About the Red Gyarados...

Out of curiousity (and because I want one really bad), do you ever get a chance to capture the red Gyarados? I'm pretty sure you do, but Serebii.net says nothing about the Red Gyarados, so...

It is the one from GSC, you just hear about it on the TV at the beginning in the game.

GSC and DP belong to the same time frame so it most definately is a reference to Johto's Red Gyarados.

It's just there as a catalyst for the plot. Also confirms the time frame for the games.

There are only two ways to get a red gyarados. One is to get very lucky and find a shiny magikarp, then evolve it. The second is to get very lucky and find a shiny gyarados on your own.
