quickly ran downstairs. His parents were annoying him like always, pampering him, and just treating him like a little stereotypical “birthday boy.” He hated it. Why wouldn’t they leave him alone?

He wolfed down a slice of toast, and went upstairs and turned on his computer, and went on MSN. There were only two people on. Jay, who was his best friend, and Kate, the girl he liked. Although he had never admitted his feelings to anybody except Jay, he had a feeling that Kate knew what he felt. He was usually quiet and never spoke to anybody, but he always talked to her when they were close. Both of them messaged him

Jay: Hey man, happy birthday!
Pat: Thanks. You gonna come round 5, right?
Jay: Well, can I just come now? My bro just lost his job, and he is just annoying the crap out of me, and trying to get me off the computer
Pat: Sure, why not. Don’t think my parents would care
Jay: Thanks, bro. I’ll be there in 15 min.
Jay: Oh, will Kate be coming?
Pat: Nah, not even sure if she knows there is a party. There will only be around 5 people over here. We’ll talk when you get here.
Jay: Kay man, cya

Kate: Happy Birthday!
Pat: Yeah, thanks I guess
Kate: Something wrong?
Pat: Nah, just sad that my parents won’t let me have a party. I just invited Jay over, he should be here soon.
Kate: Ooh okay. Can I come?
Pat: …hmm
Pat: Nah, sorry. My parents don’t want anybody else over today
Kate: w/e then
Pat: Yeah, Jay just arrived, gotta go off. Cya at school tomorrow
Kate: Bye

Pat signed off MSN. Jay hadn’t actually come yet, he just didn’t want to be questioned why people weren’t allowed to come to his house on his birthday. He just went downstairs and waited by the door for Jay. He arrived in about 10 minutes, and they decided to go upstairs and just waste time playing some PS2 and talking. He gave Pat a 50 dollar bill as a lazy birthday present, took off his coat, and ran upstairs to grab controller 1.

“Yo Pat, I think Kate might like you a bit.”

Pat was a little surprised, and responded, “How would you know that?”

Jay said, “Well she asked me if you liked her on MSN, and she seemed rather, well, unstable. She answered everything really fast and made lots of mistakes.”

“What did you tell her when she asked if I liked her?”

Jay smirked and replied with “I said, ‘Pat likes you a lot, he even dreams of you.’ She seemed surprised.”

Pat turned red and shouted, “WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SAY THAT FOR?!”

Jay just burst out laughing, “Don’t worry man, I just said, ‘Maybe, but I don’t know.’ I wouldn’t do that to you man, we’re friends.”

“Good,” Pat replied, “I was a little scared there.”

They got bored of playing the PS2 rather quickly. They were each good at their favorite genre, so they couldn’t find a game where they were balanced. Putting down the controller, Jay suggested they go for a small bike ride, because they had about two hours until the party. A bike ride was a nice time to talk for them, as they both enjoyed feeling the wind through their hair. The conversation slowly steered towards Jay’s brother.

“Well, he was working in a company earning a fairly big wage, but he won’t tell us why he was fired. I sort of suspect he did something illegally, but he won’t ‘fess up. It gets really annoying having to share a computer, though. He really needs to find a way to get a job again. Why the hell would a 25 year old live with his parents? At least my parents are letting me get a cell next week, so I can go on MSN from there.” Pat wasn’t really listening, he was still thinking about what Jay said about Kate liking him. “…then my mom was like, ‘JASON! GET OFF THE COMPUTER! YOUR BROTHER NEEDS TO FIND A JOB!’ as if he actually looked up jobs on that thing…Hey man, you listening?”

“Oh, sorry. I was just thinking…”

“About her? Man, you should try asking her out”

Pat started turning a little red. “I can’t…I just can’t. I would get nervous and just screw up…”

Jay smirked and replied, “Yeah, whatever man. Hey, let’s get back, the guests should arrive soon.”

Pat looked at his watch. It read 4:15. “Yeah, let’s go.”

Chapter Two – Birthday Surprises

When they arrived back at Pat’s house, his mother asked him where he had been. He simply replied with an arrogant “…out.” His mom got a little angry, but over the years she has grown to ignore those sarcastic remarks. It took about 5 minutes for the next guest to arrive. It was one of Pat’s childhood friends, Rick, along with his parents, who drove him here.

“Hey Pat, happy birthday. I almost forgot it was today, until my parents reminded me. I got you a new game for your birthday, it’s the new Dragon Ball Z fighting game!”

“Thanks,” Pat replied, “I really needed a new multiplayer game, these ones were starting to bore me. Come on up to my room, I’ll be there in 5 minutes.”

Pat went to his parents, and asked them if he could open his presents. They told him that it was a surprise, and to wait for the rest of the guests to come. He went upstairs to try out his new game, but was called down almost immediately, the rest of the guests arrived. Dave and Bill were twins, and they also brought their sister, Sarah.

“Hey guys, glad you could make it. I just got a new game, let’s go upstairs to play it! It looks pretty cool for a fighting game.”

Bill replied with, “Wow that sounds fun. Here’s 90 dollars, 30 bucks from each of us. I’ll see you upstairs then.”

Dave simply nodded and shook hands. He never really talks. Sarah, on the other hand, was a total freak. The only reason she was invited was for the money, Pat really wanted to get a better MP3 player.

Just like Pat thought, Sarah started acting weird right away. “Ooh Pat, your red eyes are so shiny!”

Pat just replied with, “My eyes are greenish blue, not red, you idiot. Go do something.”

Sarah was determined to piss Pat off though, and commented, “Your hair is so GREEEEEEN! I wanna steal it!”

“Sarah, just shut the hell up. My hair is brown, for the last time. Go hang yourself…or do something creative. Stay away from me at least.”

Pat went upstairs and started playing his new game with the others, completely forgetting about opening his other presents. After about two hours of non-stop playing, his parents called him down for cake. He then noticed his presents, and proceeded to open them. There was a bunch of clothes, which he mostly ignored. He saved the long parcel for last, because it seemed like it could be something nice…either that or a very long lamp. Most of the presents were uneventful, but when he finally opened the last one, he was extremely surprised. In the long case was a real Japanese katana. His parents seemed to enjoy seeing Pat so happy for the first time in quite a while. They simply commented with, “Try not to hurt anybody, and don’t play with it in the house.”

Afterwards, the cake was served. Pat blew out the seventeen candles, and took a slice of cake. He ate it very fast, so he could go outside and try out his new weapon. He ran out to the backyard (forgetting his shoes) and started swinging it around. It was a little heavy, but that was to be expected. Tossing a branch into the air, he sliced it right in half. He didn’t even notice where he was swinging, and he hit it straight down into a fence post. It made a huge gash, but Pat just ignored it. He stowed the katana away into its case, and went back inside. Everybody else had already gone back up to the PS2, so he hid the katana in his bedroom and went over to the TV room. The rest of the day was spent playing his game.
