Absol: The next Charizard?

From what I can see on the forums, Absol has become hugely popular, IMO more than it deserves. What's worse, it's not just noobs that like it, but emo kids who are like "Oh boo hoo it's an outcast just like me I can relate to it". If it didn't remind me of my beloved friend, I'd outright despise the thing.

So...what's your opinion? Does Absol deserve all the attention it gets?

The reason he's so popular is because he looks badass. Add in the Dark type that most everyone likes, and you've got something that's pretty damn good.

But he's nowhere near as popular as Charizard is/was.. o.o;​

Absol's about the same level of popularity as Houndoom/Arcanine/most other dog pokémon from what I can gather. Meaning, tons of people like tham, but not an amount that could be considered extreme like Charizard. Or at the very least, they're cutting it close.

Personally, I don't understand the appeal of canines, but whatever...

The threads title seems to be right, Absol is the next Charizard for sure because it is powerful like a legendary pokemon, only it's defense is a little low that makes it sure weak against it's weakness, the Fighting types. He looks great too, it is Dark type and there aren't many dark types. Absol is one of the pokemons I like most. And he owes to be that popular.

I think Absol is rather cool looking, though, I don't believe Absol will be "the next Charizard" at all. It does not have such a grand popularity status.

Absol will never be psychotically worshipped by an insane cult like Charizard is. Not everyone who loves Chrizard is nuts, but I'm talking about people like TRA, who insist that Charizard is a usable Pokemon, and in fact better than many of the so called OU Pokemon.
Also, don't diss Absol.

Evanji was probably reffering to Hyper Chibi Absol, who is often regarded as an emo kid.
Although I agree that Absol is *popular*, atleast it isn't worshipped as an 00ber purely because of it's unrealistic status in the anime, and unlike Zard it actually has a liable reason for it's popularity.
It's a decent battler, first off. With massive attack, Sword Dance, and Aerial Ace it can rip Fighting types (which would usually pose a problem) to shreds, and thanks to it's type and Shadow Ball it is one of the best Pokemon for getting rid of pesky ghosts like Dusclops and Gengar.
Sure, Umbreon outclasses it, but it is still a decent Pokemon with potential in battle. I also like it's design and concept alot whereas Charizard; it's one of a zillion boring western dragon designs without any efffort put into it, and ontop of that, has lacklustre stats in all areas but Sp. Attack and Speed and without the movepool to back them up. It falls to Rockslide, Thunderbolt, Surf, and even Ice Beam, all of which are extreamly common moves. And yet n00bs flock before it to kiss it's orange scaly butt. Bleghhh.... Sickening.
Overall, Absol is not on the same level as Charizard in terms of glorification.

People like a pokemon, because of its looks, and use it despite of its stats, and now you say it's the new charizard :O Hardly, because Aasol isn't exactly gloryfied in the anime, charizard is. Absol isn't famous for having the largest most immature and ridicule fanbase, charizard is. I think there is 1 emo kid who says that, and you base a whole point on assuming there are more. Well excuse me, I like absol, because it looks cool, and it has an awesome in-game-movepool, where stats don't matter anyway. So to anwser your question: Yes, I think it gets exactly the attention it deserves, Cool pokemon need love too! not just the metagross and tyranitars :O

KK(your name's too long for a lazy guy like me to type out ) has a point. Unlike our dearest Charizard, Absol can actually hold it's own in battle....for a while. Actually, looking back, Absol's kinda like Charizard. Low Defenses, pretty useless resistances, and needs a lot of setting up to work right =/ So pretty much nevermind on that. However, Absol's Base Attack is incredible, so that rather makes up for it. Its Attack is just extraordinary, no way around it. Does rivalling Kingler, Breloom, Ho-Oh, and Ursaring sound like a good thing to anyone else? :< Still, sub-par Speed and pitiful Defenses pretty much ruin that. Absol's movepool is sadly support-based. Rather like how Gyarados, an obviously Attack-based Pokémon, learns primarily Special Attacks. Or, to keep to the subject, like Charizard, whose Physical movepool is a mixed blessing
Then, there's its STAB. Its special STAB. At least Charizard has one Phys. STAB to work with. Absol has nothing. And thus, it's already somewhat low potential has been lessened =/

Absol's appearance....is interesting enough. Unlike Charizard, you can barely call it unoriginal, so it gets some credit for that. However, it's nothing special. I'd pick Gligar, Glalie, or Poliwrath over it anyday, frankly().

Yeah, Absol's hero-worship is kinda irritating to me as well. It's a bit more justified than Charizard's, granted, but if you compare it to something like Salamence or Heracross.....Meh =/

I don't want to go overboard on the bashing, seeing as Hyper Chibi Absol is a friend of mine. Absol is a decent Pokémon, but it's nothing truly noteworthy. There are perfectly fine Pokémon, like Tauros and Typhlosion, who are every bit as good. perhaps even better, than Absol. But you rarely find fans dedicating their hearts and souls to those two. It's always things like Absol, Charizard, and Mewtwo that get the attention of fans.

Meh, no matter what I think of Absol, it will always come out on top of Umbreon. Even Charizard itself isn't as blatantly overrated as that nocturnal swine ¬_¬ Remind me again what Umbreon actually does in battle Absol is nowhere near as overrated as Umbreon. IMO, this Thread should be changed to focus on Umbreon, because it's more overrated than Charizard and Absol combined =/

I agree with everything he said. Absol just has something about it that draws people to it, the same thing with other pokemon that are just plain cool looking; Umbreon, Flygon, Salamence. It has nothing to do with 'emo kids'. Though it being a Dark type pokemon brings up the subject of 'Gothic' pokemon...but I won't get into that. Absol is a great pokemon, but I think it's far off from ever being as popular as Charizard. Way off. :<

On-topic: Absol has become a hugely popular pokemon and i kind of hate it, but UU and OU play a huge factor in my liking of a pokemon after a while at playing a game.

the biggest difference between a badass like Absol and a badass like Charizard is their porytrail in the anime.

Absol only had one episode where so far where all it does is jump and avoid stuff and show up as an omen of doom or something

every time Charizard appears, it's shown as the strongest pokemon on the planet and most kids assume that anime rules = game rules and assume Charizard is the strongest of pokemon... even though it's really far from the truth.

Both are useable, but Absol I think is better. I've used both and I've had better luck with my Absol due to its killer attack. Plus it looks more interesting

First of all, Absol will Never be the next Charizard/
Just because it got 'popular' it doesn't mean that it be the next charizard.
If it was to become the next charizard my name wouldn't be Abusoru <_<

If Absol becomes the next Charzard, then I'll paint myself green and take a liking to Aipom. In other words, it'll never happen! Absol is nowhere near as populor as 'Zard, as many other people stated already. Unlike 'Zard, Absol acctually can hold it's self in battle, as well as kick some serious *** to boot. 'Zard, meanwhile, can't hold a peice of paper, but with the right moveset he could. In fact, in all my time on Net Battle, I only faced two people who knew how to handle it. The others fell faster than a ton of bricks to my Ursaring's Rock Slide. So, to end my point, Absol will always be better than Charzard, but never be as popular. Now quit yer *****in' (Sorry if this offends anyone).
