A question about a certain battle animation in Platinum and what it means

i noticed tht sometimes when i use my machop (nicknamed: CHOPPER) in battle he sprunges in two or three times (with a spongey noise) followed by the sound that it makes when you use a good item or something along with a circle going outwards from the center of the pokemon.

I gave him the item
quick claw
. Could it be that whats doing it?

yes that is quick claw doing its job, all pokemon do that when using their hold item.
