Adventures in Entec

Denjuu

What's the buzz?
The region known as Entec is inhabited by creatures called POKéMON. Many trainers, young and old cherish these creatures as pets, and even use them in battle. Researchers are still trying to grasp the mysteries of POKéMON, and there are many things they do not yet know.

“Wake up, dear! It’s your birthday!”

A boy named Kenni was awakened by his mother, Daisy. He opened his eyes groggily and stared at his mother, who merely smiled at him. “It’s your birthday!” she said again. Kenni was wide awake now. He rose up from the bed. “Oh yeah,” he murmured, “I’m supposed to get my first POKéMON from Prof. Maple.” “Yes! I know you’re excited!” his mother answered. Kenni yawned and a rumbling sound erupted from his stomach. His mother laughed. “Time to eat! Breakfast is already on the table.”

After breakfast, Kenni got himself ready and left the house. He took a deep breath, savoring the morning air. Everything was quiet. Lilypetal Town was pretty small. Nothing much happened to cause a big commotion. He looked toward the lab and went in that direction. Upon reaching the lab, he saw a note on the door: “VISITING A FRIEND. BE RIGHT BACK. -MAPLE”. Kenni sighed. Prof. Maple had a lot of friends. And she was very famous, on the account that Prof. Oak is her uncle. Without knowing what to do, Kenni noticed a grassy route up ahead. So he decided to explore it.

“Who left that there?”

A bag was lying on the grass. Kenni ran to it and inspected it. While doing so, he heard a low snarling sound. Kenni looked up, and the sound ceased. He checked the bag again, and suddenly, from the grass, a small ferret POKéMON leaped out. It was a Ferrenine. “Whoa!” Kenni jumped back, and the Ferrenine charged at him and chased him. “HELP!! HELP!!” Kenni cried, “GET THIS THING AWAY FROM ME!!” The Ferrenine cornered Kenni against a large tree. Kenni was frightened by the creature and cried louder:

“HELLLLLP!!! SOMEBODY HELP!”

Prof. Maple had just left her friend’s house when she heard the cries and rushed to the scene. Daisy also heard the cries. Knowing the voice of her son, she ran to the route along with Maple. They both saw Kenni being confronted by the wild Ferrenine. Daisy watched in horror. Prof. Maple quickly took out a Pecha berry from her pocket and threw it beside the Ferrenine. The POKéMON noticed the fruit and pounced on it. “Kenni!” Maple called, “My bag! In it are three POKéBalls. Use them to battle the Ferrenine!” Kenni cautiously snuck past the Ferrenine and opened the bag. He didn’t know which POKéBall to chose, but he had to pick one quick! He grabbed a random ball and threw it. Out of the POKéBall emerged a small green and brown POKéMON with a leaf on its head. Kenni stared at the small POKéMON with confusion. “That’s Clovut! A Grass-type POKéMON!” Maple called out, “Now use it to battle that Ferrenine!”

Kenni confronted the Ferrenine. The POKéMON looked up at Kenni and snarled. It stood in a battle pose. Kenni smiled. He looked down at the Clovut. The POKéMON seemed ready, and so was he. But something hit him---he didn’t know what kind of attacks this POKéMON knew! He turned to the professor. “Um, excuse me, Professor Maple?” he asked nervously, “What attacks does Clovut know?” Maple explained, “In its beginning levels, Clovut knows Tackle and Razor Leaf. Kenni nodded. Now he was ready.

“Clovut! Razor Leaf!”

A flurry of leaves were blown at the wild Ferrenine. The POKéMON was thrown back. It got to its feet, and quickly dashed toward Clovut striking it. Clovut winced from the hit. “That was a Quick Attack.” Maple said. “Clovut! Shake it off and give it a Tackle!” Kenni ordered. Clovut raced toward Ferrenine and collided into it with a full-bodied Tackle. Despite taking another hit, Ferrenine did not look weak---in fact, it looked angrier than ever! Kenni noticed this. “What’s up with this thing?” he pondered, “It looks stronger than ever!” “It‘s personality” Maple replied, “Ferrenine is an indomitable POKéMON. It’s gutsy. Meaning that it will always keep fighting. No matter how tough the opponent is.” Kenni knew this was trouble. He had to keep attacking it, despite this. It couldn’t keep battling forever! But Ferrenine didn’t reveal any hint of getting weaker. If anything, it looked stronger.

Suddenly the POKéMON charged at Clovut with its claws opened wide. An oncoming attack! “Clovut!” Kenni called to the small Grass-type, “Dodge it! Now!” Clovut jumped to the left, and Ferrenine missed its chance for a hit. Kenni smiled wildly. “Now Tackle it!” he called to it. Clovut tackled the Ferrenine with full force, sending it sliding backwards. Kenni observed the Ferrenine. The POKéMON was panting heavily. It looked done for. Kenni saw a chance to attack again before it could recover.

“Razor Leaf! Here we go!”

But before Clovut could execute the attack, the Ferrenine fled. Kenni watched it run. He couldn’t help laughing. Prof. Maple and Daisy ran to Kenni. His mother embraced him. “Are you OK?” she said, in a trembling voice. “Yeah, of course, mom!” Kenni replied with a smile. “Well, that’s all over,” Maple said, “You’re a great battler, Kenni! Come to my lab later on!”

Boip!
Wow, almost every basic cliche pops right out of the screen at me. The tree professor, the morning start, and of course, the commonity of lacking description is definitly seen often. You may want to add a bit of description, oh, and delete the other thread, you made this TWICE.

What's the buzz?
“Really? I get to keep Clovut?”

“Of course!” Maple replied, “You earned it! I think you battled well with it. Unless you want the other two?” Kenni shook his head violently, “No! No! That’s alright! I‘ll…” He stopped, then said, “Who are the other two?” Maple was about to reply, when a loud booming sound was heard. Someone was beating on the door. “Uh-oh,” Maple said softly, “She’s here.” “Eh?,” Kenni said, perplexed, “Who‘s here?” Without replying, Maple walked to the door and opened it. A girl stomped inside with an irritated expression on her face. “I came REALLY early!” she growled, “I saw that stupid note on the door! So I had to wait two whole hours!!” Then she noticed Kenni. She glared at him, and pointed a finger towards him. “Who is HE??!” she demanded, “I thought I was gonna get first pick!!” Maple sighed. “Well,” she began, “Kenni here got attacked by a Ferrenine on the other route---” “What?!” the girl laughed, “That was pretty stupid of you!” Kenni stared at her. “What?” he asked in an annoyed voice. “Forget it,“ she said, waving her hand, “I’m Shari. And your name is Kenni…?” Kenni simply nodded and smiled. Shari smiled back and replied, “Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m a bad girl, and I can rough you up!” Kenni groaned to himself. This girl was starting to get on his nerves.

Maple released the three starter POKéMON from their balls. Clovut along with two other POKéMON emerged. One POKéMON was a small dog with a flame-like tail. “This is Emby” Maple said, “A Fire-type.” Another was a small blue eel POKéMON. “And this little guy,” Maple said picking up the POKéMON, “is Eeliad, a Water-type! And one of my favorites!” Kenni and Shari looked at the POKéMON. “Well, Clovut is mine,” Kenni declared, “ I called it!” “Well,” Shari said, looking to the Emby, “I’ll choose this one! He’s cute! Like me!” Kenni groaned in annoyance. Not only was this girl conceited, but she was narcissistic. He suddenly looked up at the Eeliad in Maple’s arms. “Why is Eeliad your favorite?” Kenni asked her. Maple smiled. “When Eeliad evolve, “she explained, “They gain Electric-type traits! Pretty unique, huh?” Kenni nodded. Prof. Maple walked to her desk and picked up two small red gadgets. Giving one to Kenni and Shari, she said, “This is a POKéDEX. It’s a personal POKéMON encyclopedia. And with that…” she smiled, ”you are now full-fledged trainers!” She also gave them some POKéBalls to catch POKéMON with and then they were on their way.

“Leaving so soon?”

Kenni was about to leave Lilypetal Town, but was talking to Shari and his mom before doing so. “Yeah,” he replied, “I’m off on my journey. “Take care,” Daisy said. Kenni looked to Shari. When Shari’s eyes met his she quickly stared down at her shoes. Kenni sensed something was wrong. He knew Shari would miss him, even if she didn’t say so. “Wanna come with me, Shari?” he asked, taking her hand. Shari stared at him and sighed. “I guess,” she grumbled. “Aw, that’s sweet,” Daisy said with a smile, “Take care of each other!”

Walking along the route, Kenni couldn’t stop smiling. He was on his first adventure, and he had his first POKéMON. Shari looked at him. Kenni stared back with a huge grin. “What are you grinning about, freak?” Shari asked with a frown. Kenni’s grin faded and he said nothing. They continued to walk. Suddenly, he stopped. Shari turned to him. “What is with you?” she asked him. Kenni grinned again and took out the POKéBall with Clovut inside. “I think I’ll let Clovut get some fresh air.” he said, and with that, he threw the ball, releasing Clovut. The small POKéMON looked around at the surroundings. “Hmph,” Shari snorted, “That a pretty good idea.” She followed suit and released her Emby. The dog-like POKéMON yapped happily and sniffed the air. Kenni began to grin again, but it was short-lived when Shari reprimanded him: “Stop that freakish grinning, you dolt.” Kenni laughed for some reason. “I can’t help it,” he said, ”I just feel so alive! I feel really happy!” Shari nodded slowly. She looked up ahead and saw a small lump in the grass. She stopped walking and pointed up ahead. “What is that?” she asked. The small “lump” hopped out of the grass. It was a small bird-like POKéMON with brown plumage. It stared at the two trainers and squawked: “SWALL! SWALL! SWALLARK!” Excited, Kenni took out his POKéDEX and scanned the wild POKéMON: “Swallark,” the machine beeped, “The Baby Lark POKéMON. Being young, Swallark’s wings are undeveloped. They will rarely fly, but hop to get around.” Putting away the POKéDEX, Kenni decided to catch this POKéMON. “OK, Clovut!” he called to his POKéMON, “Let’s go---” “STOP!” Shari shouted. Kenni looked at her, bewildered. “What??” he asked her. “Are you stupid?” she asked him bluntly, “Clovut is a Grass-type. Swallark is a Flying-type. Your Clovut will get creamed!” Kenni grumbled. He didn’t know about type disadvantages and advantages. “I’ll catch it,” Shari said with a smile. Kenni said nothing.

“Emby!” Shari called to the small Fire-type, “Use Ember!” Kenni was astonished. She actually knew what kind of attacks her POKéMON could use. Emby sprayed small flames from its mouth at Swallark. The bird POKéMON hopped to one side and successfully avoided it. Shari waited for the POKéMON to attack, but it did nothing. It just stared at Emby vacantly. “Let’s try Tackle!” Shari ordered. The Fire-type POKéMON charged at Swallark. The Swallark hopped out of Emby’s way, and it missed again. Kenni laughed and Shari let out a roar, which shut Kenni up. In a rage, Shari took out her POKéBall and threw it at the Swallark. This time, the POKéMON did not hop away from the ball, and it was successfully pulled into the ball. The POKéBall wobbled for some time, but eventually stopped. Swallark was caught. Both Shari and Kenni were dumbfounded. “That was….er….easy…” Shari said.

Both of them arrived at the next town, Beautyrose Town and entered the POKéMON Center. Many trainers were conversing amongst themselves and Shari went to the counter to get her POKéMON checked. Kenni sat at a table with three other trainers: two boys and a girl. “Check out my Cocoon Badge!” a boy said, flashing a small green badge. “From Bailey?,” the girl asked staring at it, “That bug fanatic?” “Yeah!” the boy replied with a smile, “He was so easy! My Swallark beat up his bugs!” The girl yawned. “Anyone can beat Bailey!” she said, “Just catch a Swallark, train it, then use it for the entire battle! A guaranteed win!” “I might go back to Safflower City,” said a boy who was silent until now. The girl looked at him. “Why?” she asked. “It’s a big city,” the boy replied, “I like big cities.” Kenni was listening to this entire conversation. “Safflower City?” he asked. The three trainers stared at him. “Yes,” the girl replied with a frown, “Never been there?” Kenni shook his head. “This is my first real adventure,” he answered, “Anyway, about this Bailey. He uses Bug-types?” The trainers nodded. “Then I need to get a Swallark.” Kenni stated. “What kind of POKéMON do you have?” one of the boys asked. Looking back, Kenni saw his Clovut standing idly. He pointed to it. “There,” he said, “That’s my Clovut.” The trainers observed it. When Shari came to the table, she noticed the three trainers. “Who are you?” she asked. “I’m Zack” said one of the boys. “I’m his brother, Kei.” said the other boy. “My name is Trixie.” said the girl.

“Cocoon Badge?”

