A New Species Has Been Discovered! I Got a Meltan!! (1055)

I like the interaction between Meltan, the one soon-to-be caught by Ash, and Rowlet. Although, it's fun I would like this Meltan to interact with the rest of Ash's Pokemons too.

The part where the main cast was excited to do the battle activity, only Ash & Kiawe are shown onscreen. Nice trolling writers.

Nice to see Rowlet still doing Seed Bomb with the Everstone and it's sure gives alot of pain to James to the point he was KOed, even after Bewear took TRio away at the end.

Meltan eye looks like it's made of oil, and probably magnetic too because when Rowlet gave it different "heads", its eye returned back to his body, still floating slightly above it.

Yeah, for Meltan & Rowlet defeating TRio without Ash interfering. I want to see more of this kind of victory, along with the classmates own victories as well.

It's a good thing Clefable learned how to control those wild Meltans, by baiting with with pieces of metals. Burnet understood Ash's Meltan appetite too, hence giving it a destroyed frying pan.

Overall, it's a fun capture episode.

Ash's first mythical. I'm so happy. And best of all it can fight which means he can use Meltan in the league

Was worried for a second when the first Poke Ball attempt lodged in Meltan's nut. Thought it would be a fake out

This is one of the weakest capture kind of like Ash's Poipole. I felt nothing for Ash catching Meltan. I wished they had made Ash have more involvment to make it feel like Ash is friend with Meltan then just being a tag along like Eevee and Poipole

And he can't bond with it later...why?

Not thinking twice!

Did Meowth get a LEVEL GRIND? He effortlessly dodged all of Rowlet's Razor Leaf and then Fury Swiped him like crazy. Don't really get why Rowlet didn't just try to fight back or fly away with Meltan, but it was so over the top I kinda loved it. Just so long as they don't really show up the poor guy by having Snowy or someone one shot Meowth the very next episode (though that seems highly possible really, it's freakin' MEOWTH).

Loved Rowlet's bond with Meltan, the two are complete ditzes (the gag with Rowlet evading him shows neither quite know trial and error) and it's great to finally give the guy a little brother type who loves him like crazy, given Rowlet verged a little as the slacker friend no one quite liked as much.

The whole thing kinda felt like a lower deck episode, what with even Clefable getting a bit of limelight, wonder what'll happen to the other Meltan.

Bewear and Stufful's super enthusiastic approach to using TR's vehicle was a funny change to their usual stoic behaviour.

He’s called it “my Lizardon” a number of times, he was using it as early as the sand castle episode to help rescue Satoshi and fight alongside Bakugames, he gets appearances with the group Pokemon from time to time, we know he (keyword) inherited it from his grandfather, he has the Monster Ball to show for it, it’s always been his third Pokemon. Garagara and Bakugames just got the rightful focus and battle time because they’re actual Alolan Pokemon and the ones he caught and is raising. It was absolutely not the equivalent to Suiren’s Lapras which we almost never see and only have seen fishing that she keeps docked at her parents’ house and hasn’t shown to keep handy. She preferred to use Hakuryu along with the other UG ‘mon to go visit Akala with Kasumi even though Lapras is suppose to be the transportation Pokemon and she never mentions it like Kaki always does with his Lizardon.

I think it was that Charizard was largely 'retired' from actual battling for the large part and wasn't seen playing with the rest of the class Pokemon that often earlier in the series, it was often in Kiawe's use but only as a ride Pokemon, from about the spa episode they started to ease it in as part of the main group more often, while I'm guessing it earning Flyium Z convinced Kiawe it still had some prowess in it.

You could kinda tell Charizard was gonna get promoted into his team just on the ground it kept getting slowly brought in as a main character compared to Lana's Lapras that's just more or less been forgotten about. Hell even the first episode where Kiawe benched it for Turtonator looked suspicious, especially after they established Kiawe's overspecialising battle style.

A shame none of the other characters were shown battling (why tease us like that writers?) but I liked more instances of Kiawe keeping even pace with Ash. We need that proper full battle at some point, guessing it's likely being saved for the league.

Well Ash bonded with Poipole afterwards, so the same formula could happen here.

I would argue people want Ash to bond before capture because it establishes how his Pokemon are his friends. There's a direct connection between Ash and his team and having him be a part of it. By capturing Meltan because of a bond with just Rowlet kind of diminishes that and makes him feel a little closer to the "collector" that everyone on the outside looking in almost wishes him to be.

The same thing happened with Poipole though really, Poipole was attracted to Pikachu, not Ash originally. It was only after it was captured that it started to gain a bond with him as well.

On a side note it's annoying we've already seen more of Meltan as a character and Pokemon than Shaymin, the other mythical in the group.

I see your point, but I can't see how someone would think that.

He caught Meltan because it had a bond with one of his friends and wanted to stay with it. Some friendships are made because a friend of theirs introduced them to another friend they happened to have. This is no different, I believe.

Plus, I like that SM is trying to incorporate more Pokemon x Pokemon bonds. With the hundreds upon hundreds of times they've tried to give the Pokemon more human-like elements, we didn't have a lot of these before now, if I recall correctly.

Well we had some previously (eg. Hawalucha and Noivern, Pancham and Chespin) but I do think SM is one of the best for establishing 'sibling' like bonds between team mates (even if it's cut down by some trainers not even getting a secondary). I like all of Ash's team have lots of chemistries between them, there's no aloof bland Pokemon that doesn't interact with anyone besides Ash in his serious modes. The other boys' Pokemon duos are similar, and I think it's a shame they waited so long for Nagisa to appear for Popplio to bond with (a little earlier into Season Two wouldn't have hurt, we would have still known what it was promoting by then).

Granted even Gladion's team, which is actually supposed to be 'team aloof and too cool to play' get hints of playful bonds (eg. Umbreon nuzzling Lusamine's Absol, both it and Silvally congratulating Lycanroc on a win).

Evolve me please
Rewatching this episode made me feel like it just a repeat of Poipole only with Rowlet. The two Pokemon are alone with each other without Ash, they meet Team Rocket/Team Skull, beat the evil team then go back to Ash and the other so the new Pokemon to get caught because the bond with the Pokemon. I think the writers are repeating themself insead of doing something else.

Really after those episode they don't interact ever agian. At least Noivern, Chespin, Pancham and Hawlucha had episode that aloud them to interact. When was the last time you saw Torracat or Lycanroc had a moment to interact with each other?

Hope your not implicating that Meltan should be released because of that.

So long as Ash keeps Meltan, and wins a Pokemon league, I can be asured that I die happy

No! I think the episode felt to similar to the Poipole episode
Ash is missing a team member, so I feel Poipole will come back and join Ash in a team. It'd be pretty kicking if we get to see Ash use a Nagandel and Melmetal
