He probably just didn't want to do it anymore. Hopefully Coronis will come by and answer your question though...

To be honest, I'm not sure either. But from what I understand, when Mato quitted PokeSpecial due to health reasons, she wasn't just taking a break but actually resigning.

The PokeSpecial comic was sort of forced to stop if I remember correctly (at least for a few months). Everyone thought that would be it for the unfinished story until Satoshi (the current artist) agreed to take up where Mato left off and began with the Crystal plot.

So, in a way I suppose Satoshi is there to replace Mato but not to substitute for her, and I don't think Satoshi was recruited by Mato to fill in for her either but actually applied for the job independently. Thus, even if Mato wishes to come back, to certain extent Satoshi owns the right to drawing PokeSpecial now since Mato gave it up herself in the past.

Well I do understand being a comic book artist is not easy: Getting rushed by publishers, making changes on art work because of story constraints plus having to summarise storylines in a certain no. of pages is tough work and people get ill from doing it.

And I think because MATO has done 9 books of Pokemon Special and thought maybe it was time to move on and do something else, so I totally respect her decision to not want to continue Pokemon Special after Book 9.

But oh well, I'm still more a fan of her work than Yamamoto but either way, since he's continuing the series, it's all good.

I only remember Mato from Pokemon Adventures, I never read Pokemon Special. Health reasons, eh?;201-m;

They're the same thing...Pokemon Special is just what it was originally called, and still is, in Japan. Pokemon Adventures is just the English name.

Anyways. Mato, at first, was my preference of the two, but now I like both of them for different reasons. Mato had a great chibi style, which I personally love, while Satoshi has a MORE(Albeit not completely) traditional style that looks great in its own right.