Shari observed Zack’s badge while he smiled pompously. Shari glared at him and dropped the badge on the tabletop. “Meh,” she said, “Not much of an achievement.” Zack was surprised at her words. “What do you mean?!” he asked her, “That’s a REAL achievement!” “You are very stupid,” Shari said to him, “You’re beating your chest with pride and you’ve only beat the first gym leader.” she passed the badge to him and said, “Come back when you’ve beat the eighth, OK?” Zack took the badge without speaking. Trixie perked up. “Yeah! I agree with Shari!” she told him. “You’re acting like you’ve beat them all! Like I said before---ANYONE can beat Bailey!” Kenni leapt up from his seat. “I’ve gotta get a Swallark!” he cried. “You can have mine!” Shari said with a smile. Kenni looked at her. “Really?” he asked. He almost grinned, but he did not want her to change her mind. “Yeah,” she replied. “You’ll need it for your gym battle!” “Hey!,“ Trixie asked, “Have you ever heard of POKéMON Contests?” Shari nodded. “They’re awesome!” Trixie said, “You can blend berry juice with milk to make smoothies that you give to your POKéMON to drink.” Shari smiled and nodded. She took out from her pocket, the POKéBall that Swallark was inside and gave it to Kenni. “There you go! Enjoy it!” she said.

After leaving the POKéMON Center, Kenni and Shari were about to leave Beautyrose Town, when they saw two trainers battling. One trainer had a Ferrenine, while his opponent had a small green worm POKéMON. “Looks interesting,” Shari said, “Shall we watch?” Nodding, Kenni took out his POKéDEX and scanned the Manstal. “Manstal”, the device beeped, “The Larva POKéMON. Manstal spends much of its time eating to prepare for evolution. The barbs on its body are used as a defense mechanism.” “Ferrenine!” the trainer called out to his POKéMON, “Fury Swipes!” The Ferrenine slashed at Manstal repeatedly, causing serious damage on the worm-like POKéMON. The Manstal’s trainer had a worried look on his face. “Manstal!” he called to his POKéMON, ”Poison Sting!” Manstal fired barbs from its mouth at Ferrenine. The Ferrenine was hit directly and was thrown down. It tried to get up, but something seemed to be wrong with it. “Oh no!” its trainer cried, “It’s poisoned!!” Without any strength left, the Ferrenine fainted. The trainer took out his POKéBall and pointed it to the motionless Ferrenine. A beam of red light enclosed the POKéMON, and pulled it inside the ball. He looked to his opponent. “You’re good, Shawn!” he said, “But I still got one more POKéMON left! Go---” “Excuuuuse me!” Shari said with an annoyed tone, “But you two are blocking this route!” The trainer looked at her and replied, “You have to wait, girl. Anyway, go---” “Please move,” Shari said in a low voice, which became louder, “Or I’LL move you!!” The trainer stared at her and walked away.

“Wow, you’re scary….”

Walking across this new route, Kenni could spot many trainers either battling each other or battling a wild POKéMON. “Am I?” Shari replied, “Thanks!” Kenni was about to say something when he looked up and saw something---a POKéMON--- swaying on a tree branch. “Hey, look up there!” he said, pointing. The POKéMON was of a green color with large yellow eyes. It had flat purple wings at rotated about the POKéMON’s head. Shari took out her POKéDEX. “Tetun--the Levitate POKéMON,” the POKéDEX blared, “ A Tetun rotates its wings to levitate in mid-air. Their large glowing eyes are a frightening sight to see in the dark.” Shari smiled as she looked up at the POKéMON. “TETUN! TETUN!” she called, waving her arms. Kenni grabbed her arms. “What are you doing?!” he scolded. “Wanna scare it away??!!” But the Tetun was not frightened. It floated down from the tree and in front of Shari. “Tet……” the POKéMON whispered, “Tetun….Tet…” Shari took out a POKéBall. “I’m gonna catch it!” she declared, and she threw her POKéBall, releasing her Emby.

“Tackle!”

Emby rushed at the POKéMON and tackled it with full force, but Tetun seemed to be unaffected. Shari was confused, then looked to her POKéDEX. “Oh,” she said nervously, “Tetun is part Ghost and part Flying. So I guess a Normal attack like Tackle won’t work…” It was Tetun’s turn to attack, and it fired a black ball that hit Emby. “Yikes! Shadow Ball!” Shari commented, “Emby! Use Ember!” Emby fired embers at the Ghost-type, hitting it critically. Tetun’s wings began to glow and it charged at Emby. “A Wing Attack!” Shari said, “Dodge it!” Emby jumped out of the way, and the Tetun slammed straight into a tree. “It must’ve taken damage from THAT!” Kenni said, “Try to catch it!” Shari took out a POKéBall and threw it at the inert POKéMON. It was pulled into the ball, and successfully caught.

What's the buzz?
“Congrats!” Kenni praised Shari as she cradled the POKéBall. Suddenly, a finger from an outstretched hand tapped Kenni on the back. He turned around to find a small boy wearing a backwards cap. “May I help you? Kenni asked him. The boy smirked. “You’re a trainer, right?” he asked. Kenni nodded slowly, not knowing where this was headed. “You’ve gotta battle me then!” he said. Kenni smirked as well. “Sure!” he said, pulling out his POKéBall, “since I only have two POKéMON, we use two and two only!” The boy took out his POKéBall. “OK!” he said, and threw his ball. Kenni did so as well. From the boy’s POKéBall emerged a small bird-like POKéMON with swirling eyes. A Whirlly. From Kenni’s POKéBall emerged his Swallark. Shari observed the Whirlly and scanned it with her POKéDEX---”Whirly, the Large Beak POKéMON. Whirlly uses its large beak to crack open nuts that it eats for food. It’s swirling eyes can daze and confuse an opponent when it looks directly at them.” The battle was commencing. “Swallark!” Kenni began to order, but he didn’t know what kind of attacks this POKéMON could use. He took out his POKéDEX for help. The boy looked at him. “You don’t know what attacks it uses?” he asked, “That’s pretty dumb of you…” Kenni ignored him, and read the attacks: “Peck, Quick Attack, Wing Attack and Speedy Wing. “ His eyes grew large. Speedy Wing sounded cool! “Swallark! Speedy Wing!” he ordered. But Swallark did not do anything. Kenni sighed. “It doesn’t know that attack yet.” the boy said. “Fine!” Kenni said, frustrated, “Quick Attack!” Swallark dashed toward Whirlly, striking it. “Whirlly!” the boy said to his POKéMON, “Use Peck!” Whirlly ran toward Swallark to peck it. “Dodge it!” Kenni commanded. The POKéMON hopped to one side, and Whirlly ran past it and missed. “Drats!” the boy hollered, “Use Dizzy Daze!” Whirlly stared at Swallark hypnotically. “Dizzy Daze?” Kenni said to himself, bewildered. “Um, Kenni?” Shari called out, “Look at Swallark!” Kenni looked to his POKéMON. The poor Swallark was teetering in confusion. Kenni was aghast. “Ack! Swallark! Snap out of it!” Kenni said to it. Then, as if only those words could cure it, Swallark was confused no more! “Wow,” the boy said amazed, “that‘s awesome. But my Whirlly is still awesome! Whirlly! Gust!” The bird POKéMON opened its mouth and a raging gust was released. Swallark was blown back by the intense gale. “Oh yeah?” Kenni sneered, “Swallark! Quick Attack followed by Wing Attack!” Swallark dashed toward Whirlly, giving it damage again, and, before it could recover, charged into it with wings spread wide. Whirlly was sent tumbling and fainted. Grumbling, the boy returned it to its POKéBall.

“Go! Chrysapod!”

The boy threw his second ball, and from it, a round, green pupa-like POKéMON was released. Kenni scanned it with his POKéDEX: “Chrysapod, the pupa POKéMON. The evolution of Manstal. Chrysapod stays immobile, while developing for evolution. To prevent getting cramps, this POKéMON occasionally moves about.” Kenni looked at the Chrysapod. It did not look very fast, and seemed like a bad choice for this battle. Kenni decided to let his Clovut take the stage. He returned his Swallark to its POKéBall, and released his Clovut. The boy smiled at the small Grass-type POKéMON. “Yes!” he said in glee, “Now I have the advantage! Chrysapod is a Bug-type! It will devour your little Grass-type!” Kenni gazed at the Chrysapod again. “Not likely,” he said smoothly, “That thing only knows Harden.” The boy looked nervous now. Kenni knew he had the advantage instead so he decided to strike hard and strong. “Tackle! Full power!” he commanded. Clovut collided into Chrysapod with a hardcore tackle. “Harden!” the boy ordered, “Keep your defenses up!” Chrysapod’s body seem to shine as it performed its Harden attack. Kenni didn’t see what good it would do, as the POKéMON didn’t attack. “Clovut!” he called, “Tackle!” Clovut tackled Chrysapod causing more damage. “HARDEN!” the boy commanded again, “HARDEN! HARDEN! HARDEN!” Chrysapod hardened itself, but did not attack. Kenni groaned. This was pointless. He ordered Clovut to tackle Chrysapod once more and won the battle.

“Well, that was pretty easy!”

“Don’t act so smug, OK?” Shari told him. Kenni waved his hands innocently. “I’m not acting smug! I’m just congratulating myself!” Shari rolled her eyes. Kenni then noticed a man standing in the middle of the road. “Who is that?” he wondered. “Not sure,” Shari answered. When the two walked past him, he caught sight of them. “You two!” he called to them. Kenni and Shari turned to him. “You two are trainers, no doubt,” he said, “Here. Take this map!” Kenni took the map, and scanned it. “Cool!” he finally said. “Glad you like it!” the man said with a smile, “Good day!” And with that, he left. Kenni pointed to a spot on the map. “There’s Safflower City! Straight up ahead!” Excited, Kenni took off running in the direction of the city, with Shari catching up with him. They arrived at Safflower City in the evening. “What time is it?” Shari asked. “I don’t know, but it’s late,” Kenni replied with a yawn, “Let’s find someplace to rest for the night.” Shari pointed to a POKéMON Center up ahead. “We can try there!” she suggested.

Kenni was awakened by a sharp stinging on his cheek. He quickly sat up on his bed to rub his cheek and noticed Shari beside him, grinning. “Did...did…you…”Kenni stuttered, “Did you just smack my face?” Shari burst out laughing. “WOW! You were really asleep! I slapped you five times!” Kenni rubbed his sore cheek. “Man,” he grumbled, “Normal people would just whisper your name or rock you gently.” Shari turned to leave the room. “I’m not normal,” she said. Kenni rose from the bed, “You’ve got THAT right” he muttered. Shari spun around. “What did you say?” she asked. Kenni shook his head. “Nothing” he replied. Shari stepped closer. “What did you say?” she asked again, but in a deeper, dangerous tone of voice. Kenni tried to walk past her. “Nothing! Nothing!” he kept saying. But Shari blocked him. Kenni felt himself trembling. What was her problem? Suddenly, Shari stepped closer to him and said, “Watch it, buddy. I’m a bad girl, and I’m really tough. Watch yourself.” She suddenly smiled. “Now let’s go get some breakfast, shall we?” she said more cheerfully.

“What’s wrong?”

Kenni had been silent ever since they left the POKéMON Center. “N-nothing,” he stammered. Shari put her arm around his neck. “I know what it is,” she said, “This morning. You thought I was gonna murder you on the spot, huh?” Kenni shook his head slowly. Shari laughed. “Sure it was!” she said, “But still, I’m bad and I’m tough. So be careful around me.” Kenni nodded. “Isn’t that the gym?” Shari asked him, motioning toward a semi-large building. Kenni was not sure, so he walked toward it. Sure enough, there was an engraving that said, “SAFFLOWER CITY GYM- LEADER: BAILEY (THE BUG POKéMON FANATIC)”. Kenni waved at Shari, and he went inside. The gym was very standard. A simple battlefield---but covered with tall grass. Kenni looked around. No one was in sight. “Hello?” he called. He thought he heard a moan. “Hello??” he called but louder. The moaning was louder. “YO! IS ANYONE HERE??” he shouted. Suddenly, a person rose from the grassy arena. It was a boy. He was wearing a baseball cap and wore a large red t-shirt imprinted with a ladybug emblem with baggy jeans.

“Are you the gym leader?”

The boy nodded, and walked towards him. “Sorry about that,” he said, “I sometimes sleep on the grass. But yeah, I’m the gym leader---Bailey! The Bug Fanatic!” At this time, Shari happened to walk into the gym and joined Kenni. She looked at Bailey. “Hmph,” she snorted, “You’re the so-called Bug Fanatic?” Bailey smiled hesitantly. “Yeah, I am” he replied. Shari smiled to Kenni. “Do your best!” she said, “Don’t lose, or you’re dead!” “Darn it!” Bailey suddenly shouted. “I don’t have a referee.” “Stupid, stupid boy,” Shari mumbled, “I’ll be your ref.” “Um, thanks,” Bailey said, “The other kid who used to do it is away for the week and---” “I don’t care,” Shari interrupted. “Let’s go!” The gym battle commenced.

What's the buzz?
“The gym battle between Leader Bailey and the Trainer, Kenni will now begin. Each of you will use one POKéMON each with the challenger allowed to change POKéMON. Are you two ready? BEGIN!”

