A real nooby question regarding steroids

By steroids I mean hp-up, calcium, zinc, all that stuff. Sorry me and my friends call them steroids

Anyways, let me start. Me and my friend started our ruby's at the exact same time, trained the exact same pokemon, and trained each pokemon to the exact same level. But in the end, when we battled each other(btw we trained to the exact same level to battle each other cause it was fun)I lost pretty badly, despite our pokemon knowing the same moves. He then told me he used the drugs calcium and all that. So I wanted to try them too, but after using them, I notice there isn't much change if any at all as it levels up. It's like I didn't even use them at all. =/

So can someone plz tell me how these things work? I usually just raise my pokemon without using them, but I want to try something new. So yeah..

When you give a " Drug " to your pokemon it will recieve 10 EV's ( 4 Ev's=1 more point to the stat ), well... its really hard to explain... try here:

By the way, did you and your friend got pokemons with same natures? And battled same pokemons to raise their EVs equaly?

there is also a secret number in the game for each stat from 0-31.
these are called ivs.... the higher the IV the better the pokemon's stats will be

You didn't take EV's, Natures, and Stats into account.

a good place to train for atk EV's is the route just before lilycove (forget which number)
mightyenas, poochyenas&shuppets all give atk EV's&theyre the most common pokes on that route
mightyena-2 atk EV's
poochyena&shuppet-1 atk EV each
give yr pokemon the macho brace to double the amount of EV's gained per pokemon battled.
for sp. atk train against spinda on route 113
for each spinda you get 1 sp. atk EV

Sadly...I'm on ruby, so no mightyenas near Lilycove, but the Macho brace sounds very useful. If it's okay, mind telling me where to find it?

you get the macho brace by: defeating the winstrates on route 111, then going inside and talking to the ... i think the mother, possibly the grandmother. she gives it to you as a prize.

but of course the Macho Brace while doubling your EVs, it halves your speed. That's why Pokerus is the best when you want to EV train.
