I honestly was not surprised that the masked barbaracle trainer turned out to be Sanpei's master, I saw it coming, like, maybe halfway through the episode, but otherwise the episode was pretty good. I liked Team Rocket Team Rocket getting tripped up by Clemont's invention, and Froakie's evolution was awesome. I liked Bonnie asking him to change back so she can see it, LOL.
I laughed when Team Rocket was fooled by those clones that Clemont made and how they blasted off afterwards. The masked ninja being the same person who gave Sanpei his mission was so predictable.
It was nice seeing Sanpei again as well as his new Greninja. The identity of the masked Shiftry ninja was quite predictable, but I liked Barbaracle way more in this episode and Froakie evolving against it was fantastic ha ha.
I get that Ash and Sanpei are buddies, but I would have hoped that he would have cared a little more about finding out whether his friends were safe rather than staying to help Sanpei. Also, obviously this scroll delivery was a test for Sanpei, so why was Ash able to help him in battling Saizo?
The fact that the Gamenodes trainer was actually Sanpei's mentor was expected, yet what I liked the most was seeing Satoshi's Keromatsu one last time before it evolved into Gekogashira, which I've always viewed as unsightly.
I'm glad to see Sanpei reappear as he's been one of the more interesting CotDs from the series. A very appropriate character to witness the evolution of Froakie. When it came to this episode, I thought it was pretty good. I admit that I am glad that this episode broke the tradition of Water type Starter Pokemon owned by Ash not evolving.
While I didn't mind that, I didn't think this "pattern" was done on purpose by the writers. I feel that with regards to Keromatsu at least, his evolution happened due to Gekkouga's popularity.
Poor Froakie just had to go and evolve even though he was ten times cooler in his chibi stage. I did like the ninja stuff though and the mission that Sanpei was sent on was hype even if it was predictable.