Bailey threw a POKéBall, which released a Manstal. Kenni smiled and threw out one of his POKéBalls releasing his Swallark. Bailey smiled, “Another Swallark,” he said, “Seen lots of them before. Anyway, you take the first hit!” Kenni nodded. “Swallark,” he began, “use Quick Attack!” Swallark dashed toward Manstal, striking it and causing damage. The Manstal was thrown backwards by the collision. “Manstal!” Bailey commanded, “Use Swarm!” Manstal got up and summoned what appeared to be an entire horde of Manstals! Kenni was at lost about how to attack now. But he had to do something. So, Kenni ordered his POKéMON: “Swallark! Wing Attack!” The Swallark spread its wings wide and flew into the swarm of Manstals, causing a small explosion. A small cloud of dust billowed from the spot where Swallark hit the Manstals. Kenni tensed up. What happened to Swallark? But suddenly, the bird POKéMON flew out of the cloud, and the smoke cleared up, revealing a single knocked out Manstal. “Manstal is unable to battle,” Shari declared, “Swallark wins!”

Bailey withdrew Manstal into its POKéBall. He did not say anything, but threw his second ball. A ladybug POKéMON emerged from the ball. Kenni took out his POKéDEX and looked up this POKéMON: “Ledyba, the Five Star POKéMON. Ledyba migrate in swarms, moving to suitable nesting grounds. These POKéMON are attracted to flowers and will even pollinate them as they move along.” Kenni withdrew his Swallark, and released his Clovut. Bailey had a confused look on his face. “A Grass-type?” he said, “Why a Grass-type?” But he shook his head and then said, “Never mind. Ledyba! Tackle!” The POKéMON charged at Clovut. Kenni smiled. “Clovut!” he ordered his POKéMON, “Blow it back with Razor Leaf!“ Clovut blew out a flurry of leaves at Ledyba, hitting it head-on. “Now Clovut!” Kenni ordered, “Tackle!” Clovut struck Ledyba with a Tackle. “Ledyba!“ Bailey commanded, “Comet Punch!“ Ledyba flew towards Clovut with a Comet Punch, but Clovut dodged. Kenni then took out his POKéDEX and scanned Clovut. Smiling, he ordered: “Clovut! Use Yawn!” Clovut obeyed and yawned, releasing a bubble from its mouth, which hit Ledyba. Nothing happened for the moment, but Ledyba started to fall asleep.

“Ledyba! Wake up!”

No use. Ledyba was fast asleep. Now Kenni saw his chance! “Clovut!” he ordered, “Use Headbutt!” Clovut raced toward the sleeping Ledyba and struck it with a direct Headbutt, knocking it out. “Ledyba is unable to battle,” Shari declared, “Clovut wins!” Withdrawing his Ledyba, Bailey said to Kenni. “Usually, around this time, a challenger would start to become conceited. But this POKéMON…” he held up a POKéBall, “…always teaches them a lesson! I saved the best for last! Kazehanto! C‘mon!” And with that, he threw the POKéBall. A large butterfly POKéMON emerged. It’s shape and form was almost human-like. Kenni, amazed, scanned it with his POKéDEX: “Kazehanto, the Swallowtail POKéMON. Kazehanto releases a sparkling dust when it flies. Because of their human-like form, they are often mistaken for fairies.” Kenni looked at the POKéMON. The POKéDEX was right---it looked like a large fairy. He took a deep breath. “OK, Clovut,” he said to his POKéMON, ”this is it. His last POKéMON! Let’s make this count! Razor Leaf!”

Clovut released a flurry of leaves. “Kazehanto! Dodge it!” Bailey ordered. The POKéMON flew through the leaves unharmed. Kenni was awestruck. “Wing Attack!” he ordered again. Kazehanto dove down toward Clovut with glowing wings. “Clovut! Get out of the way!” Kenni shouted to it. The small Grass-type barely managed to avoid the POKéMON as it swooped past. “Now! Gust!” Bailey commanded. Kazehanto flapped its wings, whipping up a powerful wind. Clovut tried to stand sturdy, but the gust was becoming too strong. Suddenly, another order rang out from Bailey: “Magic Dust!” Kazehanto then released a shimmering dust from its wings. When the dust came in contact with Clovut, it began to tilt uncontrollably. The Magic Dust attack had made Clovut confused!

“Swarm, followed by Wing Attack!”

Kazehanto summoned multiple clones of itself, before swooping down with a Wing Attack on Clovut. The swarm of POKéMON struck Clovut, causing serious damage and knocking it out as well. “Clovut is unable to battle,” Shari declared, “Kazehanto wins!” Disappointed, Kenni returned Clovut to its POKéBall. He then threw the POKéBall with Swallark inside, releasing it. “Swallark!” Kenni said to the bird POKéMON, “That’s the POKéMON that defeated your partner, Clovut! Let’s avenge Clovut! Wing Attack!” “Use Wing Attack as well!” Bailey commanded his POKéMON. The swarm of Kazehanto darted toward the single Swallark, both preparing for a Wing Attack. Both POKéMON collided in an explosion. Dust covered both battlers. Kenni was worried about his Swallark again. How could it go up against a SWARM of bug POKéMON for a second time? Suddenly, something fell out of the dust. It was too big to be Swallark---it was Bailey’s Kazehanto. It fell to the grassy arena, unmoving. Swallark flew from the cloud and down to the arena. Shari looked at the Kazehanto. She knew it was over. “Kazehanto is unable to battle,” Shari began, but the Kazehanto started to get up. It got to its feet, ready to fight again. Bailey sighed. “It’s no use,” he said, “Kazehanto took more damage from that head-on collision with your Swallark.” Kenni knew Bailey was already declaring him winner. Bailey withdrew Kazehanto. “I forfeit,” he said, “You win.”

“Here you go. A Cocoon Badge!”

Bailey presented Kenni with the Cocoon Badge and soon (after visiting the POKéMON Center of course), he and Shari left Safflower City and were on another route. “I’m so happy you won!” Shari said gleefully. “Thanks!” Kenni said. “I wonder how tough the second gym leader is. How many are there?” “Eight” Shari replied. “Defeat all eight and you have to go up against the Elite Team.” “Sounds tough,” Kenni said. A forest was up ahead, and without hesitation, they entered. It was very dark inside the forest. The trees were so high, they blocked the sunlight. Manstals and Chrysapods could be seen in the trees. Shari, remembering how beautiful the Kazehanto Bailey owned was, decided to catch a Manstal. “Help me find one!” she asked Kenni. “Help you FIND one?!” Kenni repeated, “There are Manstals all OVER the place!” Shari looked about, and Manstals were hanging in every direction. One particular Manstal was crawling along the forest floor, and Shari spotted it. “Hey!” she called excitedly, “There’s one!” Shari threw her POKéBall, sending out Tetun. The Manstal stopped and stared up at Shari. “Tetun,” Shari said, “Use Shadow Ball!” Tetun threw a black ball at the Manstal. The wild POKéMON retaliated with a Tackle, but it did not affect Tetun. “Tetun! Another Shadow Ball!” Shari ordered. With that Shadow Ball, the Manstal was knocked out and Shari used her POKéBall to capture it.

“Vulcant, the Fire Ant POKéMON. Vulcant live in colonies of up to 1,000,000 members. They can work together to overcome any opponent. One is always backed up by others.”

Kenni had found a small red ant-like POKéMON, Vulcant and wanted to catch it. After all, it was a good combination of the Bug and Fire types. “Swallark!” Kenni ordered his POKéMON, “use Quick Attack followed up by Wing Attack!” Both attacks severely damaged the wild Vulcant, leaving it immobilized. Kenni knew it was time to capture it and threw a POKéBall. It was successfully captured. Kenni picked up the POKéBall and cradled it. “OK,” Shari began, “We both have new POKéMON. What an achievement, huh?” “Yes,” Kenni answered blandly, “an achievement. And I think it would be an even better achievement if we got out of this forest…” Shari nodded and they both tried to find the exit. Upon leaving the forest, they found two hooded men in purple cloaks stopped them.

“YOU TWO! Give us your POKéMON!” one of them bellowed. Kenni was puzzled. “Are you serious?” he asked. “Give us your POKéMON!” the man said again. “Who are you?” Shari demanded. The two men looked at each other. One of them answered: “We are members of Team Dark. That’s all for you kids to know. Give us your POKéMON and we will let you go. Otherwise, go back to where you came from!” “What?” Kenni said, “You can’t do this!!” “I believe we can,” one of them said, “If you want to pass, the fee is---ALL OF YOUR POKéMON!” Kenni quickly hated these two Team Dark members. “I’m not giving you my POKéMON,” he refused. The two men looked at each other. “Then you must leave,” one of them said. Kenni did not move. Neither did Shari. “We’re not going anywhere!” Shari said with a smirk, “Why don’t you make us?” The two men held up their POKéBalls. “We shall make you, then!” one of them said. “A double battle it will be,” the other said. “Double battles?” Kenni asked with a confused face. “Just follow my lead, Kenni” Shari told him.

The men threw their POKéBalls. From one POKéBall emerged a small cat-like POKéMON---a Meowth. From the other emerged a Ferrenine. Kenni scanned the Meowth: “Meowth, the Scratch Cat POKéMON. Meowth is known to collect coins it finds lying about. They are fascinated by any shiny objects that catch their eye” Kenni threw on of his POKéBalls, releasing his Clovut. Shari threw her POKéBall, and Manstal was released. “Meowth!” one of the men ordered, “Use Scratch!” “Ferrenine!” the other man ordered , “use Scratch as well!” Both POKéMON charged at Clovut and Manstal ready to use a Scratch attack. “Clovut!” Kenni said to his POKéMON, “Use Razor Leaf!” “Manstal!” Shari called to her POKéMON, “add some Poison Sting to the mix!” Clovut sent out Razor Leaf while Manstal shot Poison Sting. Both attacks, hit their targets, and Meowth and Ferrenine was blown back. “Meowth! Pay Day!” ordered a man. “Ferrenine! Fury Swipes!” the other ordered. Meowth threw coins at both POKéMON, dealing some damage, and Ferrenine closed in for Fury Swipes. “Clovut!” Kenni ordered, “YAWN!’ “Manstal!” Shari ordered, “Use Poison Sting again!” Clovut’s yawn put both POKéMON to sleep and Manstal’s Poison Sting dealt damage. Kenni was about to command another attack, when the men drew their POKéMON back. “We’ve wasted too much time!” one of them grumbled. “Yes,” the other agreed. “You kids can go. I’m sure we’ll meet up with you later. If you see any members of Team Light, tell them that we shall become the dominant organization and thwart them!” Then they left. “Team Dark,” muttered Kenni, “and Team Light. Looks like we’ll be seeing more of them.”

Kenni and Shari arrived in Petunia Town, a town famous for its flower gardens and berry shrubs. Shari was taken by the sweet aromas. So much, that she would periodically stop to enjoy the scents. “I thought you were tough,” Kenni teased, “Tough girls don’t like flowers.” Shari struck him on the back of his head. “Yes we do.” she argued. Kenni shrugged. Shari wandered about, smelling and picking flowers and fruit. Kenni sat on a bench and watched her. She seemed to have a different personality with all of these flowers around her. “Maybe she’ll won’t be so tough anymore,” Kenni thought. Shari came back, with two small baskets. One full of flowers and one full of fruit. Kenni looked at them. “Wow,” he said surprised, “I didn’t know you had that kind of style.” Shari glared at him. Then she smiled. “I do,” she said softly, “I do. Please watch it with the smart talk.” Kenni shook his head. “Smart talk?” he asked naively, “What smart talk?”

After “stocking up” on fruits and flowers, Kenni and Shari left Petunia Town. Shari could not stop sniffing the flowers. “They smell so sweet,” she said. “I can imagine,” Kenni said. Shari handed him a Pecha Berry. “Here” she said, handing him the fruit, “try it.” Kenni took the Pecha Berry and bit into it. His eyes grew large. It was a very sweet fruit. He licked his lips. “It’s sweet,” he said, “Really good! What other berries do you have?” Shari checked her bag. “I have,” she began, “Pecha, Oran, Rawst, Sitrus, and this….” She pulled out a rather large blue berry with green blotches. “This one is called a Gradon Berry. It’s very delicious and has a smooth taste. And the blue juice is really refreshing! I used to drink a glass of Gradon juice every morning when I was little.” Kenni suddenly remembered something. “Juice,” he muttered, “Hey, didn’t that girl, Trixie say you can mix berry juice with milk to make POKéMON Smoothies?” Shari nodded. “Yeah, she said that,” she replied, “I wonder how it’s done.” Pulling out another Pecha berry, Shari bit into it. Kenni stopped. “Look!“ he said pointing toward a small lake, “Those POKéMON!” In the lake were a group of shrimp-like POKéMON. Taking out her POKéDEX, Shari scanned the wild POKéMON: “Shrimpish, the Baby Shrimp POKéMON. Shrimpish are bottom-feeders. They find food with their long sensible antennae and eat using their claws.“ Shari looked at the group of Shrimpish. There was a particularly small one. Shari approached it. When she did, the Shrimpish spewed out a mass of bubbles. Shari laughed. “This one is cute!” she said. She turned to Kenni, who was flipping through a book. “I remembered getting this guidebook from the POKéMON Center in Beautyrose, but I forgot I had it. “ he flipped through the pages, “Aha! Here is the route we are in! This is a Shrimpish Catching Route!” Shari became interested. “Shrimpish Catching?” she asked. Kenni read more: “This route is famous for the many Shrimpish that inhabit it. Catch as many as you like, but watch out for any Lobstar!” “Lobstar?” Shari asked. She checked her POKéDEX: “Lobstar, the Crustacean POKéMON. Lobstar are the evolved form of Shrimpish. These POKéMON are aggressive and will even fight for food. Their exoskeleton is tough as steel, and can withstand multiple attacks.” Shari grinned wildly. “Wow!” she exclaimed, “Lobstar are both Water and Steel types! I’ve gotta catch me a Shrimpish so it will evolve!” She took out a POKéBall and threw it, releasing her Manstal. “Manstal! Poison Sting!” she commanded. The Manstal fired poisonous barbs at the small Shrimpish. The Shrimpish fired a Bubblebeam, deflecting the Poison Sting. “One more time!” Shari ranted. Manstal fired another Poison Sting, which was, again, deflected by Bubblebeam. Angry, Shari withdrew Manstal, and sent out Tetun. “Wing Attack!” Shari commanded it. Tetun charged at Shrimpish with glowing wings. The attack hit, sending Shrimpish flying. Shari threw a POKéBall at the Shrimpish, capturing it. She turned to Kenni, who looked up from the book, smiling.

