How can I know if an attack is based on the stat ATTACK or SPECIAL ATTACK???

I was searching the page but I didn´t find it... or I´m very stupid :)

i am pretty sure that attack is like contact attacks and special attack isn't but i am not sure of it

TEH-MEH!!!
ATTACK stat- based on physical moves i.e. normal, fighting, ghost (a weird one i know!), poison, ground, rock, flying, steel and bug

Sp. ATTACK- based on special moves i.e. psychic, dragon, electric, fire, water, ice, grass and dark.

Hope this helps!

EDIT:Beaten!

Thank you all, I want to EV train a Koffing/Weezing and I didn´t know which stat I got to raise.
I thought ghost and poison were S.Atks

i dont have sure but i think its this way:

E.G. Sceptile is grass type. If u have any grass atck on him thats his special atck. if u use slam its atack.

Get it?

The special atacks are the atacks that are the same type as the pokemon

Back I guess??
^ O_O no...

If Sceptile uses Thunder punch/ Dragon claw/ Crunch/ Leaf blade... it will use Sceptile´s S.attack and opponent´s S.defense, if Sceptile uses Earthquake/ Aerial ace/ Slam... it will use Sceptile´s Attack and opponent´s defense.

Attack of the same type of the pokémon recive a bonus of x1.5 which is aka STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus).

Incorrect as well.

Thunder Punch, Crunch and Leaf Blade would use Sceptile's Special Attack stat and the opponent's Special Defense stat.

Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Aerial Ace and Slam would all use Sceptile's Attack and the opponent's Defense.

I'm genuinely surprised so few people seem to understand which attacks are special and which are just attacks.

If any attack falls under the 'special' type, such as grass, water, fire... it's a special attack, regardless of the pokemon using it (this is entirely irrelevant).

If it falls under the 'physical' type, such as fighting, rock and normal... it uses the attack stat, again regardless of the pokemon using it.

... and here's to hoping Diamond and Pearl switch Ghost to a special attack and Dark to a physical attack, as it makes no sense the way it functions currently.

O.O Ummm, no. As said twice by Water_types_rule and cuiv, dragon is special.

Since when? It has been listed as a physical attack in every manual and game (with the exception of the FR/LG help menu, which is full of errors as is).

*responding to bold* Since R/B/Y.

And since when has there ever been a manual or game that has ever said that dragon-type attacks are physical?

The FR/LG help menu doesn't have errors. Although they cover things any Pokemon gamer does know, it is accurate.

Here's a little test for you; train a dragon Pokemon with Lax nature and EV train it only in Def. while you train another dragon with Modest nature with, say, Dragon claw, and EV train it only in Sp. Atk. See what the results are then after a link battle using them.

Though dragon dance is a weird move. I mean, it's utterly useless for it's type. There is not a single dragon move that gets any advantages by performing DD. You might just attack before your enemy, but that doesn't change the attack.

I mean, isn't DD going +SpAttack+Speed better for the type it is?

That won't be a good thing for Pokemon like Tyranitar. Besides, I don't care about the type (even though it is redundant); it's effective.

Excluding the dragon claw error, you wrote exactly the same thing as me, but with a lot more words...
