Ad-aware is shuting my computer down...

Slypher

Well-Known Member
Recentely, I has been struck by spyware, and even after I use Ad-aware, the same thing keeps poping up and I just can't get rid of the spyware. That's not the only problem, the last time I used Ad-Aware, it will always get 1 modules being detected, and when that happens, this error keeps poping up. If I cancelled it or click OK, my computer just shuts down, and then it restarts. For lack of better words, here is a screenshot of this problem:

http://img217.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitled4ig.gif

So, does anyone know the problem?

DigitalKaede

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO!
Ah...

If you look at the top of the error screen, it says winlogin.exe . This is used for when you do CTRL+ALT+DELETE. Ok, check if winlogin.exe is in the (something like) C:/WINDOWS/System32/ folder. If not, it may be a trojan.

I also suggest Spybot - Search & Destroy to deal with spyware. It's the program I use to take care of spyware and other bugs and it works well.

Also, you should run your cleaning programs at least weekly. It cuts down on problems and how badly they can infect your computer.

Smells a bit like the Netsky worm to me. Try a virus scan.

I recommend you check C:\WINDOWS\system32 for winIogin.exe (with an I, should be easily spotted if you arrange icons by name) and if it exists, you should delete it.
If it has an icon like a standard .exe file (blank blue window like this one:
exe.png
), then it's probably a worm/virus/spyware component.

NOTE: Don't delete winlogin.exe (the one with the icon showing a window with a moon outside) because an essential windows component.

Just checked the C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, and I didn't find any with a capital I, just winlogon.exe.

Here's the log by the way:

Thinking of the "bad" type of those files 0.o...

Well, If that error was that bad, I suggest then getting a free spyware scanner like SpwareBegone! .

Well, I found out what the problem was. Using Ad-aware, I kept it on even though that error was appearing, and apparently, it detected an adware program called Virtumonde. I found a program called Virtumonde Begone and got rid of it. Now, my Ad-aware is not plauged by this problem anymore, and not only that, it got rid of that spyware problem I was having, which was connected with Virtumonde.

Thanks to everyone who helped me, I'm going to find HijackThis useful.
