A more mature look on Pokemon (RPG)

TurtleLove

Slow and steady baby
Before i go into anything, look at my signature picture, and THIS.

See that?

THAT is the realistic/mature form i want Pokemon to have.

By playing the games, Pokemon itself is aimed at a younger crowd. But it still attracts an older crowd aswell.

The RPG:
Because beyond the seemingly simple turned based battle system, their's so much more. Abilities, Attack Combos, EVs/IVs/Custom Movesets, Breeding, and more.

But once you get past the Pokemon combat system, the RPG reverts back to its childish nature.

Simple story lines, lack of character depth, straight-forward point driven gameplay, cute yet detail lacking animals, weak text language.

What if there was a M rated Pokemon game?

No, i don't want a game full of Pokemon/Human sex (besides breeding), Pokemon slanging drugs, and faces being ripped off when Blastoise uses bite.

A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF POKEMON, AND THEIR WORLD

I want things like explanations... maybe a library in the next game, or something scientifically/logically explains Pokemon. Not the simple Pokedex entries, pull paragraphs, hell, even a book desribing a Pokemon.

Where the hell is the rest of a Diglet? Why... does Blastoise have METAL FREAKIGN CANNONS? How does Charizard breathe fire? Does Vigoroth have trouble sleeping? How violent is Crawdaunt really? What makes a Pokeball float back into a trainers hands after it's sent out?

Things like that. I understand Pokemon is fantasy, and alot of the events could never happen in real life. But what stops them from TRYING to explain it? Sure, it'll be bull****, but it'll be interesting bull****.

BETTER DIALOUGE

Seriously... i almost reached in my Gameboy and slapped that little boy on route 117 in R/S/E that said "The air is tasty here!".

WTF IS THAT?!

No but besides that, i enjoy the stupid, idiotic lines some of the characters say, they're fun :D but besides that... there really isn't anything deep. No scandals, conversation choices, drama, or anything.

"OMG GROUDON AND KYOGRE ARE FIGHTING, NOW WE KNOW WE MADE A MISTAKE OF SUMMONING THEM! WE MADE A MISTAKE! LOLOLOLOLOLOL OOPS."

That's it, no personality, just the basics. I want some character backgrounds and some personality, how dry can you be?

OPEN ENDED GAMEPLAY

The Pokemon game flows in a straight line.

<Choose a starter<Raise it, catch other Pokemon<Fight Gym Leaders<Beat the Elite Four<Beat the Battle Frontier<Play against other players<Done

Sure each game has a few extra things, Legendaries and such, but it's still streamline basic gameplay, that stays the same nomatter what.

Imagine Pokemon in an Elder Scrolls: Oblivion sized world... *drools* Maybe thats too big... NO IT ISN'T, it's perfect.

VIOLENCE

I don't want a gore fest, but i don't want a kiddie fight either, something in the middle. Although i would love to see Guilotine actually decapitate something... i can live without it.

Something in between, real... but not sickening.

DEATH/FAINTING

I believe their should be 3 ways to end a battle in Pokemon.

Running away. occurs when running from wild Pokemon, or when a wild Pokemon runs from you.

Fainting. When the Pokemon's HP reaches 0.

Death. Even though the Pokemons HP went to zero, you still pushed it and made it fight, or if you're fighting against a hardcore enemy like Team Rocket/Magma/Aqua or someone worse.

To be continued...

I'd prefer it the way it is. Pokemon shouldnt become a gore fest, nor should it be overcomplicated.

The beauty of pokemon is that you can choose whether to overcomplicate it or not.
I have no idea what an IV or a EV is (although I've heard EV is a pokemon ;) )
other than they can make your pokemon super powerful.

I prefer to play the game for the fun of it, rather than ruin it by choosing stats all the time.

The whole stat thing is clearly for a more intelligent, older audience. The ones that are younger, less intelligent or lazy can choose simply to play the game for entertainment value~

What do I put here?
Pokemon don't have to look ugly to be more mature...and having a higher rating doesn't make it more mature either. A higher age limit, yes, but not more mature. Well that's what I take "M" rating means anyway, for an older audience. Never heard of that one before. Abilities and EVs make it complicated enough.

this is stupid....