“This is Birch Town…”

“What does the guidebook say about Birch Town?” Shari asked Kenni. Kenni looked at the book: “Hmmm…well, its called “The City of Nature. Let’s see…the gym leader uses Grass-types. Her name is Florence.” “Florence,” Shari repeated, “OK, what’s her badge?” Kenni scanned the pages. “Petal Badge,” he answered. “You might have an advantage,” Shari told him, “You have Swallark, a Flying-type and Vulcant, a Bug and Fire-type!” Kenni nodded. She was right. After leaving the POKéMON Center, Kenni noticed a man in a purple hood and cloak. “Shari,” Kenni whispered, “Look at that guy. You think he is a Team Dark member?” Shari nodded and whispered back, “Maybe. He has that same ‘D’ printed on his hood--like those two guys who stopped us earlier. But let‘s head to the gym.” Kenni nodded, and they both rushed to the gym. Unfortunately, it was locked. There was a note on the door: “CAN’T BATTLE TODAY. IF YOU WANT TO SEE ME, I’M IN THE CABIN. -FLORENCE”

“Cabin?”

“Look!” Shari beckoned toward a small log cabin. Without hesitation, they went inside. Sure enough, Florence was there along with a small, green POKéMON. Kenni took out his POKéDEX. “Bulbeed,” the device beeped, “ The Seed POKéMON. Bulbeed enjoys soaking up the suns rays. This POKéMON gains nutrients and becomes stronger just by being exposed to the sun.” Kenni looked at the Bulbeed. The POKéMON looked sick. “Are you the gym leader?” he asked Florence. Florence nodded. “Yes,” she replied grimly, “But I’m not going to battle anyone today. My poor Bulbeed is sick.” The Bulbeed let out a tiny sneeze. “Do you know how to cure it?” Shari asked. “I think so,” Florence replied, “I think the juice from the Medi Berry can cure it. But I can only find that kind of berry in Petunia Town. I can’t leave my poor Bulbeed alone.” Kenni looked at Shari. “Hey, Shari,” he began, “Did you happen to pick up any Medi Berries while we were there?” “No,” Shari replied picking up a Rawst Berry, “but maybe your Bulbeed can eat some of these berries to keep up its health.” Florence looked gratefully at Shari. “Thank you,” she said, “I appreciate it. But I still need that Medi Berry” Shari gave the sick Bulbeed a Rawst Berry. “Maybe Kenni can go get it,” she suggested. Kenni shook his head in disagreement. “Wait! No!” he protested, “I’m not much of a berry expert! Shari’s the professional on that!” Shari glared at Kenni. “You will go, yes?” she asked.

Kenni grumbled on his way back to Petunia Town. Leave it to a girl to put the hard work on a boy. But at least he was doing this for a good cause. Arriving at Petunia Town, the inspected all of the berries. He did not really know how the Medi Berry looked like. Remembering his guidebook, he took it out. Flipping through the pages, he found an excerpt on the Medi Berry: “This rare, elusive berry can cure any sickness, ailment or disease.” Beside this excerpt was a picture of the fruit. Now all Kenni had to do was find a white and red fruit. But this was difficult. It seemed as if he searched every tree, but couldn’t find it. An old woman walked past him. Kenni decided to ask her for help. “Excuse me,” he called to her. The woman turned to him. “Do you know where I can find a Medi Berry?” Kenni asked. The woman thought for a moment, then said: “I think one of the girls at the Berry Shop has it up for auction.” She pointed to a small store.

“I have this rare Medi Berry up for sale…”

Kenni arrived just in time. The girls were auctioning the Medi Berry! He had to get a high amount. But he did not know how much money he had in his savings. Bids were flying fast. Kenni didn’t know what to do. He simply shot his hand up and announced: “All the money I have!!” Everyone looked at him. It seemed strange that someone would use all his money for a piece of fruit! Kenni felt humiliated, but then said, “Florence in Birch Town has a sick Bulbeed, so I need this fruit.” The girls smiled. “Florence is my sister,” she said smiling, “How nice of you to do that! I‘m sorry folks, but I really have to give it to him.” No more biddings came, and so Kenni paid the rest of his money: 2000 in POKéDollars.

Denjuu

What's the buzz?
“What took you so long?”

Shari took the berry from Kenni and gave it to Florence. “I’m sorry Shari,” Kenni replied sarcastically, “I had to look for it on every single tree and use all of my money to buy it in an auction!” He looked at Florence and told her, “I saw a girl who said she was your sister.” Florence nodded. She took the berry and took it into another room. Kenni turned to the Bulbeed. The POKéMON was looking a bit stronger. Then Kenni noticed that the cabin was full of the scent of berries and flowers. “What happened while I was gone?” he asked Shari. “Well,” Shari began, “We just kept feeding Bulbeed berries. Then I had an idea. I thought aromatherapy could help make it feel better, so we placed flowers in different areas of the room.” Florence came back with a bowl of red juice, which she gave to Bulbeed. The POKéMON lapped up the juice happily. Florence looked to Kenni. “Thank you,” she said to him. Then she looked to Shari. “Thank you both!” she said again, “I can’t express how much I am grateful!” “Well,” Kenni began to say,” We could have a gym battle…” Florence yawned. “OK,” she said drowsily, “But taking care of Bulbeed has took it out of me. Maybe we can have our battle tomorrow.”

(The next day…)
“The gym battle between Leader Florence and the Trainer, Kenni will now begin. Each of you will use one POKéMON each with the challenger allowed to change POKéMON. Are you two ready? BEGIN!”

Florence tossed her POKéBall, revealing a Bulbeed. Kenni knew this was the same Bulbeed what was sick. It looked really energetic now! Kenni threw his POKéBall, revealing his Vulcant. “Ladies first!” Kenni said smiling. Florence smiled back, and said to her POKéMON, “Bulbeed! Don’t take it easy on him just because he helped make you better! Let’s do our best! Absorb!” Bulbeed sucked in Vulcant‘s energy. “Vulcant!” Kenni called, “Give it an Ember attack! No mercy!” Vulcant shot embers from its mouth, bombarding Bulbeed severely. “Bulbeed!” Florence commanded, “Use Razor Leaf!” Bulbeed attacked Vulcant with a mass of Razor Leaf. Kenni decided it was time to put a little strategy into his attacks so he told Vulcant: “Swarm, followed by Ember!” Vulcant multiplied itself, then attacked Bulbeed with Ember. After the attack, Bulbeed looked like it had almost no strength left. “Bulbeed!” Florence ordered it, “Double Team, then Bullet Seed!” Bulbeed did likewise to Vulcant and multiplied itself. Then the Bulbeed clones fired Bullet Seed at Vulcant, causing a small explosion. From the cloud of dust, Vulcant seemed OK, so Kenni thought it was time to end the battle. “Vulcant!” he ordered, “Use Ember!” After the Ember attack, Bulbeed was knocked out. “Bulbeed is unable to battle!” the referee announced, “Vulcant wins!” Florence grinned while she withdrew Bulbeed. She took out another POKéBall from which she released a POKéMON, this one looking like a large sunflower. Kenni took out his POKéDEX and looked up the POKéMON: “Sunflora, the Sun POKéMON. Sunflora absorbs the sun‘s rays through its head. By doing so, this POKéMON‘s head swells to a vast size.” “Sunflora!” Florence ordered, “Use Razor Leaf!” Sunflora blew a flurry of Razor Leaf at Vulcant. “Counter with Ember!” Kenni commanded. Vulcant obeyed, and sprayed embers, which burned the leaves. Florence smiled and said to Sunflora: “Use Solarbeam!” Sunflora glowed while absorbing power. “Kenni!!” Shari called, “Solarbeam takes a while to charge! Attack! Hurry!” But before Kenni could tell Vulcant to attack, Sunflora shot a bright beam of light, striking Vulcant. The ant POKéMON was thrown backwards from the force. Vulcant struggled to keep up, but suddenly fainted. “Vulcant is unable to battle!” the referee announced, “Sunflora wins!” Kenni withdrew Vulcant and sent out Clovut. Florence ordered Sunflora to use another Solarbeam. Sunflora glowed while charging.

“Clovut! Quick! Use Yawn!”

The attack was effective, and Sunflora fell asleep. Florence nodded. “Good strategy,” she remarked. Kenni then withdrew Clovut and sent out Swallark. ‘OK, Swallark!” Kenni commanded, “Use Wing Attack!” Swallark struck the sleeping Sunflora with a Wing Attack. Suddenly, Sunflora woke up! “Yes! Sunflora!” Florence called, “SOLARBEAM!!” Sunflora glowed, then shot a bright beam at Swallark. “Dodge it!” Kenni commanded. Swallark flew, dodging the beam. “Now, Swallark!” Kenni began to order, “Use Quick Attack combined with a Peck!” Swallark dashed toward Sunflora, hitting it with a Quick Attack and striking it with its beak. Sunflora looked like it took a lot of damage from the attacks. But it still looked like it had enough energy to fight. “Sludge Attack!” Florence ordered. Sunflora released a ball of sludge at Swallark, causing some damage. “Wing Attack followed by Quick Attack!” Kenni ordered. The bird POKéMON flew and dashed into Sunflora at full force. “Sunflora!” Florence said to the POKéMON, “Solarbeam!” Kenni tried to tell Swallark to dodge, but the poor bird POKéMON looked very exhausted. Sunflora shot a Solarbeam at Swallark, knocking it out. “Swallark is unable to battle!” the referee announced, “Sunflora wins!”

“Clovut! You’re my only hope!”

Kenni thought he wouldn’t have a chance now. Both POKéMON are Grass-types. How can he win? Wait a second. Who said he had to use Grass-type attacks? “Headbutt!” Kenni commanded the POKéMON. Clovut hit Sunflora with a headbutt. “Razor Leaf!” Florence ordered, but Sunflora flinched and did not attack. Kenni noticed the POKéMON was tiring out, so he told Clovut to use Razor Leaf. Clovut’s attack hit, and Sunflora became so tired, it toppled over and fainted. “Sunflora is unable to battle!” the referee announced, “Clovut wins! The victory goes to Trainer Kenni!”

“Here you go. A Petal Badge!”

Kenni took the badge with a cheerful smile. After leaving Birch Town, Kenni was still admiring his badge. “Careful,” she warned him, “Too much pride!” Kenni stared at her with a grimace. “Come on, Shari!” he said, patting her shoulder, “You have to admit, that was a close call! I almost got creamed!” Shari did not reply, but seemed to stare at something at the side of the road. Kenni noticed this. “What‘s up?” he asked. “Keep your voice down!” Shari whispered harshly, “Over there!” There were a group of POKéMON in a patch of grass: Two were small rodent-like POKéMON. And the other was larger and more rotund. Shari took out her POKéDEX and looked up the POKéMON: “Mukumuku, the Ground Mouse POKéMON. Mukumuku live in colonies. They dig burrows for food and their young. Upon sensing danger, these POKéMON dash into their hideaways. Lumming, the Gopher POKéMON. Lumming dig tunnels for storing food. These POKéMON are attracted to anything shiny or round, and are often seen carrying random items into their tunnels.” Both Kenni and Shari observed the wild POKéMON. While the Mukumuku and Lumming were wandering about, Shari pointed to a POKéMON hanging on a tree branch.

This POKéMON looked like a small creature in a pinecone. Kenni scanned the POKéMON: “Pinocco, the Wood Worm POKéMON. Pinocco hangs itself from a tree branch by a thread of silk that it spits. While hanging, this POKéMON constantly sways about, eventually breaking this thread, and falling off.” Kenni was fascinated by all of these new POKéMON. They all enthralled him.

