Another week of Mal's Review -
Pros:
* Ash training for the heck of it (BW needed a lot more of this to happen)
* Ninja antics by Sanpei & Greninja and Saizou
* Clemont's invention...kek
* Froakie and Greninja saving Clemont and Serena
* Saizou's Barbaracle is a badazz
* FROAKIE EVOLVES
* Dat Aerial Ace
* Bonnie wanting Frogadier to re-evolve again...top kek
Cons:
* Ash...WTF? Haven't you seen both Greninja & FROGADIER already? I can understand if it's a former gen Pokémon that hasn't appeared in a while, but really, dex-ing Frogadier again...
* Sanpei's trainer being the masked man could be seen a mile away
* I am a fan of Volt and all, but it's being overused now. Why not use compose some new instrumentals, or bring back an old epic melody.
* Frogadier v Barbaracle ended without conclusion
* Why not make this episode more focused on Froakie? Seemed a lot on Sanpei and running away from Saizou, and then Froakie evolves almost randomly at the end.
* Team Rocket. Utterly useless. Basically to show that Saizou is a good guy (not even necessary since we find that out later) and be comedy relief by exploding Clemont's invention (I guess this prevented the invention from acting as a decoy and led Saizou back to the group, so maybe it was important?) and saying the motto quickly.
Thoughts:
* Ah...so that's what tongue scarless Greninja looks like...
* So that slight chance Serena and Clemont could have their own version of river scene was quashed instantly.
Sorry Geekchicshippers
* Hey Ash....Froakie stuck under some rocks and your Pokémon's faces covered by mud, why don't you uh call your other two Pokémon? I'm sure Fletchinder and Hawlucha could help out just fine here.
* So uhh...isn't this supposed to be Pokémon France? Why the f- are there ninjas here?
Overall I'm going to give it a 6.5, simply due to the Water starter curse coming to an end. Rest of the episode is probably a 6. Barbaracle and its trainer were badass, but episode could have been better. Slightly overhyped.
6.5/10
I wished the water curse could've been broken with Oshawott since he took waaaay too many battles in BW and Dewott and Samurott are so badass-looking, but...little did we know he was a Piplup replacement.
I don't mind Frogadier or Froakie much, but Greninja sure makes up for it.
It almost seemed like a certainty, after Sceptile for Gen III, and Infernape for Gen IV, that Ash would get his Water-type powerhouse in Gen V. But yup, it worked out strangely because he might get Greninja, which is one of my top ten favorite Pokémon of all time.