This Place is Death.
OK, I think it would attract more mature audiences, but that Blastois picture scares me. Seriously. Look, Pokemon is a franchise made for children. Us teenagers and adults here have just made it into something that we stsillenjoy, originally from our childhoods. Pokemon is not a gorefest. It is made for kids, and will stay taht way. Fan-Art in that style, however, is just plain awesome.

Maybe we should tie this into the "Pokemon MMORPG" idea. I can imagine running around with my custom character, schooling people in intense and realistic battles, and then t-bagging them. :p Then Officer Jenny will attack me, and I'll rape her too. :p Then I'll steal her motorcycle and run over people. :D

Uh-huh... well, I doubt that'll ever happen. Like Kitsune said, Pokemon is a game made for kids. Or maybe for all ages, since we adults like to play, too.

To be honest, I hate it when people get the idea in there heads that only stuff with gore and complicated storylines are any good. Pokemon relies on the KISS princible: Keep It Simple, Stupid :p

i dont think gory. but they should make a T pokemon game. not M, defenitly not M. Maybe they make the usual two games. then make one E and one T. i liked the blastoise pic in your sig but i do like sugimori's stuff.

Pamizard

Queen of Charizards!

You forgot shooting Team Rocket balloons down with a ridiculously large firearm. Happy Days are Here Again.

While I definitely think that violence, language and sexual content should not at all change in Pokémon, I think that a game with a deeper and more original storyline, actual character depth and a longer plot wouldn´t kill the series--the older fans, who are quite a few, would be all over it.

*~Water Lover~*

You. Get it?
I could just imagine...
Blastoise used Bite!
Celebi's face was ripped off!
*skull is showing*
Celebi used Leech Seed!
Blastoise was seeded!
*bloody vines break out of his shell, whole shell cracks, revealing his bloody, mutilated body*
Or harmless battle against Bulbasaur and Pidgey...
Bulbasaur used Leech Seed
Pidgey exploted! You're covered in it's bloody carcass!
Yeah, see how it doesn't work? If weren't for me, Pokemon would be AO'd :p !

I doesn't need to be violent or full of sexual inuendo in order to be more "Mature".

What I wouldn't mind though is more detailed information about pokémon, the general designs can remain the same, but their backstories and information could be much more detailed.

You could check out the Enclyopieda Pokémania in the fanfiction help forum to see what I mean.

But there's no way in hell that the pokémon franchise is going to be based on "nitty gritty realism" Since that's what the american market wants while the japanese market prefers "whimsical escapism", hence why alot of Japanese produced video games are often fantasy-based, pokémon included.

Yeah, the game really isn't even that hard. I've never paid attention to stats, natures, or any of that stuff because of how incredibly easy the game is. Maybe that will change when I actually have some human competition for D/P.

People won't get hooked into it if it were more mature. Just look at how Dungeons and Dragons is looked at.

this is stupid....

Ok, you obviousley have no imagination. Don't post if you haven't got anything to add to the conversation/idea.

ON Topic: I think an M rated game would be a little, well, too mature. But I can picture a T ot E 10+ game for the gamecube/Wii. I'm not talking about another POkemon Colleseum(sp?). I mean a third person 3-D In-depth role playing game. You could still keep the turn based battling system, but I think it would be insanely cool to be able to walk around in a truly three dimensional environment talking to realistic charecters and learning about all those critters you carry around with you.

I've always wanted to see a mockumentary of if Pokemon were real, like Animal Planet/Discovery Channel specials The Future is Wild and Alien Planet >.>

I remember hearing mass rumors about an M-rated Mario game, but that was brought down rather quickly.
Pokemon is widely known to be for kids like Mario and Mickey Mouse.. would they suddenly bring the game rating to T-AO?
If a Mario game had an M Rating for nudity, alchohol use, and suggestive themes, I'm sure parents would still buy it for their children just because it has Mario on it.. which if why they wouldn't want to ruin their image.
