Advanceshipping General Discussion: Where Ash and May ADVANCE together ;D

Only one more day to answer this topic, so I'll throw in my thoughts...

What did you think of the shippiness in Episode 277: Get the Show on the Road!?

It was a great start for Advanceshippers, and I really don't think we could have asked for more from the first episode of a new series. May was introduced well, her character was clearly and honestly portrayed, and by the end of the episode she had already begun to weave her personality onto Ash. Yes, the bike-frying part was cliche, but I thought it offered a good comparison between May and Misty's two attitudes early on in the series, so this was good to see. While Misty used the bike as an excuse, May was much more brazen and direct.

My favourite part definitely came at the end of the episode when she manipulated Ash into letting her tag along with him, showing that already she knew how to press the right buttons in our intrepid hero :D In my mind I think it's pretty undeniable that she was at least interested in him to some degree in the first episode; whether it was just a fleeting "he's kinda cute..." or a long-lasting crush isn't clear, but I think she definitely had some ulterior motives when she "requested" his services in escorting her to Petalburg City.

As Hunter posted the picture earlier, that "YES!" said all that needed to be said :D

Other favourite parts of the episode Advanceshipping-wise included May spying on Ash and Pikachu and catching the vase before it dropped to the ground, as well as her peeking inside their room when both of them had fallen asleep. Pretty sneaky for May... A shame she didn't remain so sneaky throughout the series, hm?

Well said. I´ll always cherish those two first Hoenn episodes
for their uniqueness and warmth. I loved the idea with just two of them
travelling, and I only wished they´ve had a few more episodes together
before the rest of the gang joined in and watered down the sexual tension.
I´m glad even after all these years with the golden age long behind, these
scenes still come across as cute and shippy, particularly the aforementioned
    part.

I think we pretty much agree on that. The bike incident really was a nice contrast between the female main characters at that point imo. This episode wasn't first episode I saw, but it was this episode that made me interested in the ship. In retrospect I think this episode gave me a bit to high hopes for the canon possibilities of the ship as, imo, the advanceshippy hints where getting less and less during the different seasons. How do you guys think about this? Maybe a new topic idea:

Which season (advanced, challenge, battle, frontier) was the most Advanceshippy to you?
You can think about which part of the Hoenn saga you have the strongest/best memories about. Was it getting more and more exciting or did you feel the later parts couldn't compare with the start?

Interesting concept, I too think things could have been more exciting if we had seen May doing more sneaky stuff. Oh, btw, I really like your new banner ^^

Which episode is the next main topic?

Which season (advance, challenge, battle, frontier) was the most Advanceshippy to you?
To be honest, I think all of them had an equal amount of Advanceshippyness! All of Advanced Generation had plenty of Advanceshipping in each episode, so I really don't think that there's a need to choose. ^_^

Which season (advanced, challenge, battle, frontier) was the most Advanceshippy to you?

In Japan advanced, challenge, battle, frontier are know as just one season: *Pokémon: Advanced Generation Series* so you can't really compare them, but if you see it from the english (or any other dub) side I have to say that battle and frontier was most Advanceshippy :)

And remember even if I don't post that much I'm watching every word that is written here :)

Personally, I think all of them, except Battle Frontier were equal when it comes to Advanceshipping. In fact, in my opinion BF was marked by *shivers* other ship.

It essentially peaked at Battle. Notwithstanding the 9th movie, BF lacked consistent hints. This is not to say that there were no hints, just significantly fewer.

I never thought of that. Imagine the possibilities...

Which season (advanced, challenge, battle, frontier) was the most Advanceshippy to you?

Here is how I am going to put it in perspective. Advanced had that feeling where you get to see a new kind of Pokemon episode. The hints were actually more prominent than past seasons prior to Advanced. Plus, I wish Ash and May had more alone time before Max appears. Oh well.

Challenge had those two episodes where Ash became the hero and saved May who almost faced death (if you call it that). One episode was with the Torkoal and the other was with the grass Pokemon. There are definitely more hints but these are the two I know.