“Hmph. Enjoying POKéMON?”

Kenni turned to find a boy standing behind him. The boy had wild purple hair and wore a scowl on his face. He wore a headband, along with a red turtleneck shirt, and knickerbockers. Kenni stared at him. “Excuse me?” he asked him. “Are you enjoying watching these POKéMON?” the boy asked again. Before Kenni could answer, Shari broke in. “Of course he does!” she said to him, “Why can’t he enjoy them?” The boy shook his head. “I didn’t say he couldn’t enjoy them,” he clarified, “I‘m just saying that he will soon find out that POKéMON are nothing more than combatants.” Kenni was shocked by this. “Combatants?!’ he repeated, “POKéMON are MUCH more than that! How can you say such a thing? Don’t you take them to be friends or anything?” The boy looked thoughtful for a moment, then replied, “Nope. They are soldiers to me. Warriors. Battlers. Nothing more.” Kenni glared at this boy, “If you think that low of POKéMON, then you’re probably not a Trainer.” The boy smirked and pulled out two POKéBalls. Kenni’s was stunned by this. “How can you even OWN POKéMON, but then call them warriors?!” he asked the boy. “I did not say I hated POKéMON,” the boy replied, “But that they were tools of battle!” He stopped to admire the exasperated look on Kenni’s face, then said, “My name is Raimundo. Yours?” Kenni continued to glare at the boy, but introduced himself as well, “I’m Kenni. She’s Shari.” Raimundo smiled at the two. “If you are still upset by my opinion,” he began, “then I’ll show you what I mean in a battle. How about it, Kenni? We‘ll use two POKéMON each.”

“Shakra, the Electric Current POKéMON. Shakra’s fur is compacted with static. It discharges frequently as it runs to prevent from overheating with electricity.”

Raimundo released a small blue dog-like POKéMON with yellow markings named Shakra. Kenni knew he had to prove this guy wrong. He released his Vulcant. “What will you do?” Shari asked Kenni, “His POKéMON looks strong. You could be in for a real challenge!” Kenni shook his head. “I’ll just stick to wide range attacks,” he replied, and with that, he ordered Vulcant to use Ember. The POKéMON fired flames at the Shakra. After taking damage, the Electric-type glowed, preparing for an attack. “Thunderbolt,“ Raimundo ordered. Sure enough, it released a heavy Thunderbolt attack. Thinking on his feet, Kenni ordered Vulcant to use Bide. Vulcant stored energy, and took the heavy damage of Thunderbolt. “Quick Attack” Raimundo ordered the Shakra. The POKéMON charged at Vulcant, striking it with a Quick Attack. Vulcant suddenly released a full power blow. Out of the blast, the Shakra was knocked out. Raimundo smiled and withdrew Shakra without saying a word. Still not saying anything, he released his second POKéMON, a blue and white eel POKéMON. Kenni looked at the POKéMON. For some reason, it reminded him of Professor Maple. He looked up the POKéMON on his POKéDEX anyway: “Eelectric, the Electric Fish POKéMON. Eelectric has a moist body, coated with static. This POKéMON will discharge when touched, shocking anything that happens to do so.” Kenni suddenly remembered Maple’s words about Eeliad: “When Eeliad evolve, they gain Electric-type traits…” Could this be that same POKéMON, but evolved? But he couldn’t focus on that now. He had to win this fight. “Vulcant,” he ordered his POKéMON, “Use Bide!” Vulcant began to store energy. Raimundo smirked. “I’m not stupid, you know.” he told Kenni, “I let you get away with a Bide attack last time, but I won’t let that happen again! Eelectric! Do nothing!” Kenni now knew Bide wouldn’t work. It was futile now. “Fine then!” he finally said, “Use Swarm followed by Flamethrower!” The Vulcant multiplied itself, then used a Flamethrower attack on Eelectric. “HEY!! STUPID!!” Shari called to Kenni. Kenni turned to Shari with a frown. “Why are you using Fire-type attacks on a Water-type?” she asked in a loud voice. Kenni turned back to the battle, ignoring Shari. Raimundo shook his head. “Listen to her,’ he reprimanded, “She is right, y’know. Since you made that mistake, I shall teach you a lesson! Eelectric! Aqua Surge!” Eelectric began to glow in a bright blue hew, then fired a bluish beam at Vulcant, striking it with heavy damage and knocking it out. Grumbling, Kenni withdrew it, and sent out Clovut. Raimundo looked at the POKéMON with awe. “Well!” he said in a surprised voice, “A starter POKéMON! You know Professor Maple? My POKéMON is a starter as well…”

“I knew it!” Kenni proclaimed with a smile, “That Eelectric evolved from that Eeliad! Professor Maple’s favorite POKéMON!” Raimundo nodded and said to Kenni, “For a person who doesn’t know about type disadvantages, you sure know about people.” Shari laughed. “Yep!“ she agreed, “He really doesn’t know about disadvantages!“ Kenni’s smile faded. “Let’s get on with this battle, alright?” he grumbled, “Clovut! Razor Leaf!” Clovut attacked Eelectric with a Razor Leaf, causing some serious damage. Raimundo knew he had a disadvantage against this Clovut, and Kenni knew this as well. “You say I don’t know about type disadvantages, Rai?” Kenni asked, “Well, I sure do know when I have an advantage!” Raimundo merely nodded, and ordered Eelectric to use a Spark attack. Electrifying itself, Eelectric charged at Clovut, hitting it with a head-on Spark Attack. Clovut seemed to shake off the damage afterwards. Before Kenni could call another attack, Clovut began to glow. “I think,” Raimundo began to say,” that your Clovut is beginning to evolve.” Yes! It was evolving! When the light faded, Clovut had grown into a Clovine. This POKéMON was of a green and brown color like Clovut but it has also grown in size, had a larger leaf on its head and a longer neck. Kenni scanned this new POKéMON: “Clovine, the Plant POKéMON. Clovine are usually seen in herds with their own kind. These POKéMON love sunlight and will sunbathe as much as they can.” Kenni grinned wildly. He looked to Raimundo. “Now the real battle begins!” he said confidently, “Clovine! Magical Leaf!” Clovine obeyed, shooting a flurry of leaves at Eelectric. “Thunderbolt!” Raimundo ordered. The eel POKéMON unleashed a powerful electric shock on Clovine. “Let’s wrap this up!” Kenni said with glee, “Clovine! Headbutt!” Clovine stampeded toward Eelectric. Raimundo watched as the Grass-type struck his Eelectric with a Headbutt, knocking it out.

“Yeah! I beat you! Now take back what you said!”

Raimundo shook his head. “I think you better pay attention, kiddo.” he said. “What do you mean?” Kenni asked. “You proved even more that I was correct!” Raimundo told him, “You used brute force. You did everything you could to win!” “That doesn’t make any sense,” Kenni commented. “Yeah, it doesn’t,” Shari said, “I mean, he didn’t want to lose. And didn’t you see Clovut evolve? Unless a POKéMON has that much of a bond with his Trainer….” “Oh please!” Raimundo interrupted, “What bond? If a POKéMON reaches a high enough level in battle, it will evolve! How do you think my Eeliad evolved? With a bond? A POKéMON must gain experience in battle. Then it will evolve!” Kenni and Shari exchanged glances. “I still don’t understand you,” Kenni said with a sigh, “Your opinion is a bit corrupted.” Raimundo shook his head. “Fine then,” he muttered, “Continue to use POKéMON as partners and playmates. You’ll never unlock their true powers!” Raimundo chuckled. “I think it is time I’d be on my way,” he said, “I have a goal to accomplish.” With that, he left.

Continuing across the route, Kenni took out his guidebook. Reading it, he came across some interesting info. He passed the book to Shari. “Look,” he said, handing the book to her, “The city we’re about to reach, Marigold City, is opening a POKéMON Contest Hall.” Shari took the book and read it herself: “Grand Opening for the POKéMON Contest Hall. Enter your POKéMON and show off their style! Don’t forget to give your POKéMON some Contest Smoothies….” “Contest Smoothies,” Kenni repeated, “Same as Trixie said. Are you going to enter?” Shari shook her head and was about to say something, but was interrupted by a low grumbling sound. She looked to Kenni, who was staring at her. “Are you hungry or something?” he asked. Shari laughed. “I guess I am!” she replied, “Let’s get to Marigold City fast!”

“Wow, this is delicious!”

Shari placed her empty plate on top of a stack of five others. She rubbed her stomach in satisfaction. “The POKéMON Center really spoils you!” she said to Kenni, “The food is really gourmet! And really appetizing!”. Kenni merely nodded. He was still reading his guidebook. “Well, there’s a Gym Leader here,” he said, reading from the book, “Her name is Bubbles. She uses Water-types. And her badge is the Mist Badge. It also says she‘s the youngest Gym Leader. She‘s seven!” Not getting a response, he looked up from the book to see Shari asleep. Kenni yawned. Just watching Shari peacefully sleeping made him tired as well. Before he could doze off himself, a girl rushed inside holding a small firefly POKéMON. She went up to the counter and told the nurse distraughtly, “NURSE! NURSE! My poor Lilea was beat up by these strange cloaked people!” The nurse looked concerned. “Team Dark AGAIN?” she muttered, “OK, give me your POKéMON.” The girl handed the Lilea to the nurse, and began to pace nervously. She then noticed Kenni looking at her. Kenni smiled, but his smile was replaced by a frown of anxiety. “Team Dark attacked your POKéMON?” he asked. The girl nodded. “Yes,” she replied softly, “They kept demanding me to hand over my POKéMON, but I refused. Then they brought out these Houndoom and attacked it.“ “Houndoom?” Kenni asked, taking out his POKéDEX. “Houndoom,” the device beeped, “The Dark POKéMON. Houndoom hunt and travel in packs. These POKéMON are vicious in groups and will attack any other POKéMON that comes in their way.” Kenni looked up at the girl and asked her, “What are they after?” “I don’t know,“ she replied, “But I’m pretty sure they are looking for the shrines of the three Elemental POKéMON of the Entec region.” “Elemental POKéMON?” Kenni mused. “That’s what they are called,” the girl explained. She turned to the counter. The nurse had come back, and was holding the Lilea in her arms. Giving it to the girl, she said, “Be careful, OK?” The girl nodded happily and hugged her Lilea. She walked towards Kenni. Looking at the Lilea, Kenni scanned the POKéMON: “Lilea, the Tiny Fly POKéMON. Lilea uses the light on its neck to see during the night. It only seems to use its taillight to communicate.” “There’s something I just remembered about Team Dark!” she said to Kenni, “They’re in some kind of competition with another rivaling organization called Team Light.” Kenni nodded. He remembered those two Team Dark thugs mentioning Team Light. The girl smiled at Kenni, thanked him for his company and left. Kenni turned to Shari, who, to his surprise, was awake. “Who’s your girlfriend?” she asked smirking. “She’s not my girlfriend!” Kenni replied.

What's the buzz?
“Marigold City Gym! Onward to my third badge!”

Entering the gym, Kenni and Shari observed the battling field. It was divided into water and land sections, giving both battlers a wider choice of POKéMON to use. “I don’t see anyone here,” Shari said. At that moment, a door to the far end of the gym opened, and a little girl with blue hair came inside wearing a yellow bathing suit. “Hello,” she said approaching the two trainers, “I‘m Bubbles, the Gym Leader here.” “Aw, you’re so cute!“ Shari said. The girl pouted. “Hmph,” she snorted, “Don’t insult me! You’re here for my badge, right? Well let’s go then!”

“The gym battle between Leader Bubbles and the Trainer, Kenni will now begin. Each of you will use one POKéMON each with the challenger allowed to change POKéMON. Are you two ready? BEGIN!”

Throwing a POKéBall, Bubbles released a round blue mouse POKéMON. Kenni looked up the POKéMON on his POKéDEX: “Marrill, the Aquamouse POKéMON. Marrill uses its tail to cling to surfaces to keep from getting washed away by a strong current. This POKéMON can hold its breath underwater for long periods of time.” Putting away the POKéDEX, he threw his POKéBall, releasing his Clovine. “Now, Marrill!” Bubbles ordered her Marrill, “Use Iron Tail!” Marrill attacked Clovine with a hard strike of its tail. “Magical Leaf!” Kenni ordered, and the Grass-type retaliated with a powerful Magical Leaf attack. “Marrill!” Bubbles called to the small Water-type, “Bubblebeam!” Marrill fired a harsh Bubblebeam at Clovine, causing some damage. Kenni ordered a Razor Leaf attack this time, but Bubbles ordered Marrill to dodge by diving underwater. Now this was a challenge. How could Clovine attack Marrill while it is underwater? Bubbles saw her chance, and ordered Marrill to attack with an Iron Tail. Jumping out of the water, Marrill attacked Clovine again with Iron Tail. Now, this time, Kenni saw his chance! “Razor Leaf! Now!” he ordered. Clovine struck back with a Razor Leaf, and Marrill was down for the count.

“Marrill is unable to battle! Clovine wins!”

