A rather touching Signature

Ive been on serebii for a few weeks and i recently came across this signature started by Tyranitar. "(I don't use "uber" Pokemon, I don't calculate stat values, I don't use cheating devices, I don't breed my way to perfection, and I don't care about natures. I catch my Pokemon the way they are, and treat them like individuals instead of brainless drones. If you use this philosophy, copy & paste this into your signature.(Started by Tyranitar))"

Well almostly instantly this was pasted into my sig, and it got me wondering do people who play the games actually love their pokemon as if they were real. I know i do, in my firered version i vowed to my charmander i would raise him to level 100 and never replace him. Now he is a level 75 Charizard and in comparison to the rest of my team is the weakest but i still can't bring myself to replace him. Like all my pokemon they are caught directly from the wild and are not "breed to perfection" and their natures are just plain luck i only caught one feebas with a beauty enhancing nature so i was lucky there.

So i was just wondering if anyone could tell their stories like mine where they are somewhat attached to their pokemon team, and dont just treat them as soldiers.

P.S Sorry bout this being so text heavy

When I start making my teams and training them I instantly become attached to my team. Actually one of the best sweepers on the OU tier, Azelf, is now my favorite pokemon! But as always I'm the competitive person and the feelings dont last for long.

Take a look at MY sig since apparently pointing to it using V's as arrows is considered spam :/

Flabebe's Kids
I don't calculate IV's or all that stuff, but I don't act like the Pokemon are actually living. It's not like it's going to know if I replace it.

Also lol at Mastadi.

I do get a bit attached to them. I usually treat my pokemon fairly. I try to train all of my favorites, regardless of nature or IV's, to a Lv. 100... even though I don't always make it. When I make my team, I become attached to them so much that I don't replace any of them (unless they suck, only which I ditch the ones I don't like).

I also treat them really weirdly. Example: When it was the two year anniversary of me catching my very first Dialga AND Giratina in October, I took both of them to get two massages, I gave them a few good-tasting berries, and I revisited the place where I first caught them... They were my Japanese Dialga and Giratina...

I don't act like they're living, and I'm not into heavy IV training (mainly because, well, its boring)..

...but I do admit I can't bring myself to deleting a save file with my Pokemon. :O

I admit I do get attached to them. It just doesn't feel right to leave them in the box.

Pokemon Ranch saved me from that torment.

Hello
I do, my Pokemon are important to me.
I'm not afraid to admit I cried when I found out my brother traded my Lapras to his game right before my dog crewed it up :(.

I don't say things like "Do you want some food?" I don't use them as soldiers though, I treat them with care. As I like to say "It's rare, so treat it with care":D

I'm sort of ambivalent about this issue...

The human side of me adores all my Pokemon and would never replace it just because it's not the most perfect thing in the world.

The logical side of me tells me they're all ultimately just pixels on a screen....

I get too attached to my Pokemon. I can kind-of replace them(I bred a new Riolu for my platinum game because it's a new game and that equals a new team, and my Pokemon OC's team has her having a Riolu from the very start). I only really care for my Riolu and Torterra, because they're my main Pokemon. I'm a bit fond of my Dragonite and not very fond of my Bibarel. But Dragonite and Bibarel are just my HM Pokemon. And I only have a 4 Pokemon team.

I get attached to pokemon cause they kick butt, even when you don't expect them to. Like Tangrowth. I used him in a Shoddy team and he always impressed me, each battle. As a result, I bred and EV trained one on my Diamond.

And about the whole 'how you should treat your pokemon' thing, let's look at the facts. Pokemon a pieces of data represented by a sprite formed by colored pixels. They do not have feelings or emotions, no matter how much you try to argue the opposite. This, however, doesn't mean those that feel attached to them are wrong. Just don't try to press one view on others. There is no right or wrong.

i get attached to certain pokemon, and treat them every now and then, like with a rare candy, or a rare berry especialy if they use return as part of thier move line-up.

a sad tale with an awesome moral

i agree, i also do this attachment thing. i had a torchic. such a wonderful little torchic. it was 2003 and this ruby version was my first video game EVER!! i felt like i ruled the world with this little fluffy fireball! but all joy cannot last forever. one day, i woke up one day and turned on my game. ( all those with weak hearts turn away.) the file with alec, my lvl.86 blaziken that i had never used rare candies on, was DELETED. my sister deleted my file as revenge. the poor blaziken's loss put me to near tears. plus, my swellow, ludicolo, and manetric,( of whom i was also deeply attatched to), were gone too.

Moral: yes we may be attached to unreal things, but what about adults and their job obsessions? little girls and their stuffed animals? we, as humans, need something unreal to attach to. its just instinct.

Thank you.

i agree with you, except for one thing, i dont catch ones i dont want to train, and i honestly would not ditch them. id put em up for a trade.

and the attachment thing? i have a good reason. once in my sapphire game,( aquired in 2006) i had a goldeen. it was PATHETIC. so, i tried to release it, but it came back. it started to go, them went back to narmal. quote: " huh? your goldeen came back!" i thought this was a glitch, so i looked it up. apparently these game desinger people accually have BRAINS. they wanted to make a game people WOULD get attached to. they wanted you to go through real emotions, pity, like catching a small pokemon to raise it, or triumph, like when you beat the champion, and worry, when the idiotic evildoers mess up totally and you go through some REDICULUsly long sequence of battles( see D/P). they are like good authors. they want you to not only enjoy your book/ game... but to feel like you are there and to imagine what is going through their minds as this one reluctand goldeen refused to leave your side after TEN (attempted) times releasing it.

Moral #2= just think of a game as a book, it will make it much more fun and let you understand my freakish guru stuff im posting.

Really? I thought that only happened if the Pokemon knew an HM attack.

I am recently attached to my new ludicolo and mothim. I went to the battle tower and got them some VERY nice TMs (the 80 BP stuff). I often go to the battle tower w/ these 2 and win w/ them and for that, I give them lavish berries.

Probably that Goldeen is the only Pokemon you have that know a HM move.
So let's say you are in Pacifidlog, and you try to release the only Pokemon you have that knows Surf, ad you have no Pokemon who knows Fly.

The game won't let you release the Pokemon by having it "came back". At least that's what happened in my game.
