iv heard that certain areas in the phenac gym increase the effectiveness - explain please

in the basement there is ares that are dividend into natures( dessert, forset etc.) take your pokemon to the one that fits the envirorment and use the scents it supposed to increase the amount it takes down from the shadow gauge.
