A New Show! The Team Rocket Undercover Kingdom Radio!! (1195)

Is there really any point in trying to judge an episode like this without subs?
At this point we all just gotta accept that some people like Team Rocket for who they are and some just want them more serious/don't like them. Same goes for certain episodes rather they're dubbed or watched in Jappanese. Some people just aren't going to like an episode.

TRio was funny in AG? Well I guess if you taking it in a ‘these 3 have clearly lost touch with reality given their boss fantasies while they’re part of a terrorist organization’ kind of way then yea.
I remember some funny gags in AG but really I remember their shtick becoming kind of depressing in that series.

It was the series that seemed to completely revolve their characters on how much they sucked and were at the total bottom of everything. Loads of characters were concieved largely to be 'better' versions of them, just loads of jokes about what stagnant losers they are but without the actual story and character development the OS had to balance it. It got a bit painful after a while. I also remember their beatings being way more brutal in that series too, the twerps just seemed DONE with them. :p

Most other series have TR as butt monkeys but at least liven that element up a little, even ones they barely get anything arc wise. They don't just exist to make other characters look better.

(You just said something so weird.)
You'd think they'd be supervised to see if they were doing a good job. Normally, this would earn someone the boot.

The most heartwarming part of this episode was when TR were reading fan letters and the one sent in by Renji was about Ash and Goh’s dreams. Although the trio didn’t recognize them, they still were in full support of them. Just goes to show Team Rocket really do have a soft spot for their natural enemy, a 10 year old and his electric demon.

Um, they're trying to set those two apart for monetary gain.

It’s wild to me how people who already don’t like Team Rocket will go into an episode centered around Team Rocket (a rarity in this era) just to complain that it’s an episode centered around Team Rocket. No ****.

I mean, if a product is genuinely good it can prove as a surprise and win over even those who doubted it. I’m not a fan of theirs but I’d be lying big I said that they haven’t had some good episodes in the past. This however, was not one of them. Plus, it’s an episode discussion m. Whether you liked the episode or didn’t, it’s still discussion. And judging by the fact that by now the episode has barely cracked 2 pages, even for those who did like it, there’s nothing really going on for this one.

This is true, but you also can’t tell me that people around here don’t already have a bit of a bad faith perception of Team Rocket. Like, I think this episode was more a 25th anniversary gift to their VAs and their fans, so it’s a niche episode, but that doesn’t make it a bad one.

There being a ton of discussion on a very talk heavy ep in a forum where most of the people don’t even understand what is being said before subs even come out would’ve just shown how much people like to argue in bad faith imo.

To be fair, that’s kinda what happens when you take a gag and stretch it out for 25 years. Sure they’ve been able to have different developments over that time but, unlike Ash, said developments never quite seem to stick and they just revert back to the same clowns they were. And while this may have been a 25th anniversary episode, nothing about it really feels like it.

As a 25th anniversary series Journeys has harkened back to a lot of continuity of the series yet all TRio gets is a radio show filler that’s got nothing to do with anything that they are. I’d even go out on a limb to say that episode that featured the return of Cassidy and Butch acted as a better anniversary episode especially since it featured some callback and featured some real heart with TRio and even challenged them with an important perspective of what life beyond TR is. Even not being a fan of TRio, I find this episode as both boring and disappointing because, for characters that have been a part of this series as long as Ash, I know that the writers can do better than what we got.

This episode was a love letter to long time Team Rocket fans, and it was done nearly entirely ad-lib just like their actual radio show from way back. I really suggest watching it with subs when you get the chance because this episode had its own callbacks that you likely missed due to the language barrier.

Lover of underrated characters
Best companion appeared!
I'm glad he appeared in a proper episode, Arceus knows if those specials will get dubbed or not lol
Lol Brock was more relevant than the TR trio in their own episode.

Please just retire them already, they've been pointless since DP and haven't been funny since AG.
You're forgetting SM....

That was a cute episode, ngl. Far from an exciting or plot-developing episode, but cute nonetheless.

What I liked:
* Team Rocket were really adorable together, I enjoyed their interactions and you can tell that the voice actors love their job. I read a little bit of an interview with the voice actors where they talked about how Journeys is essentially where they got the least screentime, and it made me feel kinda bad for them, so I'm happy they got an episode all to themselves.

* Morpeko ASMR and then Jessie not knowing what ASMR means and having to look it up, very amusing.

* I liked the depiction of the Pokemon world and its characters being connected through this single radio show, pretty much what Ren talked about earlier. Seeing Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, BROCK??? all just listening to the radio while going about their day was really dope.

* Did they just mention a RADIO SOMMELIER at the end? Potential Cilan tease? Yes please! Reunite the BW trio!

* Team Rocket interrupting the narrator, speaking to the narrator, introducing the opening and commercial breaks was all great.

What I disliked:
* Nothing really happened here that impacts or progresses the plot in any way, nor was it a very eventful episode. Would have been nice if Team Rocket got a focus episode where stuff actually happened with them or their Pokemon, alas. People who don't really care for Team Rocket whatsoever will pretty much find this episode worthless.

Hope this episode is hilarious in the dub

santiagus

I watched Pokemon anime for 20 freaking years
I don't care what anyone says Team Rocket still delivers.

While their VA's are still active there is nothing to fear, this is just bad times. But they will be back in full force.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be their resurrection.

Believe it.

It was good because they did what they wanted to do, nothing more, nothing less, which was entertain. It should've aired last week but marketing ruined that. Btw, why the heck is Brock alone in a random forest when he could be travelling the world with Ash?

Zero surprises at the complaints. Even in a series where they barely appear and get a terrible treatment, they can't escape the usual haters. Give us a break.

Yeah....I'm rather glad I waited till a sub was out for this one. :p

This wasn't a bad episode, expectedly like most TR episodes this series, it seems to be a filler but it's a fun character display for the trio.

I love when they show TR to be successful in almost any trade EXCEPT being villains. They actually market their radio show properly, advertise and retool to make it popular.....and then forget about hiring actual agents.

A very dialogue heavy episode, but some cute scenes in there, like Jessie absorbing almost the entire first episode, Pelliper taking part and doing fanfare (the guy ALMOST makes up for the lack of proper TR Pokemon this series), Brock not only cameoing but obliviously crushing on Jessie's voice, and the two professors ending up huge fanboys. Also seems like the trio might secretly root for the twerps (though given this whole episode revolves around obliviousness to obvious individuals it might just them dropping the ball :p).

Also the narrator actually having his fourth wall broken to high heaven (like how they even try to visualise his awkwardness in the final scene).

Really it felt like lost potential NOT doing this episode during BW, the radio show was basically them breaking their serious personalities when Giovanni wasn't around (part out of exhaustion) to try and recruit Rocket agents.

The only complaint I have is this episode didn't air on the 25th anniversary!
Otherwise, a perfect love letter to Trio and their fans for sure<3
Simplistic and heartwarming, I dont see why any person who likes TR will hate this episode
I do hope we get atleast one ep for TR in the future which talks about their old mons, the ones they still have aka the DP, BW and XY mons but Ig SM mons are all we will get