Battle didn't differ much from Challenge but once scene became the stuff of legends. May is catching her boat to her contest but she didn't want to leave her little brother behind. Ash tries to confort her and tells her to go on while he find her brother. The most surprising part in that particular scene, he actually touched May, his two hands on her shoulders. Yeah. A guy like him you would not think he do such gesture, especially to a girl, mind you. That is the first he actually touched a girl that way and it happen to be May. All right, maybe I exaggerated that a bit, but hey, that's what happened.

Frontier didn't do so well in the US. It became a joke. A lot of hints were just thrown around that didn't fit so well in certain scenes, it seemed like the crew were trying to do us a favor. I guess Cartoon Network wanted it to keep running.

To sum all of this up, I can't pick. I like what I like and that's it. If May is supposed to be sneaky, why hasn't she snuck in a kiss on Ash?

She tried to stall Ash from finding out about Norman... Now put that in perspective.

That was quite unexpected, and probably won't happen again. At least he had one go at it.

BF did flop; most of the hints (excluding the ribbon) were irrevelant to the plot. We ought to be grateful for Movie 9 though.

New topic, or we'll be relegated to the second page:

How did you react upon learning that May would appear in D/P? What were your expectations, and what effect did viewing the episodes have on you or the AS fanbase a a whole?

When I first found out, I was thrilled. I was online on JBstormburst's site when I recieved a message on AIM from a user of this site (but I will not mention that user's name, that user may want some privacy.) noticing me of May's Venusaur.
but as a whole, the community is grateful for that episodes, I think.

The whole 4 episodes May was in i think was really good. i missed the contests May were in.

I think overall it was a great episode for us advanceshippers. ^^

I always had the feeling May would make a cameo, but it happened a lot sooner then I expected. Ofcourse I was quite excited when I heared the cameo was official, as May can really give an episode a special vibe. To bad the cameo was pretty short, but the writers actually handled the ash-may relation better then I thought they would. Many times I've seen they just forget about plotdevices (gs ball, anyone?), but they really supprised me in a good way with the whole ribbon scene. Defiantly a good day for the advanceshipping community, that really needed something new at the time.

Which season (advanced, challenge, battle, frontier) was the most Advanceshippy to you?

A hard one... Each of them are filled with Advanceshipping. But, I like the episode in Battle Frontier, where Ash and May cut the ribbon. Maybe that brings the Frontier-saga the most Advanceshippy for me.

I was happy the fact she's doing a reunion with Ash. And a little bit surprised, aswell. It came so quickly for me.
The effect viewing it... My Advanceshipping-love increased. Totally.

Another episode discussion for the next two weeks...

What did you think of the shippiness in Episode 278: A Ruin With a View!?

This episode isn't really renowned for being very shippy, but it did feature a main cast of just Ash and May before they met up with the others, so it allowed a bit more relationship development between the two without a certain someone having to interrupt and ruin it all. It was also the first point in the AG saga where Ash played the hero against something other than Team Rocket, giving May the opportunity to gaze in awe at his courageous nature :D

What did you think of the shippiness in Episode 278: A Ruin With a View!?

As Gazmof said, it gave Ash and May the oportunity to have some screen time for their own.
I like the part when Ash asks who's the Gym Leader, she pushes him out in order to stay with him a little longer.

I can do this on my DS! (I was already able to for a while, but I found a DPG encoder that doesn't result in blurry video.) Images from AG001/Get the Show on the Road. Note: DO NOT try to photograph a TFT LCD screen! It took me several tries to get it right.

Who needs an iPhone when you have this?

What did you think of the shippiness in Episode 278: A Ruin With a View!?

Ash: Hey! Can you tell me who the new Gym Leader is!?
May(pulls him away): Can't you see that I'm starving? Let's go eat.

One of the great moments of that episode. What else would she do to get him alone?

Also, there's the part in the beginning where Ash keeps telling May to walk faster.
