I’ve been further plotting my Arasthe project with bits and pieces of plot popping up whenever it feels like it but one particular thing popped up that was rather intriguing so interested on your views for this one. If you get confused, just say so as trying to explain might bring more to light
Because he said so, a Death God (Or Lord of Death which seems to be an alternate) has popped up in the storyline who is currently nameless and has been quoted in my sig. He is a powerful shape shifter who both reaps the souls of the dead, and the dying if they’ve been good, before moving on to the next waiting. The shape shifting in this case is primarily for getting around and to help with easing some of those leaving the mortal world (Before getting eternally stuck but that’s another story).
However to prevent any power abuse both in terms of his shape shifting, slacking off etc, there is the “essence of death” gained from those reaped which builds back up his own essence he uses up by the use of his abilities. Say for example he went on a very random shift kick as he felt like touring the world for a bit. If he weren’t doing any collecting on the way, his abilities would deplete and do so with each shift, summoning and whatnot until he became incapable of doing so until there is enough reaped souls to build it back up again. The Essence does not harm the souls in any way; it’s just a by-product of being pulled out their body.
Not that he would probably do something like waste his energy, he’s not that stupid plus he holds the one who forced that restriction on him in high regard but still.
The other thing that officially has not been named yet (Essences or Shades, both are good) means he spends the majority of time in an ethereal state which should not be seen normally, bar when needed to be more real which he can switch to at any given time, there is many exact duplicates of himself running around the world doing the reaping at the same time. Each knows where the other ones are, what’s happening around them and any potential thought ranting, because they’re in effect the same it works in a telepathic sense.
Lets face it, if there was just one of you keeping on top of them all, particularly in war times would be a struggle even for an empowered immortal.
He always has his eyes closed bar a few exceptions. If he does open them and the glaive he wields touches the ground, all the other versions of him (Bar one currently but that’s a bit of a plot I want t keep quiet about
) will appear at the location of that particular version and will merge to form his “real self” which is used particular in combat because of the enchantments like magically appearing armour.
Of course whenever this happens death it’s self is put on halt across the world until he splits again. If you tried to kill yourself during this period, it’d hurt like hell but simply wouldn’t work. You would likely die afterwards from any injuries sustained after whatever the summons was for ends. It is likely this was another product to stop him doing as such too often. Currently this is impossible as one part of him is currently inaccessible though he does not seem to mind.
The Death God has the uncanny knack for knowing names of both the deceased, the recently and soon to be. He could tell you up to the very second when a person will die and does not take kindly to advancements changing the dates for him. Not that he would tell you when anybody is going to die but he made a warning to not under estimate him or treat him without respect least the knowledge of death be burdened onto the subject regarding their family and/or closest friends.
He does have a somewhat work related relationship with the real Wolven King (Also unnamed) which is usually the cause of the summon togethers but that would be plot spoiling why. He also doesn’t get on well with the Sentinels who he’s dubbed “old fools too idle to do much more than count the seconds away from his final visit”.
So he’s a bit of a powerful grumpy so and so knowing a lot more about events of the world but sees no reason to tell anybody as he feels most would waste the information. He was not created by the presumed Goddess from the One Shot but actually had restraints put on him by her though for some reason this has got fierce loyalties towards her ideals despite she is no longer alive in the normal sense.
Doesn’t sound cliché or anything does it? I’ve not even started working out half what happens when they get reaped given the whole crossing over problem or what’s even over there. Bitta scrap writing the above really but hopefully it’s understandable.
