A Reason Ash and May HAVE to stay!

I was just reading another topic and thought to myself, why haven't Ash and May won a Tournament/Grand Festival? They will have their goals complete once they do, so they won't leave until they do! It's really just a theory of mine, but I bet they won't leave as main characters until their goals are fulfilled. Misty wants to be the world's best Water Trainer and she's attempting that while fulfilling her other goals, to be as good as her sisters, no better and to be the Cerulean Gym Leader. Tracey is fulfilling his dream while helping his idol, Professor Oak, of being a great Pokemon Artist. Brock wants to be one of the best Breeders in the world and he travels with Ash and his friends learning more as he goes, only taking time off to help back home at the Pewter Gym and to serve the woman he loves (When he stayed with Prof. Ivy). Gary wanted to be the best, but changed that and has only seen in an episode of Pokemon Chronicles. Max wants all the knowledge and to be a great scientist like his idol Porf. Oak. May dreams of winning a Grand Fesitval and won't quit, or leave, until she does. Ash wants to be a Pokemon Master, so even after eventually winning a Tournament, he may remain to work on his skills and work his way to Pokemon Master.

I had that same theory. They won't leave till the two main characters finish the goals, the writers know the fan base of those characters will be upset with them if they don't finish there goals at the end of the series. So I'm pretty certian there not leaving.

Of course if the writers really wanted to, they could just wipe the slate clean and start fresh with new characters.

What's good is that the writers are treating Ash and May as a set lately, as seen by the Spurt CD and the tagline on Hikari's poster. So if we still have Ash, we'll most likely still have May.

I wouldn't be surprised however if AG is phased out in the future for Hikari though. We'll have to wait and see, should only be about another month before we get concrete info of what's going on for next season.

You're in the minority, though. May's popularity is huge in Japan, (as is Drew and Harley's)

KAORI's commentary on the 9th movie shows how eager she is to voice the character, I doubt the writers are going to fire her.

Yah I dought May's going any where, like you said she has a huge fan base in Japan and I'm personally glad, I'd cry if both Ash or May left. I know they won't though, they need to just add Hikari to the main group =]

I could still see it happening though, they're promoting the hell out of Hikari and all Ash/May got is a single line telling us to keep watching them.

If anything, the writers want us to focus our attention on Hikari instead.

Well like you said will have to see what happens. Maybe the reason why there promoting her character so much is becuase she's new, she might just be another character added to the main group. I forget, I think Tracey got a lot of promoting too when the second season started.

I basically meant most people feel the same way you do. The writers built up these character arcs and haven't resolved them yet. We've been following Ash for 9 years and May for 4 years, and it would be a shame to pull the plug before they got decent endings.

I take offense. I find Harley amusing, and liking a flaming character does not make you sick or depraved. And Ash and May are connected, though I daresay May gets shafted sometimes in favor of Ash-like on the PUSA "Trainer Certificates" they were giving out at JAA Ash was prominently in the foreground while May was standing in back of him and not quite as big. But still, if she was there in the first place the two of them are a set

Were Brock and Max on those certificates too? Or just Ash and May?

Harley scares me LOL But I respect the fans who like him, villains can be pretty cool for different reasons. Any ways yah I don't think either May or Ash will leave, the writers need to have the characters finish there goals before the show ends like I said.

Interesting, they sure do seem to be trying to cement May as the second most important character after Ash. Good news.

Any scans of that certificate anywhere? I'm sure Ash and May are in those boring generic stock poses where they're just smiling. :/