Returning Marrill to its POKéBall, Bubbles sent out another POKéMON---a Shrimpish. Recognizing this POKéMON, Kenni smirked. He knew Clovine would have another advantage, but he thought it wise that it should take a break. Returning Clovine, Kenni released his Swallark. “Wing Attack!” Kenni ordered. The bird POKéMON flew towards Shrimpish, striking it with a Wing Attack. “OK, Shrimpish!” Bubbles ordered her POKéMON, “Use Water Gun!” The small shrimp POKéMON fired a Water Gun at the Swallark, but the bird POKéMON dodged the attack. “Great job, Swallark!” Kenni praised the POKéMON, “Now use Peck!” Swallark swooped toward Shrimpish, pecking it. “No mercy! No mercy!” Bubbles chanted, ”Use Crabhammer!” Shrimpish attacked the Swallark with a powerful Crabhammer attack. Kenni knew both Swallark and Shrimpish took some major damage. He had to end this. He ordered Swallark to use a Quick Attack. Dashing toward Shrimpish, Swallark collided into it with a Quick Attack, and knocking it out. “Shrimpish is unable to battle!” the referee announced, ”Swallark wins!” Wearing a huge grin for some reason, Bubbles withdrew Shrimpish. “You’re cool!” she said to Kenni, grinning, “I think you have a chance of beating me! Now for my third POKéMON, Swain!” Throwing her ball, Bubbles released a swan-like POKéMON. Kenni looked it up on his POKéDEX: “Swain, the Swan POKéMON. Swain are caring parents. They raise their young with affection. If the young are threatened, the parents will defend them and even sustain injuries doing so.”

“Wing Attack!”

Swallark hit Swain with a critical Wing Attack. “Swain!” Bubbles ordered, “Use Wing Attack too!” Swain flew into Swallark hitting it with a Wing Attack. Bubbles then ordered her POKéMON to use a Double Team attack, followed by a Featherstorm. Swain multiplied itself, and the clones struck with a flurry of feathers. This attack threw Swallark to the ground. The bird POKéMON looked exhausted, so Kenni decided to return it to its ball. He then released Vulcant. Bubbles laughed at the POKéMON. “Double advantage!” she declared, “I’ll crush your little Vulcant like an ant! Swain! Water Gun!” Swain fired a Water Gun at Vulcant. Kenni ordered Vulcant to use Bide. The POKéMON stored energy, while taking damage from the Water Gun. “Wing Attack!” Bubbles ordered her Swain. Swain swooped towards Vulcant. It hit Vulcant on-target, causing more damage. Seeing another chance to strike again, Bubbles ordered her Swain to use a Featherstorm. Swain attacked with a Featherstorm, causing Vulcant more damage. It looked like Vulcant had almost no more strength to go on, but it then unleashed power, hitting Swain and knocking it out. “Swain is unable to battle!, the ref announced, “Vulcant wins! The victory goes to Trainer Kenni!”

“That was a great battle! Here you go! A Mist Badge!”

Leaving the gym, Kenni and Shari bumped into two cloaked individuals---a man and a woman. The man stepped forward and said, “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about the Elemental POKéMON, would you?” Shari looked confused. “Elemental POKéMON?” she asked Kenni. “Of course you know about them!” the woman interjected, pointing a finger at them, “Yasik, Rentu, and Junta! If we are ever going to stop Team Light, we must know!” “Those three POKéMON are they key to our success,” the man explained, “With them, we will fuse their powers, and awaken the legendary bird POKéMON that rests on Mt. Belore! Then Team Dark will be a powerful force in the universe!” “And now that you kids know,” the woman began, “you must suffer!” Kenni shook his head, “I don‘t think so,” he replied, “You see, we didn’t know about this whole Team Dark conquering the world thing, until you just blurted it out.” “Which gives us more reason to hate you guys even more!” Shari said. “Hate us?” the woman asked innocently, “You must be members of Team Light then! If so, you are our enemies!” She then threw a POKéBall, releasing a Houndoom and the man did likewise, releasing a Shakra. “So it’s a double battle!” Kenni said, “This will be great training for my gym battle!” He threw a POKéBall, releasing his Vulcant, and Shari threw a POKéBall as well , releasing her Tetun.

“Flamethrower, Houndoom!”
“Shakra! Shock Wave!”

Houndoom shot flames at Vulcant, while Shakra released a jolt of electricity at Tetun. “Vulcant! Dodge and use Bide!” Kenni ordered his POKéMON. “Tetun! Dodge that and use Wing Attack on Houndoom!” Shari ordered her POKéMON. Dodging the attack, Vulcant stored energy. Tetun dodged as well and struck Houndoom with Wing Attack. The woman ordered her Houndoom to use a Swift Attack, and the man ordered his Shakra to use another Shock Wave. Vulcant took the damage from Swift, but Tetun did not, being a Ghost-type. When Shakra unleashed a Shock Wave, both the clones of Vulcant and Tetun took damage. After taking enough hits, Vulcant released energy, striking out Shakra, and causing damage on Houndoom. Withdrawing his Shakra, the man advised the woman not to show any mercy. The woman nodded in reply and ordered Houndoom to use a Fire Blast. Houndoom charged up for Fire Blast. Kenni ordered Vulcant to use Ember while Shari ordered Tetun to use Gust. Vulcant fired Ember, while Tetun attacked with Gust. Both attacks hit Houndoom, knocking it out. The woman withdrew her POKéMON, and both Team Dark members fled.

“What is up with these Team Dark thugs?”

After giving their POKéMON to the nurse in the POKéMON Center, Kenni and Shari were seated at a table. “Well,” Kenni began, “Those two did mention Elemental POKéMON. Yasik, Rentu and Junta. I wonder what kind of POKéMON they are…” “I have a thought,” Shari said, “If Team Dark is evil, do you think Team Light is the opposite?” “You mean, are they the good guys?” Kenni asked. Shari nodded. Kenni thought for a minute. If Team Dark were having problems with Team Light, then maybe Team Light might not be another villainous cult! But…they haven’t even seen any members of Team Light, so there was no way to tell whether they were good or as evil as their rivals. Suddenly, Shari spoke up, “Give me your guidebook! I wanna see something!” Kenni took out his guidebook and handed it to her. Shari began to flip through the pages rapidly, until she stopped and smiled with interest. Then she read: “Yasik, Rentu and Junta are three legendary POKéMON, each being said to control a specific element. Yasik, the Arctic Wind POKéMON is an Ice and Water type that is able to control the torrents and the raging gales. Rentu is an Electric type that controls rain, thunder and the clouds. Junta is a Fire type that has the ability to manipulate the sun’s heat.” Shari stopped reading and looked up at Kenni. Kenni was silent, but then said, “I heard that there were shrines of those POKéMON. Does it say where they are?” Shari scanned the pages. “It says here,” she replied, “that the location of the shrines is unknown.” Kenni looked at the clock on the wall. “I think it’s getting late,” he said yawning, “Let’s find a room to crash for the night.” He began to get up, but shot a look at Shari, who was grinning slyly. He pointed a finger at her. “And don’t slap me again!” he warned her.

The next morning, it wasn’t the slap of Shari’s hand that woke Kenni up, but the rays of sunlight that shone through the blinds. Getting up, Kenni spotted Shari on a chair, looking at her POKéDEX. She turned to Kenni and beamed. Kenni rubbed his eyes. “What did you do?” he asked her. “What?” Shari asked naively. “You don’t look innocent” Kenni told her, “You did something to wake me up.” Putting her POKéDEX away, Shari rose from the chair. “Shut up. I didn‘t do a thing.” she said and left the room.

What's the buzz?
“What’s the next destination?”

Exploring the new route, Kenni flipped through his guidebook. “Cherry Town,” he replied, “There isn’t a gym there, but there is a Trainer Park there.” “Trainer Park?” Shari asked. Kenni nodded and continued to read: “The Trainer Park is where trainers go to meet other trainers like themselves and battle for fun!” “Let’s go there, OK, Kenny?” Shari suggested, “It might be fun!” “Sure,“ Kenni agreed. It could be fun. There would sure be POKéMON that he had never seen before, and this could be a great experience for him. He and Shari advanced toward Cherry Town.

Entering the Cherry Town Trainer Park, Kenni and Shari saw many trainers battling, talking or doing absolutely nothing at all! Kenni admired the POKéMON each trainer owned. Scanning the area, he noticed two young trainers approaching him. One was a small boy in a yellow t-shirt and slacks. The other was a little girl in a pink dress and sandals. Both of them were holding hands. Coming to Kenni, the girl asked him, “Hello, Mr. Trainer! Are you new? Want to battle?” Pulling out a POKéBall, Kenni nodded. “A double battle?” he asked. The girl looked to the boy, who nodded. “Yes,” he answered, “A double battle. Me and her against two of your POKéMON.” Kenni was confused. He did not know a trainer could use two of their POKéMON in a double battle. “Ever double battle?” the girl asked. “I have,” Kenni began, “but I usually battle with Shari.” The girl looked at Shari, who smiled. “That your girlfriend?” she asked. Stunned, Kenni snuck a look at Shari. Shari blushed, and turned her head away, giggling. “So you wanna battle? Huh?” the boy quickly asked. Kenni slowly nodded in response. Smiling, the boy threw a POKéBall, revealing a small blue and white cat POKéMON. The girl did likewise, releasing a cat POKéMON as well, but this one being pink and white. Taking out his POKéDEX, Kenni scanned the two new POKéMON: “Nyasan, the Twin Cat POKéMON. Nyasan is an aggressive POKéMON that will easily attack anything that disturbs it. This POKéMON is the male version of its mate, Nyasu. Nyasu, the Twin Cat POKéMON. Nyasu is playful and gets along well with other POKéMON. This POKéMON is the female version of its mate, Nyasan.”

“Go! Swallark! Vulcant!”

Releasing his POKéMON, Kenni got ready for a heated battle. “Sakura!” the girl called to her Nyasu, “Use Tackle on that birdie!” The pink cat POKéMON collided into Swallark with a full-bodied Tackle attack. “Jetty!” the boy called to his Nyasan, “Attack Vulcant with Rush Tackle!” The blue cat POKéMON dashed into Vulcant with a speedy Rush Tackle. “Swallark! Vulcant!” Kenni ordered his POKéMON, “Wing Attack on Nyasu and Ember on Nyasan!” Swallark attacked Nyasu with a Wing Attack while Vulcant sprayed embers at Nyasan. “Iron Tail on the fire ant!” the girl ordered her POKéMON. “Swift on that Swallark!” the boy ordered his POKéMON. Nyasu struck Vulcant with a powerful Iron Tail, while Nyasan sprayed star shaped rays, bombarding Swallark. This battle was becoming a bit challenging. Kenni had to hit strong and hard. He ordered Vulcant to use Take Down on Nyasan and Swallark to hit Nyasu with Quick Attack. Vulcant attacked Nyasan with Take Down successfully, but Swallark did something different. Instead of a Quick Attack, it dashed toward Nyasu, striking it with its wings and knocking it out. Kenni was taken aback. “Hey, Kenni!” Shari called, “I think Swallark learned Speedy Wing!” Kenni smiled. It was fascinating that Swallark finally learned a Speedy Wing attack. Now he could use it to win this battle! Now only Nyasu was battling. “Sakura!” the girl ordered the small cat POKéMON, “That bad birdie beat your friend, Jetty! Make him pay for it! Give ‘em a Quick Attack!” Nyasu raced toward Swallark, preparing for a straight on Quick Attack. “Swallark!” Kenni called to his POKéMON, “It’s up to you! Speedy Wing!” Swallark obeyed and flew toward Nyasu at full speed, wings glowing with power. Both POKéMON collided, blowing up dust which concealed them. Kenni and the girl became silent and tense, waiting for the victor. When the dust cleared, Nyasu was knocked out. Swallark had won!

“That was fun! Thanks, Mr. Trainer!”

After shaking hands with the two trainers before they left, Kenni walked to Shari. Smiling, Shari said, “Good win. Swallark finally learned Speedy Wing.” Kenni nodded and grinned. Then he burst out laughing. Shari stared at him, confused. Kenni stopped laughing and grinned again. “I can’t believe that girl thought you were my girlfriend!” he said. Shari said nothing. “Sorry about that,” Kenni apologized, “It was just funny, that’s all. Sorry if I made you upset.” Shari still said nothing.

“Are you OK? You’ve been quiet ever since I brought up that whole girlfriend thing…”

Kenni and Shari were strolling through Cherry Town. Shari still hadn’t said a word since they left the park. Kenni gave up. If Shari wasn’t going to speak, then there’s no use making her. Suddenly, Shari grabbed Kenni’s hand. “You saw how those little kids held hands, right?” she finally said, “Let’s hold hands, OK? I mean we‘re not strangers or anything.” Kenni nodded. “Yeah, we’ve known each other for quite some time,” he said. Shari looked at him and giggled. “You know,” she began to say, “I’ve been thinking. We’ve been friends for a while. Let’s upgrade!” “You mean a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship?” Kenni asked. “No, stupid!” Shari replied laughing, “I mean BEST friends!” Kenni shrugged. “Sure” he replied, “But why can’t you be my girlfriend?” “Because,” Shari answered, “We haven’t upgraded to that level! You‘ve gotta wait, kiddo!” Kenni laughed as well.

