Eternal Daydreamer
Surrender to the Sea
Meh, dunno if I'll continue this one.
Summary: Sometimes one is forgotten. Sometimes people fade into the background. Others stand out. This is the tale of one boy who could follow the footsteps of a man who history may never forget.

Book One: Prologue
Oliver Ignalls was your average high school freshman. He was tall, lanky, flunking English, not ugly yet not handsome, and picked on by seniors. His features were plain; blue eyes, flat brown hair cropped short, a thin lined mouth, and bland clothes. Oliver was one that you could pass by and not notice.
This teenager went to an ordinary high school called Port Johto High School. The school campus was sprawling over a huge amount of land. The classrooms were split in different buildings set all over the campus. In the huge crowds of the students, Oliver would fade into the background.
He was almost alone in the library that day. Oliver’s only companion at the moment was a purple mouse with a curving tale, a Rattata. Rat as Oliver called him, was given to the freshman at registration. It was mandatory for a freshman to receive a Pokemon before starting.
Oliver glanced around the library to see if any of his friends were there. Nope, the coast was clear. All he could see was the librarian busy over at a bookshelf, a few students were hanging around the computer area discussing a gaming website they found, a few more students were bent over books at a table about ten feet away, and a student who was working as an assistant librarian was lazily reading a magazine over at the check out desk.
Rat was currently sitting on the floor chewing on a pencil some forgetful student had left beneath the table. Oliver really didn’t care at the moment, he was far to worried about the report Mr. Fournier, his English teacher, had assigned that day. Dumb essay, he thought. Four pages on a novel! He’s crazy!
“Ratat!” Oliver glanced over at whatever made Rat say something, for Rat was a quiet Pokemon normally. It was the librarian, an old man with graying hair. “Ah, hello there,” he said in a creaky voice. Oliver muttered a greeting and the librarian sat slowly into the chair across from him.
“Raaa, tat,” came the voice of Rat. Oliver glared at the table, where he guessed Rat was. He kicked the Rattata gently and received a bite that went through his shoe. “So, what d’you want?” Oliver asked, wincing a little from the bite.
“I heard you muttering something about a book report and thought you might want a book,” the librarian replied promptly. “Unless you want to fail that class, I have a few books you might be interested in.” Oliver sighed, he had been thinking aloud and now some senile librarian was going to give a dictionary or something. Though, the librarian most likely knew were some interesting books were so Oliver decided to give the man the benefit of a doubt.
“Sure,” he began. “I’d like that, sir.” The librarian nodded and got up, which was easier said then done, as the man had shaky hands and legs. Oliver got to his feet quicker and started following the old man when the said man started to move.
Within seconds, the old man with Oliver and Rat following were at a portable book rack. The rack was ordinary looking, about four feet high with a couple shelves. A few various colored books where laying upon the said shelves.
The old librarian picked up a book. “Midnight by Dean Koontz. Hmm, a horror writer. Do you like horror?” Oliver shook his head. The man shrugged and set the book back down. “Thought not.”
After a few such exchanges, the librarian finally read a tittle that Oliver thought *might* be interesting. “The Odyssey by Homer. An interesting read for a young man like yourself. I remember reading it when I was your age. How about it?” The old librarian sounded excited about this book and Oliver had to admit that he had heard about that book. Several times Oliver thought about reading it, but never got around to it.
“Sure, why not? I’ll take it,” Oliver replied. Rat by this time had walked back over to the table to chew on his pencil. The librarian grinned showing aged teeth.

“I’ll go to bed in a minute mom!” cried Oliver. He *had* been right, The Odyssey was indeed a good book. He wouldn’t have any trouble writing a report on this one. The tale of Odysseus was truly fascinating, Oliver found out. The boy could not put it down!
Rat was asleep in a pile of dirty clothes, dreaming Pokemon dreams. Oliver himself was lying on his bed reading his book with the light of a lamp. He was wearing his gym clothes -a white shirt and gray shorts- as his pajamas. So when his mother finally yelled at him that it was time to go to bed, Oliver simply turned off the light and crawled into bed.
Odysseus was a brave clever person that Oliver wanted to be. The teenager was tired of the ordinary life and wanted some excitement in his life. Only if he was with Odysseus’s crew. If only. Oliver’s head was still full of the daring deeds of the hero king Odysseus when he finally fell asleep.
