about maxing out stats

I read the section on effort values on the main site and I am stilled a little confused about somethings.

So, I just hatched my Sassy natured Shuckle. I gave him 10 Zinc (Special Defense) and 10 Iron (Defense). I then started to fight Tentacool with the macho brace while switching out as recomended. Right now he is level 13 with Defense:70 and Special Defense:75. My question is how will I know when Special Defense is maxed out so I can start with regular Defense? I hope I have not messed it up already. And, lets say it gets to levels 60 and has all 510 effort points split evenly between Special Defense and regular Defense. (Is that a good idea?) Can I then fight any pokemon I want to level him up to 100 and finish him up without worrying about messsing up his stats.

Its easiest to record how many evs u get each time. Lets say u want 252 sp. def evs. with the macho brace u would need to kill 126 tentacools. theres no way exactly to tell but that is the most accurate. If u gave him 10 zinc then you would only need 152 ev's left in that stat so u would only need to kill 76 tentacools.

Ok, I guess I better start keeping count. I think I killed about 10 or so.

if ur unsure count behind. 255 is max and cant go higher than that in one stat. if your like 3 kills ahead of your count its ok.

K, what about the second question. Where if it reaches level 50 or so with 510 points can I just fight anything I want to finish him off to level 100.

Yup. Since you've reached the limit, it can't gain any more Effort Points, so you're safe.

Thats when u can use rare candies and not worry about weaker stats