Departing from Cherry Town, Kenni and Shari were once again on another route. Kenni looked down at Shari’s hand gripping his. He smiled. Shari actually had a soft side. Now he had a different view of her. He looked at Shari’s face. She was almost a different person now. Shari felt Kenni’s eyes on her. She turned to him and smiled, blushing. Kenni couldn’t help blushing himself. He started to say something, but thought not to ruin the moment, whatever it was. “Yeah?” Shari asked, sensing that he was going to say something. Kenni had to say something now. “Um, I…uh….” he stuttered, “You like Kazehanto?” He didn’t know why Kazehanto came to mind. Probably because Shari wanted one, after seeing Bailey’s. That was why she caught Manstal. Shari nodded. “I do” she replied, “Why?” “Well, you haven’t been training it.” Kenni replied. Shari nodded again with understanding. Letting go of Kenni’s hand, she pulled out one of her POKéBalls and threw it, releasing the small green caterpillar POKéMON. “Hey, Manstal!” Shari said to the POKéMON, “Wanna start training so you can evolve?” Manstal began hopping happily. “Um, Shari?” Kenni asked, “How are you even gonna train it? Just find a random wild POKéMON and battle with it?” Shari smiled at him. “I don’t need a wild POKéMON, stupid!” Shari replied grinning, “Give me one of your POKéMON!” “What?!” Kenni asked, appalled, “No way!” Shari’s smile was replaced by a mean glare. “Give one to me!!” she demanded, “Or I’ll take one by force!!” Kenni stared at her, trembling with fright. When Shari gets angry, she gets angry! “C’mon!!” she yelled at him, “Give it!!” At that minute, a Lumming appeared and began to walk across the road. Spotting it, Shari smiled. “Never mind,” she said, and then to her Manstal, “Poison Sting!” Manstal fired Poison Sting at the unsuspecting Lumming, causing some damage. The confused Lumming shook off the damage, and charged at Manstal, knocking it down with a Tackle.

“Use Swarm! Then shower it with Poison Sting!”

Multiplying itself, the Manstals surrounded the Lumming and shot Poison Sting at it, causing it even more damage. After taking the hits, the Lumming shook of the damage once again. Shari was about to command another attack, when Manstal’s clones disappeared, exposing the Bug-POKéMON. Then it began to glow. Shari watched in awe as her Manstal evolved into a Chrysapod. Remembering the battle, Shari ordered her new POKéMON to attack, but then noticed that the Lumming had taken the free chance to escape.

Picking up her new Chrysapod, Shari hugged it with affection. “Next stop,” she declared, “a beautiful Kazehanto.” She turned to Kenni. “What do ya say we go on to the next town?” she suggested, “What is the next area?” Kenni took out his guidebook and read it. “Juniper City,” he answered. “Then let’s go!” Shari said eagerly. As both of them were about to continue, another POKéMON crossed their path. It wasn’t a Lumming, but a small white weasel POKéMON. Kenni took out his POKéDEX and scanned this POKéMON: “Ermice, the Snow Weasel POKéMON. Ermice freezes its food to preserve it. They are very timid POKéMON that will scatter from the slightest sound.” Kenni decided to catch this one. Being both a Normal and an Ice-type, it could prove useful. He released Vulcant and prepared for battle.

“Use Ember on Ermice, Vulcant!”

Vulcant shot embers at the wild Ermice, causing effective damage. “That was a good choice,” Shari commented, “You were right about knowing advantages.” “Thanks, Shari!” Kenni said, smiling at her. He then ordered Vulcant to use a Flamethrower. Vulcant did so, causing Ermice even more effective damage. The wild Ermice seemed to have enough fighting spirit in it, and it struck Vulcant with a strangely powerful Quick Attack. “It’s Ermice’s ability!” Shari told Kenni, “Little Guts. It increases Ermice’s power when it’s hit by a super-effective attack!” Kenni looked at Shari with awe. “How do you know stuff like that?” he asked. Shari shrugged. Going back to the battle, Kenni ordered Vulcant to use Tackle. Vulcant dashed toward Ermice, but the little POKéMON slipped away, avoiding damage. It then blew snow at Vulcant, knocking it backwards. “I think that was a Powder Snow attack!” Shari said. Deciding it was time to catch this Ermice, Kenni threw a POKéBall at it.

“Yes! Got it! I caught Ermice!”

At Juniper City, Kenni and Shari found a POKéMON Center to rest at. Sitting down at a table, Shari began to stretch. “Traveling is always fun!” she said with a smile. Kenni looked at Shari. “Hey Shari? There’s something I wanna know.” he told her. Shari looked to him, and Kenni went on: “Your childhood. How was it?” Shari frowned. Kenni saw this as a bad sign and was about to drop the question when Shari replied: “My childhood was pretty lame. I only lived with my mom since my parents separated. My older brother was a gym leader, and he gave me one of his badges, the Blizzard Badge as a keepsake. Unfortunately, I lost it.” She looked at Kenni to make sure he was listening. Kenni seemed interested, so Shari continued her story: “Anyway, I was a violent child. It started when I was seven. I could’ve killed every kid in my neighborhood!” Shari laughed when she said this, and expected Kenni to laugh as well, but Kenni looked traumatized. Shari shook her head and continued: “I remember once, when I was eleven, one of my friends was being picked on by this tall dude. So I confronted him around my block warning him to keep away from my friend. He pushed me aside and said, ’Or else what? Do you have a problem with me?’ Well I did, and let’s just say he was flattened, rolled over and tossed aside. A day after I beat him up, I heard that he and his family moved.” Looking at Kenni again, Shari could see him tense up. She shrugged. “I told you I was a bad girl,” she said with a sigh. She decided to end the story there. She asked Kenni, “Is there a gym leader here?” Kenni scanned the guidebook. “Yes,” he answered, “Her name is Wendy. She uses Ghost-types.” “Ghost -types are weak against Dark-types,” Shari said to him, “You don’t have any Dark-types for sure, but do your POKéMON know any Dark-types moves?” Kenni looked confused, so Shari explained, “Dark-type moves like Pursuit, Faint Attack or Thief.” Kenni shook his head. “You know none of them have those kinds of attacks,” he said, “I’ll just stick to powerful attacks.” “They’re resistant to Normal-type moves,” she remarked, “So that means a Headbutt and Tackle from Clovine, a Quick Attack from Swallark, a Tackle from Vulcant and Quick Attack from Ermice won’t work. You need to stick to powerful attacks.“

“This place is kinda creepy…”

The Juniper City Gym had an eerie feel to it. It was dimly lit, and a light fog filled the room. Statues could be seen around the gym. Shari quickly grabbed Kenni’s hand. “Are you scared?” Kenni asked, not realizing his voice was trembling. “This place does give me the creeps,” Shari began, “But I’m not scared. You are though.” “Who are you?“ a voice whispered. Startled, the two trainers looked about. “Who said that?!” Kenni asked in a trembling voice. “I did!” the voice said again. Both Trainers looked around, but they could see no one. “Who are you?” Shari asked, “Where are you?” A figure stepped out of the fog. “I am Wendy,” said a tall purple haired girl. She wore a black cloak and hood, almost resembling the attire the Team Dark members wore. “Hello, nice to meet you,” Kenni greeted with a trembling voice. Wendy stared at him through cold, glaring eyes. “Are you afraid?” she asked, almost in a whisper, “Don’t be afraid of me. I’m a nice person.” “Don’t worry about him,” Shari said to her, “He’s a sissy.” Wendy smiled at Kenni. “Kenni,” she whispered. She looked to Shari. “Shari,” she whispered. “How did you know our names?” Kenni asked. “I’m a psychic,” Wendy replied, “We will become very good friends in the future. But for the present, let us have a battle. If you win, you will receive an official Phantom Badge.” She turned to Shari again. “I do not have a referee. Would you do the honors?”

“The gym battle between Leader Wendy and the Trainer, Kenni will now begin. Each of you will use one POKéMON each with the challenger allowed to change POKéMON. Are you two ready? BEGIN!”

Kenni threw one of his POKéBalls, releasing Ermice. Wendy threw a POKéBall, releasing a Tetun. “Go Kenni!” Shari cheered, “You have an advantage! Ice-types freeze Flying-types!” Kenni nodded and ordered Ermice to use Powder Snow. Ermice blew snow at Tetun, striking it directly. Wendy ordered Tetun to use Wing Attack. Tetun flew toward Ermice, hitting it with a Wing Attack. “Ermice!” Kenni called to his POKéMON, “Let’s see if you can use Pursuit!” Ermice obeyed and charged at Tetun, damaging it severely. Kenni smiled. At least Ermice knew a Dark-type attack. He ordered it to use Powder Snow this time. The attack hit, causing more damage. Wendy ordered her Tetun to use Psybeam, and the POKéMON shot a multi-colored beam at Ermice, which hit on target. “Wait a sec!” Shari interjected, “Tetun can’t learn Psybeam.” “My Tetun is special,” Wendy replied and ordered Tetun to use Wind Up. Tetun rotated its wings rapidly. Kenni waited for the POKéMON to unleash an attack, but it did not. He took the chance and ordered Ermice to use another Powder Snow. More damage on Tetun. Wendy told Tetun to use a Spirit Ball. Tetun charged up a glowing ball of power, and then fired it at Ermice. Kenni knew this was a Ghost-type attack and thought it wouldn’t hurt Ermice. But when Ermice was hit directly, he became confused. “Spirit Ball,” Wendy explained, “Is the only Ghost-type move that hits a Normal-type. I think Tetun has fought well. Go ahead and give it the final blow.” Kenni was even more confused, but ordered Ermice to use a Powder Snow, which sure enough, defeated Tetun. “Tetun is unable to battle,” Shari announced, “Ermice wins!” Smirking, Wendy returned Tetun to its POKéBall, and threw another one.

“Haunter. This POKéMON causes damage to its foes by a curse. It gives its enemies nightmares and eats their dreams.”

Wendy’s next POKéMON was Haunter, a floating purple ghost POKéMON with two floating hands. “Haunter, use Hypnosis,” Wendy commanded it. Haunter’s eyes began to glow, hypnotizing Ermice and putting it to sleep. Kenni knew this was trouble, so he withdrew Ermice and sent out Swallark. “Use Speedy Wing!” he ordered. Swallark dashed and struck Haunter with a Speedy Wing Attack. Wendy ordered her Haunter to use a Thunder attack, and the POKéMON released electricity, critically hitting Swallark, and knocking it down. Kenni looked tensely at the poor bird POKéMON. He then realized that an Electric-type attack like Thunder was lethal to a mere Flying-type. He urged Swallark to get up. Swallark struggled to get to its feet and succeeded, gathering up the last few ounces of its strength. Kenni told it to use a Wing Attack, followed by Speedy Wing. Swallark flew towards Haunter, hitting it with Wing Attack, then coming down on it with a Speedy Wing. Then Wendy ordered the dreaded attack: “Spirit Ball”. Haunter threw a Spirit Ball at Swallark, knocking it out. “Swallark is unable to battle,” Shari announced, “Haunter wins!”

“Go! Vulcant!”

Vulcant was up next, and Kenni ordered it to use Swarm, followed by a Flamethrower. Vulcant multiplied itself and attacked Haunter with Flamethrower, instantly knocking it out. “Haunter is unable to battle,” Shari announced, “Vulcant wins!” Returning Haunter to its POKéBall, Wendy released another Ghost-type POKéMON, this one having a black, cloak-like body and a skull-like face. Kenni looked this POKéMON up on his POKéDEX: Duskull, the Welcoming POKéMON. Duskull is said to welcome souls into afterlife. This POKéMON is often seen traveling in the night, and is said to search for wandering souls.” Putting away the POKéDEX, Kenni ordered Vulcant to use Flamethrower. Vulcant fired a mass of flames, hurting Duskull. “Will-o-wisp” Wendy ordered Duskull. The Ghost-POKéMON released small purple flames at Vulcant. “Blow them away with Ember,” Kenni told Vulcant, “And attack with another Flamethrower!” Vulcant fired embers at the wisps, destroying them, and then attacked Duskull with another Flamethrower. Once again, Wendy ordered a Spirit Ball attack. Duskull obeyed, releasing a Spirit Ball. “Dodge! Quick!” Kenni ordered. Vulcant dodged Spirit Ball successfully. Wendy smiled and ordered Duskull to use Shadow Ball. Duskull released a Shadow Ball attack, which struck Vulcant. Looking to Vulcant, Kenni could see it was tired. He ordered it to use Flamethrower, and Wendy ordered her Duskull to use a Night Shade. Duskull fired a black ray at Vulcant and Vulcant fired a Flamethrower at Duskull. Both attacks ended up hitting their targets---Night Shade hit Vulcant and Flamethrower hit Duskull---knocking out both combatants. “Both POKéMON are unable to battle,” Shari announced. Surprised by the draw, Kenni and Wendy withdrew their POKéMON.

