Hi all I'd like to introduce myself and hope to grow to become a valued member of these forums,

I decided this was probably the most relevant place to post this as I'm mainly asking about the 3rd generation of Pokemon games.

I have been a massive fan of Nintendo and Pokemon since it came out here in the UK, buying Blue, Yellow, Silver, Crystal, Stadiums 1&2 and the Trading Card game, however I took a break from playing it and have now invested in XD: Gale of Darkness for my GC.

Therefore I am completely in the dark about everything Pokemon since Crystal and need "filling in" on the details. I'm at the stage in XD of the Pokemon in my party being around Lv22. I've also realised that XD only has a tiny amount of Pokemon and now I need (so it seems) one of (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald) and one of (Fire Red/Leaf Green) to be able to "Catch 'em All" and compete both adventures...is this true?

Just need updating about the events of the last few years, (the 3rd generation of games basically)

Thanks for help in advance...

Emerald + LeafGreen + XD (+ Colosseum too, I think) is all you need to catch them all.
Anyway, I think most of what you need to know is covered in the FAQ stickies.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

If you're gonna catch them all without using cheating devices, you'll have to go to certain Nintendo Events to get Pokemon like Mew and Jirachi...

If you can get a Euopean Pokemon Channel or an American Colosseum preorder disc, you can a Girachi.
EDIT: I changed the names of the country's, thanks heyadj.

He most likely knows about the non-obtainables, and here in the UK getting all 386 without cheats will a worldwide mission. :(

I can't actually remember what was there or not in the 2nd generation (crystal), so I'll direct you to here: http://www.serebii.net/games/mechanics.shtml

It pretty much explains the basics and some advanced stuff you need to know.

Enjoy the 3rd generation and 3D Pokémon games.

EDIT:

I don't know about you, but I'm not going to buy Pokémon Channel (GC) and complete it just for one unobtainable, especially when it's about Pikachu making a TV program. It doesn't really float my boat.

EDIT2:

It's the Japanese Colosseum Bonus Disc and the English Pokémon Channel that have it.

Welcome back to Pokémon!

I believe that you'll learn most of what you'll need to know just by playing through a Ru/Sa/Em game. One important difference between the second- and third-gen games is the different EV system. (Most significantly, you'll need to know exactly what you're doing to make sure your Pokémon are the "best" they can be.) You can learn about the new system here.

Welcome to the forums, just look around the forum and the faq forum near the top of the screen, and you will find anything you need, then if thats not enough look around serebii.net.

The bonus disc is nowhere near America-only. Tons of my friends had it (those *******s, threw away the disc.. now I don't have a Jirachi  )

Yup, Lunatone from that admin guy in Phenac city (I LOVE both versions of the music there) and zangoose from Zook after you get your Snag Machine back. Anyway, a few differences are the EVs, IVs, natures, abilitys, the 135 Hoenn pokemon plus Jirachi and Deoxys, and lots of other stuff, and to the owner of this thread, the best place to put this would be in the newbie lounge and help section.

You can get Surskit at the Oasis Spot and Meditite in a trade from Duking.

Between all the games... to "catch 'em all" the best games to get are Emerald, leaf green, XD, and collosseum.
http://www.serebii.net/games/mechanics.shtml
gives info on most the major details of the game.
and if your wanting the legendaries... well.. that'll be hard... jirachi: PAL version of channel/pokemon colosseum pre-order
Mew: japanese event (sea chart) so far not anywhere else
Deoxys: old event in the US/currently at houston space center
Celebi: japanese colosseum pre-order/current US event

You will, I trust, enjoy your stay here.

It's a fun and exciting place and if you need a banner or Trainer Card/s, I'd be glad to help you out.

Thanks for all the info guys...would it be possible to see a list detailing which Pokemon are NOT in each of the 3rd gen games (so I can decide which ones to buy)?

One thing I've always been unable to understand: We've paid Nintendo for Pokemon games so why don't they have the decency to make Mew, Celebi etc available to everyone. We all paid for the games exactly the same, no matter where we are in the world. I have no hope here in the UK... :(

Because they wanted to make it harder to get them, and so more rewarding when you do get them. I really don't care about them, to me they are totally overrated, like don't even talk to me about Celebi's MP and stats lol.
I always wonder why people want them so much. Besides, there's always GS AR.

Celebi has great stats. It's base stats are 100 across the board, making it one of the most versitable pokemon in terms of stats. The IV's pretty much determine what kind of pokemon Celebi will be.

And the reason people want them is the same reason they want Shinies. They're rare.