“You have come far, Kenni. But I still have one last POKéMON. This is the POKéMON I raised when I was a little girl. Meet….FORTASMA!”

Wendy threw a POKéBall, releasing her final POKéMON, Fortasma. This was a genie-esque POKéMON riding on a cloud. Kenni scanned this strange POKéMON with his POKéDEX: “Fortasma, the Fortune POKéMON. Fortasma are very rare POKéMON and are said to give good luck to those who find one. These POKéMON also have the ability to give money to their owners.” Kenni looked at Wendy’s Fortasma. It looked like a very tough POKéMON. He took out one of his POKéBalls, releasing his Ermice---but it was still sleeping. This started to irritate Kenni. Wendy ordered Fortasma to attack with Confusion. Fortasma rose its hands and glowed in blue. Ermice began to glow as well and levitated. Kenni knew he had to find a way to wake Ermice up. “WAKE UP, ERMICE!’ he called to it, “C’MON!!!” Nothing. Ermice was fast asleep. Kenni had to admit. Ermice was a sound sleeper. Another attack order came from Wendy: “Metronome”. Still glowing, Fortasma waved its arms from side to side in a rhythmical pattern. “If you didn’t know,“ Wendy told Kenni, “Metronome chooses a random attack. So its unpredictable.“ After she said this. Fortasma stopped waving its arms and it released a gush of water, striking Ermice and sending it hurtling to the gym floor. “That was Hydro Pump,” Wendy remarked, and with that, she ordered Fortasma to use Dream Eater. Fortasma stretched its arms toward the still sleeping Ermice, draining it of its power. Kenni knew if this kept up, Ermice would be out. He decided to try again to wake Ermice up: “ERMICE! C’MON! WAKE UP!!!” Finally, Ermice woke up, and the Dream Eater attack was nullified.

“Powder Snow! Let’s go!”

Ermice attacked with Powder Snow, hitting Fortasma. Wendy shook her head. “Your Ermice cannot go on much longer. One more attack will strike it out. Either switch or risk having it knocked out.” “Sorry, Wendy,’ Kenni replied, “But I’ll let Ermice do the best it can.” Wendy smiled. Kenni smiled back and ordered Ermice to use a Pursuit attack. Ermice struck Fortasma with a Pursuit attack causing heavy damage. Wendy told Fortasma to attack with Psybeam. Fortasma fired a Psybeam at Ermice, but the little POKéMON managed to dodge. “Now, Ermice!” Kenni called to the POKéMON, “Snow Ball!” Ermice charged up a ball of snow, then flung it at Fortasma, hitting it. Wendy sighed. “If this attack hits,” she said, “your Ermice will be knocked out. Now, Fortasma. Spirit Ball!” Fortasma charged up a Spirit Ball attack while Ermice charged up another Snow Ball. Fortasma released Spirit Ball, and Ermice threw a Snow Ball. The Snow Ball struck Spirit Ball, deflecting it, and both attacks came to Fortasma. The genie POKéMON was hit by its own Spirit Ball and Ermice’s Snow Ball, sustaining critical damage. Wendy smiled again. “You are a good trainer, Kenni,” she commented, “You have much talent. Your Ermice does as well.” Then she frowned and said, “But Ermice is low on health and can be struck out. FORTASMA! Metronome!” Fortasma waved its arms again preparing for an attack. Kenni waited for its random attack. It stopped, and shot a Swift attack. Kenni ordered Ermice to dodge, but the POKéMON could not dodge Swift. Ermice became pelted with Swift and finally fainted. “Ermice is unable to battle,” Shari announced, “Fortasma wins!” Returning Ermice to its POKéBall, Kenni brought out his last POKéMON, Clovine. He ordered Clovine to attack with Razor Leaf. Clovine fired a Razor Leaf at Fortasma, causing it damage. Wendy sensed that Fortasma was tiring out, and ordered it to muster up every bit to strength it had to unleash its most powerful attack---Psychic. Fortasma began to glow in a bright purple and charged up power. Kenni ordered Clovine to charged for a Solarbeam. Clovine charged up power for a Solarbeam. Fortasma, fully charged, unleashed a powerful Psychic blast. Clovine, fully charged, unleashed a forceful Solarbeam. The Solarbeam managed to quash Fortasma’s Psychic, and Fortasma was hit by a Solarbeam and was knocked out. “Fortasma is unable to battle,” Shari announced, “Clovine wins! The victory goes to Trainer Kenni!”

“Congrats, my friend. Here is your Phantom Badge. You will see me again at the next town you and Shari go to…”

Leaving the gym along with Shari, Kenni felt a chill up his spine. Wendy was as scary as Shari! She really creeped him out, the way she seemed to know everything that was going to happen. Well…on the side, she did say she was a psychic. But…wait a minute… Kenni suddenly remembered something that he wanted to ask Wendy. He stopped and turned toward the gym. “What is it?” Shari asked. “I want to know,” Kenni replied, “how she got her psychic powers…” “Ask her when we see her again!,” Shari suggested. “She’s kinda creepy,” Kenni said. “I mean, she knew our names, she knew that Ermice was low on energy and---” “Her eyes,” Shari muttered, “Her eyes are empty. Cold. Staring. Like she doesn’t have a soul.” Kenni shuddered. “Are you really afraid of her?” Shari asked. “Well,” Kenni replied, “She does tend to frighten me.” “Kenni’s afraid of Wendy!” Shari teased, “Kenni’s afraid of Wendy!” Kenni glared at Shari. “Quit it,” he pleaded, “Even you thought she was creepy.” Shari sneered at him. Kenni grumbled. Spotting a POKéMON Center up ahead, he quickened his pace, with Shari following and they both went inside.

“Yo! Wake up, dude!”

Kenni opened his eyes drowsily. It was obvious he dozed off. Shari was standing over him looking down at him as if something bad had happened. Kenni noticed her anxiety. “What is it?” he asked. “Are you alright?” Shari asked him. Kenni was annoyed that Shari had ask that weird question. Of course he was alright. “Of course I’m alright,” Kenni replied, “Why wouldn‘t I be?” Shari looked worried again. “Well,” she began, “You just collapsed when you sat down. I got a bit worried that our journey has tired you out.” Kenni knew where this was headed. “You’re saying we should slow down and take a break?” he asked with a smile. Shari shook her head. “Sure, I can go with that!” Kenni agreed. Shari was filled with glee. She took Kenni’s hand and they raced toward the door. Upon opening it, the came across two men. They wore cloaks similar to Team Dark‘s, but their cloaks were white, not purple, and instead of a “D” on the hoods, there was an “L”. It didn’t take Kenni long to realize who these people were.

“TEAM LIGHT!!!”

The men seemed to smile. They took off their hoods to reveal their beaming faces. “What are you two so happy about?” Shari asked smugly. “You guys finally beat Team Dark or something?” The men looked at each other in awe. One of them asked, “So you know about their rivalry?” Shari nodded. “We hate those guys just as much as you do. They just want to use the elemental POKéMON to obtain some kind of power.” The men nodded. “You have helped us greatly,” they replied, “Team Dark want to use the Elemental POKéMON to awaken the one legendary POKéMON capable to spreading darkness. But we will resurrect the legendary POKéMON capable of spreading light. We must thwart their evil plans! Once they are out of the way, we can rule!” “HUH??” Kenni and Shari were awestruck. “What was that??” Kenni asked. “Don’t worry, kid,” they said to him, “It’s simple. Team Dark are evil. When we get rid of them, we will be heroes. Then the people will elect our leader as the monarch of Entec. Just Entec. We are not out for evil purposes. Why do you think we call ourselves Team Light?” This was a bit weird to both Kenni and Shari. They immediately didn’t like these two after that, let alone Team Light anymore. Sure, they were thwarting Team Dark, but it was just for the rule of the Entec region! Did they REALLY care?

Aove all else, when someone else speaks, start a new paragraph. I noticed a few flaws. What does a Ferrenine look like, or a Colvut. Description is your friend. Just saying it's a ferret or that its a dog will do very little for me or anyone else who reads, considering that these are fanmade pokemon.

I am a fan of created pokemon and regions, but they need to be described so I can visualize the creature in my head. A good idea is to describe that which you see in your head on the paper, but try not make it sound like a list.

I'm gonna recommend you go to the advise for aspiring authors thread or the rules thread to give yourself a boost in the right direction. Don't give up, but do take a read at those threads.

Are you even listening to anything anyone says?

Okay, so you got a new region and Pokemon? Execpt I am confused, what do all the Pokemon look like? How did they feel when they were battling? What do the characters look like?

And don't forgot to double space everytime someone speaks. I suggest you read the Author's cafe, and read Advice for Aspiring Authors...

Thanks. I'll answer your question:

1. Some of the Pokemon are a bit difficult to describe depending on how I imagined them. It's mostly up to the reader's imagination. Unless i was writing a comic, these Pokemon will be a bit difficult to visualize.

2. I usually point out the Trainer's state of mind during battles.

3. I will try to elaborate on how the characters look like, but for now, I'm taking a break. Expect more either this month or next month. And I shall try harder!

Hm, really? Pokemon can't be that hard to virtualize. Right now all I'm imagining of a Clovut is the grass Shinou starter..

Giving the reraders imagination full care of the pokemon's image is..well, just ok. I mean, you can't really imagine up much from the stuff you told us about him. It's not as hard as it seems. Draw out like a doodle on a scrap of paper and just describe that. Like this;

Clovut.

Clovut is a rather small pokemon standing on all fours, its hooves still minute at it's oung age and around the shape of a small stub. Its shaded a dazzling, wintergreen, and bears a ravishing carpet of serene bluegrass atop its hide, usually flowing in the wind and a pact of blades falling out, thoough always regrowing. It's head is a dense circle covered up by an almost scarf and turban of autoumn leaves shrouding his scalp, only his peering, midnight blue eyes glancing through the alotted armor of leaves wit are suprisingly as hard as steel. Its curved crescent back, and compact figure gives it some quick bursts of speed, but the scarf/turban of iron leaves stop it from realizing it's true tracking potential. Some people say if one trainer could remove those garmets, they could unleash the fastest pokemon in the world.

Don't use the 'leave it up to you guys' excuse for not using description, It's what makes any good fic. Describing something requires for you to have a clear image of what it is. It may not come to you instantly, but if you create it bit by bit, it becomes a great pokemon. If you can't tell us what it is, that's telling us your just randomly pickin names out of a hat and expecting us to tell you what they are. Very, very bad.

Pokemon descriptions are like imagining them in a detailed pokedex. They give an enticing description, and follow up with a little random fact or two about the pokemon as a species. It enchances what the reader sees. They must see that battle between Fernine and Clovut, and imagine all the tense action being aroused as they view it like a movie in there minds. The proffeser dangling in horrible fright, fearing immense wounds, or even pehaps death. We must know these things, or else we can only imagine the battle in lackluster by our own imagnation, a clear sign the author is either too lazy to describe, or is simply a boggart who dosen't know what an adjective is.

See in my example how I started from the ground up. I described his feet, thought what shape they should be, thought what color this pokemon is, what body structure is it, any leaves on it, fur, eyes, what color, horns, anything you can think of. A new pokemon is a canvas just waiting for your miraculous imagination to design its soul. And also, at the end I gave a tiny fact about how they are very fast, and a legend about there speed. This gives them complexity, and a feirce show a t describing personalities.

But truly, the worst part of your descriptions is that there is none!! That's horrible! You expect us to figue out an image with no words describing it and just a name alone!? Do atleast a litttle bit on your part man! If you just said it was a pokemon with leaves all over its body like a small shelled creature about the size of a small boombox with a long body would be better than what you DIDN'T give us. Honestly, fix it. Either do descriptions or your fic won't last long. It only makes your story all the more dull from your cookie-cutter plot and predictable characters(cept for Shari..). I's not that hard to find alist of adjectives on the net. If not anything else Denjuu, please try.

Ok, so far I'm not impressed. You've got alot of generic elements within your plot, and the edging Mary-Sue character is repelling me away. Everything your writing about has ben done before, except your putting it in a new region, with new people and pokemon. Try something different with this, like on the way to a town have a Girafig steal your pokeballs and while Kennis in despair, Shari goes to save them upon a high moutain almost riskking her life exinhiting hr tough, yet loving personality. Anything to help make your highly generic story different.

But really, above all else improve your descripting abilities. I must imagine the Shinou Grass starter as a clovet instead of your custom one. I must see something that already exists to see your custom poke, for I don't know what your image of it is. Right now, you might aswell be smacking on new names onto existing pokemon. Hurry, and shape up.

So far..not much to say. If you keep goin on with your usual plot, I don't see alot of potential. Experiment with other adventures a pokemon trainer would face other than battling a gym leader. Pokemons such a wide variety of ideas, your bound to find an awesome subplot or event to go with your oncoming badge hunt.

Ok, delete that before Sandra closes this. A fanfic must be atleast 3 pages, and that is not. Do not post 'part' of a chapter. Either post it all or nothing. This is clearly against the rules, it does not portay any kind of climax or excitement, just that you are too lazy to improve your writing skills, and are just rushing to get it done.
